Are these all the verses having to do with salat? I've been trying to piece together anything from the Holy Quran that has to do with salat, If im missing any at all please post them.

23 Those who believe in the unseen, and uphold the communion,
and from Our provisions to them they spend.
243 And uphold the communion, and contribute towards betterment,
and kneel with those who kneel.
245 And seek help through patience, and through the communion. It
is a difficult thing, but not so for the humble.
283 And We took the covenant of the Children of Israel ?You shall
not serve except God, and regard your parents, and regard the relatives,
and orphans, and needy, and say kind things to the people, and uphold the
communion, and contribute towards betterment.? But then you turned
away, except a few of you; you were objecting.
    2110 And uphold the communion, and contribute towards betterment;
and what you bring forth of good for your souls you will find it with God.
God is watching what you do.
2125 And We have made the Dwelling to be a model for the people
and a security. And you shall take from the situation of Abraham for
communion. And We had entrusted to Abraham and Ishmael ?You shall
purify My Dwelling for those who visit, and those who are devoted, and
    the kneeling, the prostrating.?
2153 O you who believe, seek help through patience and through the
communion, God is with the patient ones.
2157 For those there will be communions from their Lord and a mercy,
    they are the guided ones.
2177 Piety is not to turn your faces towards the east and the west, but piety
is one who believes in God and the Last Day, and the angels, and the Scripture,
and the prophets, and who gives money out of love to the relatives, and the
orphans, and the needy, and the wayfarer, and those who ask, and to free the slaves; and who upholds the communion, and who contributes towards betterment; as well as those who keep their pledges when they make a pledge, and those who are patient in the face of good and bad and when in despair.
These are the ones who have been truthful, and they are the righteous.
2238 Maintain the communions; and a balanced communion; and
    stand dutiful for God.
2277 Those who believe and do good works, and uphold the communion,
and contribute towards betterment; they will have their rewards with
their Lord and there is no fear over them nor will they grieve.
339 The angels called to him whilst he was standing, communing, in
the temple enclosure ?God gives you good tidings of John, authenticating
the word from God, and a master, and steadfast, and a prophet from the
    upright.?
443 O you who believe, do not approach the communion while you
are intoxicated, until you know what you are saying. Nor if you have
had intercourse, unless traveling, until you bathe. And if you are ill, or
traveling, or one of you has excreted feces, or you had sexual contact with
the women, and could not find water, then you shall select from the clean
soil; you shall wipe your faces and hands. God is Pardoning, Forgiving.
477 Did you not see those who were told ?Restrain yourselves, and uphold the communion, and contribute towards betterment.? But when fighting was decreed for them, a group of them feared the people as much as they feared God or even more so. And they said ?Our Lord, why did
You decree fighting for us? If only You would delay for us till another
time.? Say ?The enjoyment of this world is little, and the Hereafter is far
better for those who are aware; you will not be wronged in the least.?
4101 And if you go forth in the land, then there is no harm that you
shorten from the communion, if you fear that the disbelievers will try
you. The disbelievers are to you a clear enemy.
4102 And if you are with them and you hold the communion for
them, then let a group from amongst them stand with you and let them
bring their weapons; and when they have prostrated then let them stand
guard from behind; and let a group who has not yet communed come
and commune with you, and let them be wary and let them bring their
weapons with them. The rejecters hope that you would neglect your
weapons and goods so they can come upon you in one blow. There is no
sin upon you if you are impeded by rainfall, or if you are ill, that you place
down your weapons. And be wary. God has prepared for the rejecters a
    humiliating retribution.
4103 So, when you are done making the communion, then remember
God while standing, or sitting, or on your sides. So, when you are relieved,
then uphold the communion. Indeed, the communion for the believers
    becomes a timed schedule.
    4142 The hypocrites seek to deceive God, while He is deceiving them;
and if they stand to make the communion, they do so lazily, only to show
the people; they do not remember God except very little.
4162 But those of them who are firm in knowledge, as well as the
believers, they believe in what was sent down to you and what was sent
down before you; and those who uphold the communion, and those who
contribute towards betterment, and those who believe in God and the
Last Day; to these We will give them their reward greatly.
56 O you who believe, if you rise to hold the communion, then wash
your faces and your hands up to the elbows, and wipe your heads and your feet to the ankles; and if you have had intercourse, then you shall bathe. And if you are ill, or traveling, or you have excreted feces, or you have had sexual contact with the women, and you cannot not find water,
then you shall select from the clean soil; you shall wipe your faces and
your hands with it. God does not want to place any hardship on you, but
He wants to cleanse you and to complete His blessings upon you that you
    may be appreciative.
512 God has taken the covenant of the Children of Israel and raised from
them twelve representatives, and God said ?I am with you if you uphold
the communion, and contribute towards betterment, and believe in My
messengers, and support them, and give God a loan of righteousness; then I
will cancel your sins and admit you into estates with rivers flowing beneath.?
Whoever rejects after this from you, then he has strayed from the path.
555 For your supporter is God and His messenger and those who
