More (gasp!) Women In Hell?

Peace All,
I was riding to work with a colleague ( a sunni - muslim) this morning and she played a CD of a preaching by this Ustaz....(she's been playing various kind of religious CDs since the so-called Ramadhan (i still dont know what to make of the debates on this) started.
Anyway, I have never really paid much attention to the rumblings of these ustaz before, my content mind seemed to wander away thinking what beautiful sun, sky, trees God made, why is this mosquito happily sucking blooding on my hand and that Id better slap it coz the dengue fever's on the rise..etc everytime the CD's playing.
But this morning, it caught my attention.
I have heard of it before,a long time ago. And like a good muslim girl, accepted it. Muhammad the Prophet came down from his ride to the 7th sky and said he's seen Hell, and there's more women in it...2/3 of it..
Could this be true?
So I went for a search using a good 2-hour of office time. I found that there's is another thread already discussing these

but I still have questions and would like to try my approach on this.

Anyway, I thought, ok, if 2/3 of the world population is made of women, there might be a chance that Hell would have the same ratio as well, given that the men and women has the same amount of responsibilities to God, same reward, same punishment from Him etc...

As I would have guessed, scrolls and scrolls of Hadiths were presented, each one sometimes more ridiculous than the other.

It was narrated that Abu Sa?eed al-Khudri said "The Messenger of Allah () went out to the Musalla on the day of Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr. He passed by the women and said, ?O women! Give charity, for I have seen that you form the majority of the people of Hell.? They asked, ?Why is that, O Messenger of Allah?? He replied, ?You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religious commitment than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you.? The women asked, ?O Messenger of Allah, what is deficient in our intelligence and religious commitment?? He said, ?Is not the testimony of two women equal to the testimony of one man?? They said, ?Yes.? He said, ?This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Is it not true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?? The women said, ?Yes.? He said, ?This is the deficiency in her religious commitment.?? (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 304)

I believe there's no direct answer as to the ratio of men and women in hell per se (anyone who did find it in the Quran are more than welcome to have a say), but it lies within the fact that men and women are created equal. period.

I always mention those statistics, saying that 'to ensure every man has a wife, you'll need to get a few women to have at least two husbands. you should see how annoyed they get about polyandry, saying that well a lot of American men are gay, confused so they aren't available, but then again, a siilar 'lot' of women are lesbian, laugh so they are off the hetero marriage market too.... brickwall giveup

That's the man-concocted hadith for you sweetheart. You will find nothing in there that degrades men but only women. If you really want to decipher this issue about women being more in hell and other nonsense like they must cover their hair when they go outside, I suggest you read that link and how Judaism and Christianity easily infiltrated Islam what with converts and enemies to the prophet who fabricated these things that are obviously none other than teachings from the bible. Many times it is mentioned in the Quran that these Christians and Jews were present at the time of Muhammad and even tried to get him to practice their religion. Is it then no wonder that they fabricated these things and attributed them to him JUST to get people to follow them? And even made books saying the narrators, which they in all likelihood fabricated as well, were honest trustworthy people? All of this is in the Quran and in that link.
If anything the Quran says that the fuel of the fire is MEN AND STONES. Hopefully for these fabricators it would have said women but nope, men and stone it is ;D. Of course it's just not men but this seems to emphasize that yes men will definitely populate that area. Seeing as though disbelievers comprise men and women it is not only men or women who will be there. God decided to specifically say though that men will be fuel for the fire. Yay!....... (

Some explanations I've heard for these hadiths (from women themselves!) are
~the same thing about numbers, that there are more women than men so it's a matter of just being more women. But that's not what the hadith is saying....
~because women go about with their heads uncovered and dressed badly, and because they make men stray from being good.

When my father was a small kid he was told that women are devils (or something like that).
Maybe that came from this hadith
Jabir reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) saw a woman, and so he came to his wife, Zainab, as she was tanning a leather and had sexual intercourse with her. He then went to his Companions and told them The woman advances and retires in the shape of a devil, so when one of you sees a woman, he should come to his wife, for that will repel what he feels in his heart.

perhaps it was just a misinterpretation of a future events that the prophet saw while having an obe.in the astral realms he could have seen women suffering in hell,
but what is hell really, it's a state of mind which can be experienced here on earth,and if you think about it, there are a lot of women in the world suffering, seems like there's more women then men in "hell" here. but then again that's my opinion, seems the only logical possibility.

"These are God's revelations (Quran) that we recite to you truthfully. In which HADITH other than God and His revelations do they believe?" 456

Why did God permitted these so called Hadiths ? The answer is in next verse.
"We have permitted the enemies of every prophet - human and jinn devils - to inspire in each other FANCY WORDS , in order to deceive. Had your Lord willed, they would not have done it. You shall disregard them and their FABRICATIONS. This is to let the minds of those who do not believe in the Hereafter listen to such FABRICATIONS, and accept them, and thus expose their real convictions.

There are other hadiths (as mentioned in this thread) that there are more women than men in heaven. Considering that there are about equal numbers of males and females born in this world in all eras, doesn't it make it logically impossible for both the hadiths to be true?

From Muhammad Asad's translation of the Quran we have

Will they not, then, try to understand this Qur?an? Had it issued from any but God, they would surely have found in it many an inner contradiction!*
*I.e., the fact that it is free of all inner contradictions - in spite of its having been revealed gradually, over a period of twenty-three years - should convince them that it has not been "composed by Muhammad" (an accusation frequently levelled against him not only by his contemporaries but also by non-believers of later times), but could only have originated from a supra-human source. See also 25 32 and 39 23.)
The difference between the hadith collections and the great Quran become very clear after just a cursory reading of both.

Devout sunni's believe the majority opinion/established opinion by scholars. Therefore yes, they believe more women are in hell than men (which isn't a surprise since sexist, ignorant men fabricated the hadith regarding this and all hadith in general, besides God's of course).

They do not believe the houris are actual women who have lived on this planet.
Therefore that opinion is exactly what they would say. In fact it is pretty much an actual (fabricated) hadith.
