Maybe it's just here in Australia, but there is no Mosques for Quran only Muslims. I dnt like goin to Sunni or shia mosques. R Quran only Muslims just on the Internet? A Muslim told me how can I be right, (following just Quran) as there is no mosques that support this view. That the majority of Muslims go to mosques which teach hadith, muhammeds the greatest, dnt do this or that...n none are Quran only mosques they visit (I think that 19 group hav a mosque in USA but yea, I don't believe that stuf no offense).

This is bugging me. I and I'm sure many others, would love to just go to a mosque with like-minded people. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but this religion can't just b known threw the Internet. I want to do dawah, but the people will eventually want to go somewhere to meet Muslims or get advice etc. I wouldn't wnt them to just go to sum wahabi or watever mosque u no?

    I hope I make sense...

Salam Ozi.. I fully understand you, but let me guess you're a 'christian' once?

I personally do not see the need of such 'exclusivity'..
If you don't like the mosques in your area then just don't go to it..
If you like to set up your own 'mosque' then go ahead, but maintaining the 'exclusivity' for 'only for those people who share the belief' will be very hard to do and not too constructive either.

Let's look at the historical track..
Where did Jesus teach? Jewish Synagogue..
Did Jesus setup his own synagogue exclusively for his 'follower'? No..
Did the audience share Jesus own belief and opinion? Some of them do, some of them don't..

Where did Abraham teach? His own home... he setup an "Abraham's hotel" offering free lodging and meals for passing traveler..
Did Abraham make his own home/hotel exclusively only for his 'follower' / those who share his belief? No..
Did the audience share Abraham own belief and opinion? Some of them do, some of them don't..

      Salam / Peace

Yea I dnt think u no wat I'm saying... The fact that nearly every single mosque in the whole world either talk about Muhammed more then God, write Muhammeds name nxt to Gods, quote Hadith more than Quran, talk all this crap from jihad through to women.... Dosnt this make u think y not one mosque has the whole Quran alone idea?

It is not satisfactory in some aspects, but why go to a place where ou are going to get upset for nothing?
From wht a hear from fellow muslim women when they have attended mosques, it is not a treat precisely. They are put in holes apart or behind where they are pushed back whenever more male latecomers arrive (and that in spite of hadith, yes), and on top of that the women attending use the masjid as a place to have their little giggle and chats through the khutba and other proceedings. So it is very disappointing.

The places where I could be in peace and enjoy prayers and the masyid is in the masjis of some sufi tariqas (not any tariqa) where the atmosphere is truly egalitarian and fraternal and there is no obsession with ritual. You can try those if there is one in you area.

Jafar is right. If muslims of whatever tendency evolve to abandon ritualism, male privileges and other bad habits, eventually any masjid will be good for all. The point is to meet like minded people as you say, may be not a million but just some. May be you can attend the masjid and watch out for people who may seem more approachable and sort through them. Or find somebody near you through the internet forums or nets.

If not, well, better internet than nothing.

          Salaam

Maybe we do not need a Mosque but rather a place of gathering to study, exchange ideas, get to meet like minded people etc... However, such gatherings will probably provoke anger by those who appose our views. Just a thought.

It's a dream to meet a group of people from free minds and talk directly, face to face, exchanging ideas live, talking is better than typing, u can recite a book in a day, but to write it takes days .
I do have friends God aloners though, and when we meet, the only thing we talk about is the quran, discoveries of meanings, and exchange of what we read on the internet, so a few knicknames here are known to my friends though. Specially the weird names, that sound like the 1st century names like Wakas , when i read this name I feel it belongs to the time of harun rashid etc... LOL when i say to my friends the name Wakas, they feel he's a scholar LOL
the debate is always with laughter, and jokes on the debates specially from sunnis and the responses frpm Quranists, we say quranists because we talk in frensh, and when saying god aloners in frensh sounds like multiple gods people , so the sentence is longer , so we just say quranists ( les coranistes ) , even if we say quran aloneers doesn't sound right in frensh, it sounds as quran lonely, and it doesn't sound on people but on the quran only.
The best part is at home, group of people with quran at hand and exchanging verses reading, beautifull, u can see the light, u can feel the room was pure, peace of mind.
I wonder what will be the feeling if in the mosque with a very knowlegeble preacher , whi when he talks make sense.

well, i'm not drunk ad i feel like i'm talking like a drunk LOL

You just need a room. It could just be your living room. No need for a building just for that purpose.