believe; they uphold the communion, and contribute towards betterment
    while yielding.
558 And if you call to the communion, they take it as fun and games.
That is because they are a people who do not understand.
591 The devil only wants to cause strife between you through
intoxicants and gambling, and to repel you away from remembering God
and from the communion. Will you be deterred?
5106 O you who believe, witnessing a will if death is approaching one
of you shall be done by two who are just amongst you. Or, if you have gone
    forth in the land, then two others may suffice if death is approaching you;
you will hold them after making the communion, and they will swear by
God if you have doubt ?We will not purchase with it any price, even if he
was a near relative, and we will not conceal the testimony of God, or else
we are then of the sinners.?
672 And you shall uphold the communion, and be aware; and to Him
    you will be gathered.
692 And this is a Scripture which We have sent down, blessed,
authenticating what is present with him, and that you may warn the
capital of the towns and those around it. And those who believe in the
Hereafter believe in it, and they are dedicated to their communion.
6162 Say ?My communion, and my rites, and my life, and my death,
are all to God the Lord of the worlds.?
7170 As for those who adhere to the Scripture, and they uphold the
communion; We will not waste the reward of the righteous.
83 They uphold the communion, and from Our provisions to them
    they spend.
835 And their communion at the Dwelling was nothing but noise and
aversion. Taste the retribution for what you have rejected.
95 So when the restricted months have passed, then you may kill
those who have set up partners wherever you find them, and take them,
and surround them, and stand against them at every point. If they repent,
and uphold the communion, and contribute towards betterment, then
you shall leave them alone. God is Forgiving, Merciful.
911 If they repent, and they uphold the communion, and they
contribute towards betterment, then they are your brothers in the system.
We explain the revelations for a people who know.
918 Rather, the temples of God are maintained by he who believes in
God and the Last Day, and he upholds the communion, and he contributes
towards betterment, and he does not fear except God. It is these that will
    be of the guided ones.
954 And what prevented what they would spend from being accepted
from them except that they rejected God and His messenger, and they do
not attend the communion except lazily, and they do not spend except
    unwillingly.
971 And the believing men and women, they are allies to one another.
They order good and deter from evil, and they uphold the communion,
and they contribute towards betterment and they obey God and His
messenger. God will have mercy on them; God is Noble, Wise.
984 And do not commune over any of them who have died, nor stand
at their grave. They have rejected God and His messenger and died while
    they were wicked.
999 And from the Nomads are those who believe in God and the Last
Day, and he looks upon what he spends to make him closer to God, and
the communions of the messenger. It indeed makes them closer. God will
admit them in His mercy; God is Forgiving, Merciful.
9103 Take from their money a charity to purify them and develop them
with it, and commune over them; for your communion is a tranquility for
them; and God is Hearer, Knowledgeable.
1087 And We inspired to Moses and his brother ?Let your people
leave their homes in Egypt, and let these homes be your focal point, and
hold the communion. And give good news to the believers.?
1187 They said ?O Shu?ayb, does your communion order you that we
leave what our fathers served, or that we do not do with our money as we
please? You are the compassionate, the sane!?
11114 And you shall hold the communion at the two edges of the day,
during the near parts of the night. The good deeds take away the bad.
This is a reminder to those who remember.
1322 And those who are patient seeking their Lord?s direction; and
they uphold the communion, and they spend from what We bestowed
upon them secretly and openly, and they counter sin with good; these will
    have an excellent abode.
1431 Say to My servants who believe, that they should uphold the
communion, and spend from what provisions We granted them secretly
and publicly, before a Day comes when there is no trade therein, nor will
    there be any friends.
1437 ?Our Lord, I have resided part of my progeny in an uncultivated
valley near your Sacred Dwelling. My Lord, so that they may uphold the
communion. So let the hearts of the people incline towards them and give
provisions to them of the fruits that they may give thanks.?
1440 ?My Lord, let me uphold the communion, and also from my
progeny. Our Lord, accept my prayer.?
1778 You shall hold the communion at the setting of the sun until the
darkness of the night; and the Qur?an at dawn; the Qur?an at dawn is
    witnessed.
17110 Say ?Call on God or call on the Almighty; by whichever you call
on, to Him are the best names.? And do not be too loud in making your
communion, nor too quiet; but seek a path in between.
1931 ?And He made me blessed wherever I was, and He charged me
with the communion and towards betterment as long as I am alive.?
1955 And he used to instruct his family with the communion and
towards betterment, and his Lord was pleased with him.
1959 Then generations came after them who lost the communion, and
followed desires. They will find their consequences.
2014 ?I am God, there is no god but Me, so serve Me and hold the
    communion for My remembrance.?
20132 And instruct your family with the communion, and be patient for
it. We do not ask you for provision, for We provide for you. And the good
    end is for the righteous.
2173 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and
We inspired them to do good work and uphold the communion and
contribute towards betterment, and they were in service to Us.
2235 Those who, when God is mentioned, their hearts revere, and they
are patient to what befalls them, and they uphold the communion, and
from what We provide them they spend.
