    Salaamun alaikum,

The word 'Allah' is central concept in al-quraan (try building a conceptual map and you will see). The word 'god' can be modified in several ways but not the word 'Allah'. Al-quraan uses it and roots in a context thus giving an explanation.

      Salam,

It may be the same reason you started your post with "Salam" -- Allah is a common word in the English language, most everyone knows what it means, just like Salam. Whatever negative connotations are applied to the word by a person who hears it are (hopefully) not intended.

If you believe Allah is God and vice versa, there should be no problem with using either word. Along with salam, Koran/Quran, these are all commonly understood, and especially so among Muslims.

            Peace "phoenix1",

why is the term "allah" confusing?
and why does the language matter, anyway?

JK- The term is confusing to those who dont know Arabic. This is an English forum and the language used should be English. GOD Bless!

              Peace

I disagree that one should make the transition from Allah to God because people may accuse us of being terrorists. I do agree that the transition should be made however since this is an english forum.

              Joe

              JK- Agreed! GOD Bless!

JK- You should know that the Arabic Bible also uses the term "Allah" which is translated from "elyhim" and in English "God" or "GOD". The term "GOD" with all caps or even "God" cannot be modified. It is the one with small "g" that can be. GOD Bless!

                  Peace "Leena"

                  Salam,

It may be the same reason you started your post with "Salam"

JK- Thankyou for reminding me. That was actually a habit which im letting go off from now. From now on i shall use the term "peace".

-- Allah is a common word in the English language, most everyone knows what it means, just like Salam. Whatever negative connotations are applied to the word by a person who hears it are (hopefully) not intended.

JK- It's not only the -ve connotations. We are making the term "Allah" into a proper noun thus giving the impression that we have a personal god which is false. We should use the appropriate term for GOD in the language which we are speaking.

If you believe Allah is God and vice versa, there should be no problem with using either word. Along with salam, Koran/Quran, these are all commonly understood, and especially so among Muslims.

JK- It doesnt matter what i believe or not as ive stated above. As for the word "Quran" that i believe is different since here we are talking about the name of a book. We have to refer to a particular book somehow and Quran is the usual way. Other alternatives may be suggested though. GOD Bless!

                    Hi all,

I've noticed that many who claim to believe in Quran Alone on this forum still use the Arabic term "Allah" instead of "GOD" whilst debating or writing a post in English. I dont understand this. Why do you insist on using an Arabic term which confuses many of the people and leads the vast majority of the west to the conclusion that we too are fundamental hadith "islamics" and terrorists? I suggest you refrain from doing so and use the English term "GOD".

First, Personally speaking, I wont call myself 'Quran alone'. I am a muslim who believes in one God.

Second, I do tend to use the word ''Allah'', to refer to God, when I speak to fellow muslims in any language (who would know what Allah means).
And when I converse with nonmuslims, I use the word ''God''.

I dont think using the word ''Allah'' would mean we are either hadeeth believers or terrorists. There is no reasoning to that. Those are seperate actions which some people do, and which in reality has nothing to do with ''Allah''.

                    Peace!

I agree. There is no 'this is what u should do' to it. Its a personal choice.

I wonder why you used the greeting Salam at the start of your comment?

                                Peace be upon you,

There is no compulsion in the God's order.

I do however truly believe that when speaking a certain language that you should translate all words. From my own personal experience, when I started to translate everything, I gained vast understanding.

Also, make sure the words that are already translated by traditional "scholars" is correct, like the term "angel" which has no place in this message.

In conclusion, there is no compulsion, just expressing how much it has helped me.

Strange to see you even bring this up. I'm using the word Allah because to me, the word 'god' is rootless. It has no context. The word Allah is the central word in the discourse of al-quraan and therefore is fully-explained. The bible doesn't have this self-awareness.

                                      Peace be upon you,

since you brought it up, what do you think "no compulsion means?"

It means "absence of energy". It means we have the FREEDOM to choose, the FREEDOM to ignore any impulse or force to move in a certain direction.

For example, one is standing at a crossroad deciding to go left or right, then someone comes up and pushes you to the left, that was compulsion, and that is what emotions do. That was not choice.

SO to make a long answer short, we are free to choose our own way, but it benefits us to choose the way that is in line with the Divine Plan.

Agreed. When you choose Al-Islaam, you are choosing to attain salaam. The way you choose Islam is to purify your deen solely for Allah (mukhliseena lahu ad-deen).
