Isa ibn Maryam

Asalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahamatullahi Wa Barakatuh
I am still new to Islam, having taken my Shahada only four years ago. I was pondering over this earlier today, and had hoped Inshallah, my more learned brothers and sisters here would aide my understanding on this matter.
When I studied the Old Testament, first with the aide of a native hebrew speaker over Isaiah 714 about a virgin giving birth. It was confirmed the context was involving a King at the time looking for a sign and that when it was translated from Hebrew -> Greek the term "young woman" of the hebrew was lost to "virgin" that we have today in the english translations of the bible. This seems to take the authenticity of the term out the window from a hebraic understanding (I would never hesitate to say it is nothing for Allah to make a thousand men without human fathers without any effort.)
Jews do not believe Jesus was born of a virgin and the christians who did, did not come about until about two hundred years after the crucifixion. So, that is the first part of my question; Where do muslims get this idea from? I believe it is mentioned in the Qur'an, yet even if it sounds rude, I must ask for more proof outside of it if I may.
Second question, has been about the crucifixion itself. Why did someone else have to be crucified in his place? Allah is surely all-powerful, why make anyone die? ( This is what got me as a christian - since the path of salvation was already in place in Judaism, it made Jesus' death as an atonement unnecessary. It would have been easier for God to just forgive mankind than make someone else die in their place. )
These two things have troubled me for a few months after my Shahada when I started looking critically at Islam as any thinking person should about their religion.
Inshallah, I shall get thoughts on this that stimulate and educate.
Wa Salaama.

Death of Jesus
354 They schemed and God schemed, but God is the best schemer.
355 God said, "O Jesus, I will terminate your life, and raise you to Me, and cleanse you of those who have rejected, and make those who have followed you above those who rejected, until the day of Resurrection; then to Me is your return so I will judge between all of you in what you were disputing."
Making of Jesus
1920 She (Mary) said, "How can I have a son when no human has touched me, nor do I desire such?"
359 The example of Jesus with God is similar to that of Adam; He created him from dust, then He said to him, "Be," and he became.
360 The truth is from your Lord; so do not be of those who are doubtful.
361 Whoever debates with you in this after the knowledge has come to you, then say, "Let us call our children and your children, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then, let us call out, and we shall make God's curse upon the liars."
362 This is the narration of truth, there is no god but God; and God is the Noble, the Wise.
363 If they turn away, then God is aware of the corruptors
BTW with shahada do you mean "la ilaha illa Allah" as per 318 or the Sunni shahada?
Peace

Wa Alaykum Al Salam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuh,
With respect to Mary's virginity, upon being told that she would be given a son, the Quran quotes her as saying "From where will I have a son when no human has touched me, and I have not been unchaste/a harlot?" The Quran then proceeds to say "Thus said your lord, "It is easy for me."."
As to extra-Quranic evidence to prove or disprove the virginity of a woman who lived up to 2000 years ago, I think you would be hard-pressed to find anything.
And with respect to the death of Jesus, the Quran says nothing of replacing Jesus with someone else. The phrase used is "shubbiha lahum" that is, "it was made apparent to them". This could mean any number of things.
One theory is that his actual person (his self) was raised to God before they actually laid hands on him, hence the expression "innee raafi3uka ilayya", meaning "I will raise you to Me". Thus all that was left of Jesus on earth was a barren body (but not inanimate). And so when they crucified him they didn't actually crucify him but "it was made apparent to them". Still, I don't think we can be certain as to what exactly happened.
On another note, what is the status of the Quran Radio which you set up? Is it running? Or is it still under construction?

Sis uq, the project was set back after the server was hacked and many files lost. ( Seems the Qur'an only message was not pleasant to whomever instigated said attack. )
However, I have not backed down from the idea. Those who had said they would volunteer have since went their own way, and I shall not pass remarks as it was their choice.
Inshallah, I am rebuilding the content for the initial release and re-recording said content for its second release. ( Also, with a much more locked down and secured web-server I might add, lol. )

It was made apparent to them could be very much optical illusion.he was not crucified.
peace
- i dont think he was crucified, it was more like timber (tree).
- he was put to death (ie. his soul was taken up by God) - the people only tortured the dead body.
Please look at the quoted verses in my first post.

Kepp up your path God Alone, Quran Alone but with no proof it can not be accepted.
God clearly authored that Jesus is craetion not son.
By the way have you cahnged your name and appearance accoerding to Haith too?
Peace ) -
Peace,
The reason for this confusion is the inaccurate notion that if it is canonical its from God, but if its apocrypha or tradition, it becomes a fabrication though both material have the same historian style. All the hebrew and greek literature is similar to the hadith. A compilation of history.
Actually the virgin birth of Jesus is not the only bizarre thing in the Quran. There is also the legendary story of Solomon, the Afterlife!!, the Seven Heavens and many other legends that Jews and Christians will swear on their dead bodies that these things are later developments.
It all boils down to one word TRUST.
Do you really trust God?
Peace,
Rami

I have struggled with this problem for many years. I tend to accept that "Virgin" was a mistranslation and an adaption just to attract the virgin worshiping pagans into Christianity. How the story arrived in the Quran baffles me.

The virgin thing is correct, HOWEVER you are partially right, the mother and son worshipping was already present.

You are so right. Jews can successfully refute the Quran by refuting the Messianship of Jesus and the Virgin Birth.
Actually the idea of Jewish Messiah is a myth and a misunderstanding of the Hebrew texts. The idea of an eschatological Messiah is a made up idea.
May God guides us to what is right.

It is the main stumbling block between the 3 religions, that of Jesus being divine. If we could all get around that and see Jesus for what he was, a prophet, then maybe, just maybe, we could all come together

No its not his divinity only but him being the Messiah and the Virgin Birth.
-
Well in Christianity they all go together.
Yeah. The problem is that the Quran calls Jesus 'The Messiah'. Any serious reader of the Tanakh will say that this is a pure joke. It should have said that Jesus is a messiah 'anointed'. In this case, it will be more believable and less dramatic.

True. Messiah just means "anointed" many millions of people have been anointed.

But the question remains...
Is Astrotheology a false premise or the ultimate connection?
The Bible and the Quran testify that the position of the stars is not haphazard and data can be gained from it and the will of God is actually written there if you can read it properly.
5675 I do swear by the positions of the stars.

The positions of the stars is not haphazard, they can be predicted millions of years in the future and the past. Whether the will of God is written there, I do not know.