2240 The ones who were driven out of their homes without justice,
except that they said ?Our Lord is God!? And if it were not for God
defending the people against themselves, then many places of gathering,
and markets, and communions, and temples where the name of God is
frequently mentioned, would have been destroyed. God will give victory
to those who support Him. God is Powerful, Noble.
2241 Those whom if We allow them authority in the land, they uphold
the communion, and they contribute towards betterment, and deter from
evil. And to God is the conclusion of all matters.
2278 And strive in the cause of God its truly deserved striving. He is
the One who has chosen you, and He has made no hardship for you in
the system, the creed of your father Abraham; He is the One who named
you ?those who have submitted? from before as well as in this. So let the
messenger be witness over you and you be witness over the people. So
uphold the communion and contribute towards betterment and hold
tight to God, He is your patron. What an excellent Patron, and what an
    excellent Supporter.
232 Those who are humble when making their communion.
239 And those who maintain their communions.
2437 Men who are not distracted by trade or sale from the remembrance
of God and holding the communion, and contributing towards betterment.
They fear a Day when the hearts and sight will be overturned.
2441 Do you not see that everything in the heavens and the Earth
glorifies God? Even the birds in formation, each knows its communion
and its glorification. And God is fully aware of everything they do.
2456 And uphold the communion and contribute towards betterment,
and obey the messenger, that you may attain mercy.
2458 O you who believe, let those who are committed to you by oath,
and those who have not yet attained puberty, request your permission
regarding three times before the dawn communion, and when you put
off your attire from the noon time, and after the evening communion.
These are three private times for you. Other than these times, it is not
wrong for you or them to intermingle with one another. God thus clarifies
the revelations for you. And God is Knowledgeable, Wise.
273 Those who uphold the communion, and contribute towards
betterment, and regarding the Hereafter they are certain.
2945 Recite what is inspired to you of the Scripture, and hold the
communion, for the communion prohibits evil and vice; but certainly
the remembrance of God is the greatest. God knows everything you do.
3031 Turn to Him, and be aware of Him, and uphold the communion,
and do not be of those who set up partners.
314 Those who uphold the communion, and contribute towards
betterment and regarding the Hereafter they are certain.
3117 ?O my son, hold the communion and advocate righteousness and
forbid evil, and bear with patience whatever befalls you. These are the
    most honorable traits.?
3333 You shall settle down in your homes, and do not go about like in
the old days of ignorance. You shall hold the communion, and contribute
towards betterment, and obey God and His messenger. God wishes to
remove any affliction from you, O people of the Dwelling, and to purify
    you completely.
3343 He is the One who communes over you, along with His angels, to
lead you out of darkness into the light. And He is ever Merciful towards
    the believers.
3356 God and His angels commune upon the prophet. O you who
believe, you shall commune uopn him, and comply completely.
3518 And none can carry the load of another, and even if it calls on
another to bear part of its load, no other can carry any part of it, even
if they were related. You will only be able to warn those who fear their
Lord while unseen, and they uphold the communion. And whoever
contributes, is contributing for himself. And to God is the final destiny.
3529 Surely, those who recite God?s Scripture, and uphold the
communion, and spend secretly and openly from what We have provided
them, they are seeking a trade that can never lose.
4238 And those who have responded to their Lord, and they uphold
the communion, and their affairs are conducted by mutual consultation
among themselves, and from Our provisions to them they give.
5813 Are you reluctant to offer a charity before such meeting? If you
cannot do such, and God has forgiven you; then you shall uphold the
communion, and contribute towards betterment, and obey God and His
messenger. God is fully Aware of everything you do.
629 O you who believe, if the communion is called to on the day of
assembly, then you shall hasten towards the remembrance of God, and
cease all selling. This is better for you, if you only knew.
6210 Then, once the communion is complete, you shall disperse through
the land and seek God?s provisions, and remember God frequently that
    you may succeed.
7022 Except for those who commune.
7023 Who are steadfast to their communion.
7034 And those who are constant to their communion.
7320 Your Lord knows that you rise a little less than two thirds of the night,
and half of it, and one third of it, as well as a group of those who
are with you. And God measures the night and the day. He knows that
you will not be able to keep-up, so He pardons you. So read what is made
easy of the Qur?an. He knows that there will be sick among you, and
others that go forth in the land seeking from God?s bounty, and others
who are fighting in the cause of God, so read what you can of it. And
uphold the communion and contribute towards betterment and give God
a loan of righteousness. And whatever you put forth yourselves, you will
find it with God, for it is better and a greater reward. And seek God?s
forgiveness, for God is Forgiving, Merciful.
7443 They said ?We were not of those who communed.?
7531 For he did not believe nor commune.
8715 And remembers the name of his Lord, and communes.
    9610 A servant from communing?
985 And they were not commanded except to serve God and be loyal
to His system, monotheists, and uphold the communion and contribute
towards betterment. Such is the valuable system.
1074 So woe to those who commune,
1075 But to their communion they are absent minded.
1082 Therefore, you shall commune to your Lord and sacrifice.

