    In 2018 we will witness 13 ashhur -full moons
    2 in Jan,
    none in Feb,
    2 in March,
    and 1 in each of the remaining 9 calendar months.

    4 of the 13 full moons are sacred
    or rather forbiddden as fighting is forbidden in them (92),
    and as fighting will start again when they are over (95).

    One of the 4 full moons is the time when the Great Pilgrimage was performed (93),
    so DhulHijjah is a forbidden full moon.

    Accordingly, the 4 forbidden full moons are

    1. Shahr Ramadan (scorching, time of fasting)
    2. Shahr DhulHijjah (muslim pilgrimage)
      3.Shahr Rajab (respect for peace)
      4.Sahr DhulKaadah (sitting in peace)

    In 2018
    they are

    28 June
    27 July
    26 August
    25 September.

      The longest daytime is familiar to us all.

      When we observe the longest daytime,
      we know that soon afterwards the scorching ful moon (shahr ramadan) will rise,
      which is the first forbidden full moon.

        peace, it depends on which hemisphere north/south therefore it's mirrored see prior post.

          It would be great if you explained it to me.

          I can understand that we can observe when the longest daytime is. It's in summer somewhere, if i am correct. In winter we have the smallest daytime if i am correct.

          But where does the Quran say that Ramadan begins when the longest day is at hand?

            We also know that the whole context of chapter 9... is about fighting the idolaters who broke their treaty. A sign in verse 981 indicates that the time of a particularly big fight that the hypocrites were fearful from was a hot time of the year. Shortly afterwards, 986 talks about a chapter descending at that time and from 2185 we know that "shahr ramadhan" is when the great reading was descended so that provides an additional link between "shahr ramadhan" and "al-shahr al-haram". Hence, circumstantial evidence from the great reading supports that "al-shahr al-haram"/"shahr ramadhan" is a hot time of the year and confirms the dictionary's meaning.

              I don't have much knowledge on this subject.

              But what do you think about the calendar the majority uses now? Ramadan keeps coming in a different period of the time. Sometimes we fast in winter, and sometimes in summer.

                The calendar the majority uses now is based on the 365-day solar year
                and that is what the word sanah (year) stands for in the Quran.

                Ramadan keeps coming 11 days EARLIER than the former
                because it is not real ramadan, it is false ramadan.
                The real ramadan up in the sky comes 19 days LATER after the 13th full moon.

                The real ramadan is fixed in its time in terms of season;
                that is, it always comes in the beginning of hot summer.
                That was probably why it was given the name shahr ramadan - scorching full moon.

                    Lunar month (represented by waxing crescent, full moon, waning crescent, etc) is one thing,
                    calendar month is another;
                    they are not similar let alone the same.

                    Lunar months (e,g. full moons) are created by God, they are up in the sky, and each one of them represents 29.5 days
                    but calendar months are man-made, they are ON PAPER called calendar, and they change in length from 29 to 31 days.

                    You had better not mix them up.

                    SANAH (year) according to the Quran is the time that the earth takes to rotate once around the sun;
                    there are sometimes 12 lunar moths (e,g 12 full moons) in it, sometimes 13, like in this year of 2018.

                    Lunar months (e,g full moons) do not make the year,
                    they make the series of full moons ( in 936).

                        Jews do not follow the pure lunar year,
                        they folow a luni-solar year

                        Since the sum of 12 lunar months is about 11 days shorter than a solar year, a leap month is added every 2 to 3 years, or 7 times in a 19-year cycle. Leap months are meant to keep the calendar in step with the astronomical seasons and make sure that the religious observances occur at the correct time of year, as mentioned in the Torah. (https//www.timeanddate.com/calendar/jewish-calendar.html)

                        As for the Arabs, they do follow the pure lunar year in our time
                        but that lunar year does not have a sense of time because it does not have seasons,
                        so the Arabs cannot answer "According to the lunar year what season was I born?"

                        The only year system which Allah approves of is the solar year. The Quran provides proofs of this, one of which is 105*.

                        God is the one who? determined phases for the moon
                        so that you may know the number of the years (&#1614.

                        One of the phases of the moon is the full moon.

                        Here are the times of the 33 hot full moons (the full moons right after the longest daytime) from 2001 to 2033. If you count them you will know the number of the solar years as Allah says in 105, but you will never know the number of the so-called lunar years.

                          How is that verse talking about a solar calendar? Isn't that verse talking about a lunar calendar?

                          I don't understand it.

                          You used a formula to find out when the full moons will be. Can't that formula be used in a lunar calendar type?

                          Can you take your time if that what you say is really true. I don't have any knowledge about basic science. So i am willing to be patience, if it makes sense.