Actually in an ideal quranic society, there is no mosque. Just as Brits head down to the pub, so will believers flock to each other in the house of the public.

Because mosques cost money that need a community to run it possibly by government grants. once you get a community we can start complaining and demanding otherwise you're walking on broken legs.

furthermore not all mosques are on and on about Mohammed, most of the time the mosques are empty only during pray time or specific times they do 'classes' in which you will find crowds.

i'm sure you could go in a less frequent time with a bunch of friends otherwise you can learn through many resources out there to gain insight. of course it would be common courtesy to follow the mosque etiquettes if you went otherwise you're just asking for trouble.

Nope I don't think so... I ask you again do you really understand what is a 'mosque'?
Does it need to be a building with arabic architecture, letterings or arabic name in it?
Or more over does it need to be a building?

Don't go to that kind of building where people talk 'craps'.. or more precisely don't meet that kind of people..
Find somebody else... whoever whenever wherever..
And you shall understand that you don't need a building named mosque in the first place..

                                  Hi All,

I just wanted to add that I do not visit mosques in Manchester for two reasons 1)The fact that Quran isnt relied upon brickwall and 2) women are very rarley occuping the nice areas of a mosque -X (hehe just remembered a time when I wandered into the wrong entrance of a mosque as it was soooo lovely but HARAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMM I was ushered out by the men into a small damp room where the toilets were unfinished and damp had set in.........welcome to the womens room........ nope

A Muslim told me how can I be right, (following just Quran) as there is no mosques that support this view.

Another illogical argument! Maybe Muslims don't get sick because I haven't seen a Muslim hospital in my town.

I would love to have a mosque to go to where I feel comfortable as well, but I think it's more of a numbers thing. At my mosque it's segregated and most things are in another language. It's pretty uncomfortable and my guess is that if I start going again and do my prayer differently it will cause a stir. Not really worth it.

Imaani1 - our womens bathroom has nothing for the women to wash there feet. You have to lift your feet up into the basin where you also wash your hands. Of course the men have plenty of places to wash. ???

                                        Salaam,

Well, you do not need a specific building to feel closer or have discussions about God. You can do it anywhere. Anyway, this reminds me of what a friend of mine told me back then when I was still a traditional muslim. I lamented that there was no mosque close to my area and he said something along the line that every inch of the earth would be our mosque, as long as we God inside our hearts.

That being said, it does not matter where you are. Online "mosque" (read Free Minds) is not that bad. If it can make you feel at home and that sense of belonging, so be it.

                                          Hi Everyone,

I see the argument for and against having a separate mosque. If you have a separate mosque then sunnis and shia won't interact with you and see how good of muslims you actually are. I also understand the need for a place of refuge and comfort to pray.

This is very evident in the Jewish community as well. If you go to an Orthodox synagogue then women sit in a separate area than men, women are not required to pray and the entire experience is in Hebrew. Many reform or progressive Jews can't stand to go to an Orthodox congregation. Hence they go to a reform or progressive congregation. Is there a separation? Yes, but most people mingle at the Jewish Community Center so we sort of have our own space to pray and then a common area as well. Also, Jews mingle alot across many congregations for various celebrations, weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs so they see each other.

I think it is difficult to deny that some people would be more comfortable in a group of like minded people while others can live with out it. What I would propose is a dual system similar to what the Jewish community has. a private place to worship as well as a common place of gathering. So your home could be the private place of worship. Invite a few friends over and have Quran study. Then have a public presence as well. This could be as simple as going to a local uni and holding a Quran study. You could also create a small group who do good works in the community. That is one area where the muslim community is lacking (at least in the USA). Go out and work with other organizations to feed homeless people or help elderly people or tutor kids. If people see you doing good works motivated by faith they will be more open to what you have to say.

Also if you are going to go to a shia or sunni mosque why not go as a group. I think that will also help make you feel more included. Let them see your faith shine through. Also if you get involved with Muslim student associations at uni you will feel more included as unis tend to be more open minded.

The point is.... work out a system where you can feel comfortable but still have a public presence.

                                          Just my thoughts...

                                          Shalom, Salam, Peace,