            peace,

I recommend looking up the root saad-lam-waw here
            http//www.studyquran.co.uk/PRLonline.htm

Doing so, will lead one to finding every occurrence in The Quran, classical Arabic meanings and grammar info

= Sad-Lam-Waw = prayer, supplication, petition, oration, eulogy, benediction, commendation, blessing, honour, magnifiy, bring forth, follow closely, walk/follow behind closely, to remain attached.
In a horse race when the second horse follows the first one so closely that its head always overlaps the first horse?s body that horse is called AL-MUSSALLI (i.e. the one who follows closely / remains attached).
Central portion of the back, portion from where the tail of an animal comes out, the rump.

?Humble themselves consentingly? becomes ?bow and prostrate?
Posted on January 5, 2009 by Aidid Safar

The last phrase in 2125 is wa-roka?is-sujud, which means those who humble themselves consenting. The religionists have mangled the meaning here and say it means to physically bow and prostrate. It embroils a regimented body movement only worthy of pagan rituals.

Physical bowing and prostrating have become the critical components of the body movements in the Arab religion. Without these pantomimed movements their rituals will become redundant and useless. They believe the instruction of these body movements were ordained by God by virtue of 2125 and 2226.

For many centuries, non-Arabs who have mastered the Arabic language have allowed themselves to be subjugated by the religionists without verifying simple words by reference to other verses in the Reading. Having discovered this, I feel sorry for the Muslims who perform these silly body movements without verifying the correctness of their understanding from their own Book.

Since they are conditioned to believe that the word bayta in 2125 means the house, naturally, bayti-ya in the same verse must mean My house. Although they do not physically cleanse God?s house, they derive tremendous satisfaction by circumambulating the Cube. The Muslims were made to believe that the meaning of the passage in 2125 is

              Thor-hira Cleanse the house.

