I like mquran's explanation. If it is correct "arabically" then I think that's the correct one.
and Saladin, the quran isn't the only peace of knowledge we have. there are many things in the quran we wouldn't understand if our mindset wasn't correct and if we didn't have enough knowledge. There is nothing wrong with using outside sources to understand the quran as long as the information is verified and the interpretation makes sense and goes along with the rest of the quran.

The Quran says that children are to take the name of their fathers. So the Children of Israel are that if their fathers are considered children of Israel.
Secondly, the Quran tells them to follow the Torah, if I am not mistake, as well as those who call themselves Jews, being descendents of the tribe of Judah and also a branch of the children of Israel. The Torah is actually not the whole bible it is the teachings of Moses to be found in the actual words of Moses where the bible says 'Moses said or Moses spoke' that is the real Torah. I've highlighted all these instances in the Bible and I plan on publishing them on my page www.houseofabraham.net. As well the Gospel is really the teachings of Jesus and to be found in Jesus actual words you can find them at http//www.thewords.com/english/index.htm this is the Gospel.The Quran tells them to follow the Quran and to follow Moses' teachings. It also says that God gave each community certain rites. There rites are very few as it concerns what Moses has to say and they should accept the Gospel of Jesus God bless him and the Quran to complete their faith and make it right. However, the law of Moses is for Isreal, it is says 'Hear O Israel.' As long as someone can claim that their father was a descendent of the tribe of Israel then they are a child of Israel and are to uphold the laws in the teachings of Moses and Jesus and Muhammad. If a Israelite woman marries a non-Israelite man then he child is no longer a child of Israel, according to the Quran because he takes his fathers name.

The children of Israel weren't Muslim either?
Please don't make up your own definitions for this word. Despite what you have been taught the Quran doesn't explain the word Muslim.

Yes, because muslim is attributed to community of men who obey to Allah's law (deen). Shall men claim to be Muhammad's follower but not establish Allah's law are not moslem.The children of Israel weren't Muslim either?

I believe we discussed this before and I showed you many times that the noun Muslim was expressed as a verb Aslam many times in the Quran,
so I may ask you, can you please explain to me what Muslim means
also as far as I believe the Quran directly or indirectly told us that these prophets you mentioned were Muslims as an adjective

Aslama to the pre-Islamic Arab didn't mean 'to become Muslim' and Muslimun to the Pre-Islamic Arab didn't mean Muslim. It meant 'submissive, early payer, quitter, etc.' and every one of the implications that the fourth Arabic form can have in relation to the first form of the word. What Muslim means to us now is not what it meant to the jahilee Arab and the Quran only means it in the way the jahilee Arab would have understood it.
As for what it means now, what it means now is not what it meant to the Pre-Islamic Arab (as I said above), and what it means to the person who calls himself Muslim now is not what he will translate it as in any other language, and it is not how he would literally interpret it. There are alot of interpretations of the word nowadays and the most poplular one is Shafee'i's interpretation which is 'submissive to God.' But this is an interpretation not a meaning and it is not how Muslims really use the word. Muslims don't call all of those Jews, Christians or "pagans" Muslims who don't follow the Quran or believe that Muhammad was his messenger. Using Shafee'i's interpretation it is even possible for a Jew or a Christian or a Pagan to deny the Quran and still be considered Muslim. Well we all know that that is absurd and no one, not even any Muslim would consider that someone who denies the Quran and Muhammad even has the right to call themselves Muslim. But if it means submissive to God, they would have that right. But we all know that what it really means today is someone who accepts the Quran as from God and Muhammad as a messenger and prophet of God. (Godblesshim). That's not what it means in Jahilee Arabic, and therefore is not what it means in the context of the Quran, but the Muslim is deluded about the meaning of the word Islam, Aslama and Muslim in so many ways.

You have to translate the word 'muslim' into Engish, but first you have to know what the word means in Pre-Islamic Arabic and then understand that it only means that in the context of the Quran. It's good you quoted the Quran but now we have address the issue of your understanding of the Arabic.

What did the word Aslam and Muslim "exactly" mean to the Arabs at that time ?
The muslim terms will never change, i.e. one or averything who abide to Allah deen (QS.3/83). Allah deen never changes (QS.30/30)

To submit, to quite, to pay early, to make safe, to salute or greet. ( and a few others that I have to look up. It also has other meanings based on the Arabic form that it is in). But this word had nothing to do with God.

- To follow deen of Ibrahim
- To make his prayer, devotion, life and death only for Allah's deen.
- Make no partner (in law, kingdom and devotion) to Allah.
