That's the first time I've seen that link

Their point (1) is rubbish that's the first time I've read "wst" means "better". That does not fit with Quranic usage, thus to refute this point proves nothing. Anyone can see what "wst" means by reading its usage in The Quran.

Their point (2) and (3) is interesting, in the sense that it looks like they do not realise the significance of their finding. Let me know when they prove from The Quran that "salat" means "prayer", then we can go back to their point (2) and (3) and discuss it. I wonder if they translate "salawat" as "prayers" in the other occurrences of "salawat".... not many do. I wonder why that is eh.

Their point (4) citing 1778 as evidence of timing of a 3rd/middle "salat" has been refuted in this forum, that is why no long term forum member accepts this interpretation.

Indeed the points 2 and 3 are very interesting. Think about it - if there were indeed 2 prayers per day, then it would have said

"Preserve al-salatAYN and the ?balanced? (? weird translation, but ok...) contact prayer..." (223

Since it's more than two, it says Preserve al-salaWAT and the middle (wusta) prayer.

    "The balanced salat"??

You can only have A balanced salat, not "THE" balanced salat, if you know anything about english grammar.

But whatever, you will never get convinved.

    Peace

This is the ultimate refutal of the 2 Salaat Theory using Verses from the Quran
"GOD is the light of the heavens and the earth. The allegory of His light is that of a concave mirror behind a lamp that is placed inside a glass container. The glass container is like a bright, pearl-like star. The fuel thereof is supplied from a blessed oil-producing tree, that is neither eastern, nor western. Its oil is almost self-radiating; needs no fire to ignite it.
Light upon light. GOD guides to His light whoever wills (to be guided). GOD thus cites the parables for the people.
GOD is fully aware of all things." (2435)
"(Lit is such a Light) in houses, which God hath permitted to be raised to honour; for the celebration, in them, of His name In them is He glorified in the mornings and in the evenings." (2436)
"By men whom neither traffic nor merchandise can divert from the Remembrance of God, nor from regular Prayer, nor from the practice of regular Charity Their (only) fear is for the Day when hearts and eyes will be transformed (in a world wholly new)." (2437)
God is giving us an example of men who are in mosques and glorify God IN THE MORNING AND IN THE EVENING. These men are NOT DISTRACTED FROM TRADE.
Compare this to O ye who believe! When the call is proclaimed to prayer on Friday (the Day of Assembly), hasten earnestly to the Remembrance of God, AND LEAVE OFF BUSINESS (and traffic) That is best for you if ye but knew! (629)
Notice that God is teling us that we should leave off business here. This means it is NEITHER IN THE MORNING NOR IN THE EVENING, BECAUSE BEFORE GOD SAID THAT MEN WHO GLORIFY HIM MORNINGS AND EVENINGS IN MOSQUES (OR OTHER PRAYER HOUSES) ARE NOT DISTRACTED BY TRADE. BUT WHEN REFERRING TO THE CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER, GOD TELLS US THAT WE SHOULD LEAVE OFF BUSINESS, MEANING THAT IT IS DURING THE DAY.

      Peace,
      Respectfully.

What about nightshifts? People work round the clock because they are in the hurry to worship their idol - ? $ E.
I mean, i know some people who work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week for such a salary .... it makes me sick. But what can we do?

      Peace.

It could be understood that there are only two salaats in a life time. Your salwaats is more eloquent.

          Two salaats in a lifetime??

Anyways, can you please tell me what THE ?BALANCED? SALAT IS? Clearly, there is only one "Al-Salat Al-Wusta".
So, what is THE "balanced" salat?

In 2238, I understand it as "contact prayer".

So tell me, what is THE balanced sala??

                  What is Salaat in Quran?

You might want to start with the root/meaning.

Sad-Lam-Waw = prayer, supplication, petition, oration, eulogy, benediction, commendation, blessing, honour, magnifiy, bring forth, follow closely, walk/follow behind closely, to remain attached.
In a horse race when the second horse follows the first one so closely that its head always overlaps the first horse?s body that horse is called AL-MUSSALLI (i.e. the one who follows closely / remains attached).
Central portion of the back, portion from where the tail of an animal comes out, the rump.

The meaning in 1778, 11114 and 2238 is "contact prayer" (IMO).

                  Peace

This is even easier to understand how a balanced one would be. Don't saty a long time doing it and have lessr time to apply it, nor do it in a short time that you do not benefit from it.

To be a "musalli" you have to know how to race and what your tarjet is. This is what you learn during your "contact prayer" twice a day, when you are not diturbed by anything or anyone

                      Peace,

The Qur'aan is a "REMINDER" for humanity. It reminds us of the guidance already outlined in the Torah, Tanakh, and Injeel. Allah stated in the book that the truth is separate from falsehood, not that the truth was "now present". The truth was ALREADY HERE, and the law was established with the revelation of the Torah. And the previous scriptures tell us to uphold THREE daily prayer observances. So, these aren't sufficient enough? If "salaat" is referring to prayer, where are Abraham and his descendants, including the Jews, told to pray TWICE a day?

                      Peace,

                      Ahmad

There is no obligatory timed prayer in the Torah. There is burnt offerings though. Could it be one and the same?

1437 "O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in a valley without cultivation, by Thy Sacred House; in order, O our Lord, that they may establish regular Prayer so fill the hearts of some among men with love towards them, and feed them with fruits so that they may give thanks.

Why do you need to be near the sacred house to uphold Salat?

2241 (They are) those who, if We establish them in the land, establish Salat and give regular charity, enjoin the right and forbid wrong with Allah rests the end (and decision) of (all) affairs.

Again the land's connection to the Salat.

                        Compare this to...

Exd 51 Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, "This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says 'Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival to me in the desert.' "

Exd 58 But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don't reduce the quota. They are lazy; that is why they are crying out, 'Let us go and sacrifice to our God.'

                        Peace,

There is no "to" in the Arabic.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

                                Peace Brother Wakas

I am aware of that as you already pointed out to me in another thread about hajj and ila , this is my personal understanding and interpretation and I believe it fits the context of 2238 . I would appreciate any further help to clarify the meaning of 'al wusta' in the context of the verse ( if I take Salat not to mean "ritual prayer" ) .

                                Thanks

If you know arabic ,then you must be aware of which type of "phrase " it is.Then it will be easy for you to establish its meaning.

Thank you Brother Q_s , if I know Arabic , I wouldn't be asking questions about the Qur'an , I would be translating the whole Qur'an myself using all the "The Resources" available . Does one really need to know Arabic to be a muslim and a mu'miin ? What is your understanding of "Al Salat Al Wusta" ?

                                    Thanks

I myself is a student as you can know from my nick name. But this phrase is called technically as "Murakkab Tauseefi" which is a combination of "sifat mousoof".So possible explanation whould be in line with this concept.

I do not see a problem with almarh0m "understanding". It's not a literal translation, and languages can not be mirrored. Commitment to moderation and moderate commitment are different IMO, the latter being the literal translation.