Thor-iffin Walk around the house (because they believe the religionists who say that the word Tho-iffin has the same meaning as the word Thawwaf. However, these two words are not the same).

              a?kiffin Retreat to a house.

wa-roka? is sujud Bow and prostrate physically to a house (since they also believe the word roka? is sujud is physical bowing and prostrating).

Since they proudly claim Islam abhors all images and icons, how can they not notice that the religious rites they faithfully observe are blatant idol-worship? Do they not devote their faith and bow and prostrate to a physical house?

              If their answer is no

              • Then why do they say it is ?God?s house??
              • Why do they use the expression baytul-lah which is not found in the Reading?

The truth is the innovators of the Arab religion have been very successful in deceiving people. They make their followers perform ridiculous body movements without telling them why. Yet they cannot even answer these simple questions!

No modern Arab or scholar of the Arab religion can provide intelligent answers to these basic questions

              • Is the stone house in Mecca God?s house or baytul-lah?
              • Why is God not inside His house - or is He?
              • Why do they have to bow and prostrate to the rocks carved by the Arab?
              • Are they prostrating to God or to the rocks?
              • Why do they walk around the house and in an anti-clockwise direction?
              • If they are prostrating to God and not the rock hunk, can we move the stone structure to Japan, Australia, Canada, Mexico or other countries?
              • Would their pilgrimage ritual and their five daily ritual prayers be nullified without making the rock hunk as their focal point.

Of course, the crux of the matter lies in simple logic. If they worship the house, they need to say that God is present in it. If that is the case - fine. However, if God does not live in the Cube, they are venerating the cube-idol. All they have to do is prove that God is in there.

If no sensible answer is forthcoming from the religionists themselves, why then should the Muslims continue to put their trust in the religionists? Perhaps they naively assume it is not harmful to follow the religionists blindly. The pertinent question is whether obeying such absurdity will save them from the Hell Fire? Is it worthwhile ignoring something so important by not verifying the correctness of its meaning by using one?s own common sense? According to the Reading ?the worst creatures at the sight of God are those who do not use their common sense?.

Is it not time yet for the sensible Muslims to come to their senses and seek forgiveness and mercy from their Lord while they still can? Is it so difficult for them to be sincere to Him alone in pursuing for His grace and pleasure? These are some of the fundamental questions the non-Arabs should consider seriously.

The religionists have, indeed, twisted the meaning of many words in the Reading to divert mankind from the path of God including wa-roka?is-sujud in 2125 which simply means those who humble themselves consentingly.

The message in 2125 is that Abraham was directed to the system and had diligently committed himself to devote and humble himself with consent to the will of God in the system. His son Ishmael was similarly committed, and both of them cleansed the system for throngs of people who are devoted and also those who humble1 themselves consentingly to the same system. Abraham and Ishmael were not devoting themselves to a physical house, neither have they circumambulated, or bow and prostrate physically to some rocks. Those who follow the footsteps of Abraham are not expected to bow or prostrate to anything. They should devote and humble themselves by consenting themselves to the same system by upholding their commitments to observe the deen prescribed by God. That is all that is meant.

There is no verse in the Reading that implies that roka?is-sujud carries the sense of physical bowing and prostrating.

1 Humble, humbling or humbled is derived from the word ruku?. Humble people feel they are not important or good enough to criticise others or to have much attention paid to them by other people. God told the children of Israel to be humble to accept His revelations. In 243 He said, ?war-ka?u-ma?al-ror-ke-en?

Hello, I am new to freeminds.
I have a question. Why does God say "Offer the salat in the manner He has taught you, which you knew not"? (Chapter2 verse 239-Yousuf's translation)
I don't the manner in which He taught us to offer salat.

I used to offer prayer as my parents taught me this (Sunni). Then it got repetitive and I did not feel close to God. At certain part of the act though, I would feel it was working, I felt close to GOD, felt at peace. I don't if that was what God was intending. I am confused about God's meaning about Salat and whether it is a form of prayer.

                Any comments/suggestions?
                Thanks

                    peace yara,

First of all, welcome to the forum.

Secondly, why do you try to base your following on only one translation? ALL translations are imperfect, and as a minimum whenever one has a question one should check at least several translations. Doing this simple step would have resolved your question.

