Defending a British Island? The Island is practically on Argentina's door step. As for a great lady, she privatised everything and I havent even mentioned the poll tax she come up with, remember the riots? Anyways I am sure there was some good she did but overall I did not like her.
Peace
Hope
She only waged war in self defence.

Yes a British island where every one on the island is British and speaks only English and is entitled to the full protection of Britain just as any other part of Britain is. She privatised a lot, yes she did, taking many big organisations from massive debt into profit. The so called "Poll-tax" was called the community Charge, originally a very fair way of taxation to replace the very unfair "rates" system. the riots were caused by people that had got away with not paying the old rates for many years. The system that is now in place called the "Council tax" is almost identical to the Community charge or so called poll-tax.

Since their discovery, the Falkland Islands have had a complex history. France, Britain, Spain, and Argentina have all claimed possession at some time, and have established and abandoned settlements on the islands. So its hard to see who really owns it.
Poll tax was a fixed amount per individual. Council tax is a tax paid per property. So if you lived in a house with you your wife and 2 kids over 18 all 4 of you had to pay poll tax and it does not matter if you was a rich family or poor, all paid the same. I dont believe this to be fair. However, council tax is paid by each house owner and depending on the area and house their is different bands, so the rich pay more than the poor. A much fairer system in my opinion. Under Thatcher the rich became richer and the poor became poorer. Eventually she lost the backing of her cabinate and she resigned. No more Iron lady.Peace

I understand what you are saying, but the idea was that if, as you say, 4 people were living in the house, then they use 4 times the services than one person in the house, which sounds fair to me. But your opinion and mine was the reason for the whole argument about it. I'm not sure it can be resolved into right or wrong, which is why it grew into riots. Both sides had their point.

Well I feel the rich should pay more, they have more to give.
