That video has been on Horizon Mosque's site for a while.

I giggled when the nun got owned by the translation of the verse read by the host. Sonya said nowhere in the Quran does it command women to cover their hair and the nun said it's in the Quran. The host read "cast their scarves over their bosoms" but despite the fact the sunni translation tries to twist this verse, the key word in this verse is ('ala) which means ON and not OVER (fowq) and EVEN if it said over in no way is it commanding the covering of the hair. A scarf can be over a breast (and not even covering it or on it) and not even anywhere on the head. The sunni's are simply a deluded sect among the many false ones.

        By the way it's "niqab".

I remember watching this a while ago, and thinking kind of how stuck-up (kind of like holier-than-thou) the hijabi lady was acting, kind of like she was better... I didn't get that same vibe from the niqabi or lady with no hijab.
Strange. Anyone else get the same impression?
And then when the hijabi lady was saying that it does say you have to cover your hair in the Qur'an the non-hijabi was kind of knocked off-guard...
I just don't understand how so many people insist that it says "cover your hair" in the Qur'an.
I can understand how someone can say it's implied, if you want to go the route of saying that khimaar means it needs to be on your head.... but to say it says specifically to "cover your hair" is outright wrong.

If God made the hair on your head, then why hide it?

Well using that logic, you can say that God made my private parts, so why hide them? ;D

Why indeed? Well, do you want the typical male answer to that or the real answer? laugh

According to the bible, when male and female were first created, they were both naked. It was only after eating from the "tree of knowledge" they saw their nakedness and covered their private parts.

There isn't that story in the Qur'an, but yeah obviously those parts arouse sexual desire especially for the guys.
But you had said that since God made the hair, why cover it ... and since God made everything why cover it. I was being goofy. laugh

Well, you may have been "being goofy" but you actually make a very good point. If human society had developed naked (as some tribes in Africa), we would think nothing of it, would continue to be naked and this conversation would make no sense to us. But because we "covered up", for whatever reason, we now consider it wrong, or embarrassing to be seen naked and the amount and style of clothing becomes the subject of contention.

2431 Tell the acknowledging women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts, and that they should not show off their attraction except what is apparent of it, and let them cast their clothes over their cleavage.

The verse is telling us that women are actually allowed to show off some of their attraction. Notice the underlined and especially the bold. "Except what is apparent OF IT" clearly shows this and rfutes all claims that women have to be covered from head to toe.

I am no longer a Sunna-rejecter. See 4:59-65, 62:2-4, 3:31, 4:156, 7:157 Messenger teaches and is to be followed and obeyed. Examples of revelation received which is not in the Qur'an: 3:123-126, 33:37, 2:187, 66:3, 62:9.

I remember watching this a while ago, and thinking kind of how stuck-up (kind of like holier-than-thou) the hijabi lady was acting, kind of like she was better... I didn't get that same vibe from the niqabi or lady with no hijab.
Strange. Anyone else get the same impression?

People think that it says cover your hair in the Qur'an because many English translations say this. The first Qur'an I bought used the word head cover... it's mainly so that it links with the hadiths.

I really felt for the non-hijabi in this video. The interviewer wasn't very fair and basically told her she wasn't practising her faith properly because of the translation she read out. I tried to leave a comment on YouTube saying the non-hijabi had a fair point but people pressed the "thumbs down" button so you can no longer read my comment. >(

So in other words, women should just cover their private parts and cleavage. Which I'm sure most women do anyway

I thought they were, on the whole pretty respectful of one another though quick to take personal offense. I didn't like that Sonia's defense is basically that the Muslim world need to look more friendly, appearance-wise, to the Western world.

The woman wearing the hijab says that men too have their own compulsory dresscode and can't wear whatever they want but technically this is untrue because the way the Sunni ruling is, men CAN practically wear whatever they want unless they have an all-consuming urge to constantly walk around in Speedos. How can one compare head-to-toe covering with covering just from the navel to the knees?

Also, did anyone catch the bit where the reporter says "I'm sure you're anxious about breaking your fast" and connected that to a bit in the clip where Sonia drinks from a cup? That made me LOL.

I agree, assimilation isn't the right word, people's cultures should be respected even if they live in a western place. A person in a headscarf or niqab doesn't automatically make them unfriendly. People approach me i can't look too evil or unfriendly. It was like she was implicating anyone who covers isn't able to do anything in the world. anything useful with other people. inevitably all people will have prejudices be it in hijab, niqab or not that's inescapable..

                                          Respectfully.

I can see from the video that the woman in the middle was being dressed as a Muslim.
I also think you should read Genesis to see who use to cover herself with the niqab and burqa.

                                          Peace.