Please utilise the tools at www.StudyQuran.org for example

The literal translation of M&S Ahmed for example is as follows

So if you feared, so walking or riding , so if you became safe/secure , so mention/remember God, as He taught you what you were not knowing.

                      Salam

Every translation is one's individual understanding based on his own reasoning; so every one has to read with his own perception in the good sense. Never take into consideration at all anybody's translation which is not at all feasible to you for the practice. Your own natural understanding shall befit your nature. Thus practicing Islam becomes natural without force.

Salat means pondering every ayat in the direction of Allah 62 9 that it strengthens one's own Iman 9 123 every time an ayat is recited. The understanding gained on account of such salat makes you go for His Bountiful Grace 62 10 rather than race for money.

                      .

                        Peace,

In order for 'salaat' to be non-physical, it means other aspects concerning salaat are also presumed to be non-physical, right? So, what about wudhu - is this a physical act? Based on the Reading, YES, it is a physical act of cleansing oneself before the salaat observance... So, why would you have to physically cleanse yourself (wudhu) before committing a non-physical action (salaat)? Does this make sense? What is wudhu preparation for doing?

Also, the condition of "bow and prostrate" could be determined to be 'humble themselves consentingly' ONLY IF THEY ARE CONJOINED. According to the Reading, they're not conjoined, and the scriptures mention bowing without prostrating, as well as prostrating without bowing. This means they have separate meanings and designations. In other words, "bowing" is one action, and "prostrating" is a different action, whether you want to consider them physical or not. If you can bow without prostrating (or prostrate without bowing), then these two concepts can't be conjoined... So, for those who believe salaat is non-physical, then what is "ruku", and what is "sujood"?

                        Peace,

                        Ahmad

                          peace AB, all,

I find it interesting that two spheres of meaning seem to dominate when it comes to discussing "salat" on this forum.

                          1. physical
                          2. non-physical

And when they are phrased like this they are of course absurd. If we cant even get the words we use correct, what chance do we have when we are trying to understand concepts and meanings!

Let's get one thing straight, no matter if one thinks salat=prayer (i.e. physical) or salat=upholding commandments (non-physical), neither is 100% physical or 100% non-physical, BOTH involve a mental component as well as a physical component. Just like when one gives to charity, it is both an action of the body and mind, but you will NEVER hear someone argue "physical charity".... and the reason is this wording is of course absurd, yet this wording gets used like this for salat. It is the height of nonsense.

This thread is for occurrences of salat, not its meaning. I posted the above to clarify a painfully obvious point.

KEEP it on topic or risk posts getting deleted without notice, as per forum rules. There are plenty of threads discussing meaning of salat, and other words.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

We must bear in mind that Mind is the only thing that shall be allowed to function to keep control of the physique. Thus there is either 100% wisdom involving soulfully, the mind or else none at all. Body shall submit and obey the mindfulness. Let the body become a wholesome functional element and be in oneness with the mind. If we allow the body to become active as in physical salaat, such act dissociates mind and body as two units independent of each other, then we are split personalities. The physical and mental salat combined into one as a ritual salat causes such irregularities!

Would it not be more proper to suggest that the brain receives and conveys/communicates the messages to the body cells.

How can the brain control the body unless it is excited by something/someone foreign to it? No cell, living or dead/of matter could initiate any action untill it is excited by the energy exerted/applied on it. Brain cells cannot be considered an exception to this basic fact of the universe. Therefore the quoted statement needs to be considered somewhat more in depth, before making or considering it a proven fact.

Brain is only a reflexive organ emitting effector response to the signals it receives from various organs, tissues and cells of the body; it has no mind; but submits and very much responsive to the just commands of the mind.

If you re-read the article from Aidid Safar you see that Salaah/Solaa etc have nothing whatsoever to ritual prayer. It means comitting yourself to Allah's Deen Islam, that is DOING what Allah tells us in the Quran. It is all about action, like not corrupting the earth (pollution), do good deeds, help the poor and there are many stories and sayings in the Quran on what to DO.

And when it comes to PRAYER we call on Allah the Merciful (or any of His attribute, as I believe it is NOT enough to just call on Allah or God, you MUST add some of His atributes, like the Creator, The Maker of all etc) we can do that anytime in any position we feel the need to adopt.
