An excellent observation for cross check.

Thanks. After I posted, I was also thinking about "rabb" like Raaajah.

But rabb is so often used with a possessive pronoun like "your Lord" - is it ever used as "THE Lord" in the Qur'an like it is in the Bible? Except in direct connection with the word Allah Allah ir-Rabbil 'alameen.

The issue is rather, do we find "Ar-Rabb" by itself as a subject? In any case, I'm siding with Mazhar that Ar-Rahman is the most intimate/personal name of all the names.

    God bless you.

I do not believe Allah is named, in such a way. Allah is not born, and thus unnamed, by human standards. Allah is completely transcendent. Some use the expression "nameless" about this. He is without a name/definition. However as we know, The Quran uses the expression "All the most beautiful names belong to him." And we know that, as we praise our Lord, we give him truthfully the best of attributes/names.

        Peace,

I do not believe Allah is named, in such a way.

It is clearly written "in name" Allah

Fascinating! Thank you! I do have one question though. . . in an earlier part of your writing in this post you talk about how names are neither male or female and later you say that this name can't be feminized. Is it then male? Or is Ar'Reh'maan gender neutral? (Sorry, but I don't know Arabic very well at all!) )
          Thanks!

Adjectives, participles are also nouns in Arabic. is masculine. To make it feminine we will make it . What I stated is that Personal Nouns/Names are not processed for making them feminine or from feminine making them masculine. A masculine name will always remain masculine. I hope Sisiter it clarifies.

"Rabb" is not a personal name. It is a noun of relationship. Therefore it has a suffixed possessive pronoun or a separate possessive noun in genitive construction. And is a verbal noun. Personal Name is exclusive to the Self/Being/Personality.

First time I feel this translation after reading all thses

I believe ALLAH=The God is the wrong translation , in arabic is the god = Al-Ileh , just like God=Ileh , and The God isn't Allah. but Al-Ileh

In the name of The Divinity, Alrahman the merciful

                Sounds more personnel message

So true.... First, He/Allah/That-which-is-beyond-being CREATED (by his infinite grace/mercy/rahmah independent/samad), then he told the creation, "Am I not your RABB?" - thereby establishing the relationship. (AQ 7.172) Before there was a creation, there had to be Ar-Rahman projecting ruh/being/primordial-substance outward in the direction of nothingness.

This is perfectly in line with traditional metaphysics, by the way.

But why did you call nabi Muhammad (a.s.) "our Guide Lord" in the first post? (7th paragraph) We are commanded not to take prophets as lords. That's what Christians and Buddhists do.

Rahman sounds like Amon RA in reverse

maybe the god of the Egyptians was called Rahman

the eye of RA is not an eye symbol, but that's how to write AmonRa

Mazhar is Right, the only name of Allah in the Quran is RAHMAN

I copied most verses containing the name Rahman, i replaced the beneficient with the original name Rahman , and it sounds a personal name , the only personnel name, all others are attributes

Thus We send thee unto a nation, before whom other nations have passed away, that thou mayst recite unto them that which We have inspired in thee, while they are disbelievers in AlRahman. Say He is my Lord; there is no God save Him. In Him do I put my trust and unto Him is my recourse 1330

Say Cry unto Allah, or cry unto AlRahman, unto whichsoever ye cry . His are the most beautiful names. And thou , be not loud-voiced in thy worship nor yet silent therein, but follow a way between 17110

She said Lo! I seek refuge in the Beneficent One from thee, if thou art God-fearing 1718

So eat and drink and be consoled. And if thou meetest any mortal, say Lo! I have vowed a fast unto AlRahman, and may not speak this day to any mortal 1926

O my father! Serve not the devil. Lo! the devil is a rebel unto AlRahman1944

my father! Lo! I fear lest a punishment from AlRahman overtake thee so that thou become a comrade of the devil 1945

These are they unto whom Allah showed favour from among the prophets, of the seed of Adam and of those whom We carried (in the ship) with Noah, and of the seed of Abraham and Israel, and from among those whom We guided and chose. When the revelations of AlRahman were recited unto them, they fell down, adoring and weeping 1858

Gardens of Eden, which AlRahman hath promised to His slaves in the unseen. Lo! His promise is ever sure of fulfilment 1961

And, by thy Lord, verily We shall assemble them and the devils, then We shall bring them, crouching, around hell. (6 Then We shall pluck out from every sect whichever of them was most stubborn in rebellion to AlRahman 1969

Say As for him who is in error, AlRahman will verily prolong his span of life until, when they behold that which they were promised, whether it be punishment (in the world), or the Hour (of doom), they will know who is worse in position and who is weaker as an army. 1975

Hath he perused the Unseen, or hath he made a pact with AlRahman? 1978

On the day when We shall gather the righteous unto AlRahman, a goodly company 1985

They will have no power of intercession, save him who hath made a covenant with AlRahman. 1987

And they say AlRahman hath taken unto Himself a son 1988

That ye ascribe unto AlRahman a son,1991

When it is not meet for (the Majesty of) AlRahman that He should choose a son 1992

There is none in the heavens and the earth but cometh unto AlRahman as a slave. 1993

Lo! those who believe and do good works, AlRahman will appoint for them love. 1996

AlRahman, Who is established on the Throne 205

And Aaron indeed had told them beforehand O my people! Ye are but being seduced therewith, for lo! your Lord is AlRahman, so follow me and obey my order 2090

On that day they follow the summoner who deceiveth not, and voices are hushed for AlRahman, and thou hearest but a faint murmur. 20108

On that day no intercession availeth save (that of) him unto whom AlRahman hath given leave and whose word He accepteth 20109

And they say AlRahman hath taken unto Himself a son. Be He glorified! Nay, but (those whom they call sons) are honoured slaves 2126

And when those who disbelieve behold thee, they but choose thee out for mockery, (saying) Is this he who maketh mention of your gods? And they would deny all mention of AlRahman 2136

Say Who guardeth you in the night or in the day from AlRahman? Nay, but they turn away from mention of their Lord! 2142

He saith My Lord! Judge Thou with truth. Our Lord is AlRahman, Whose help is to be implored against that which ye ascribe 21112

The Sovereignty on that day will be the True (Sovereignty) belonging to AlRahman, and it will be a hard day for disbelievers 2526

Who created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them in six Days, then He mounted the Throne. AlRahman! Ask anyone informed concerning Him 2559

And when it is said unto them Adore AlRahman! they say And what is the Beneficent? Are we to adore to whatever thou (Muhammad) biddest us? And it increaseth aversion in them 2560

The (faithful) slaves of AlRahman are they who walk upon the earth modestly, and when the foolish ones address them answer Peace 2563

Never cometh there unto them a fresh reminder from AlRahman, but they turn away from it. 265

Thou warnest only him who followeth the Reminder and feareth AlRahman in secret. To him bear tidings of forgiveness and a rich reward 3611

They said Ye are but mortals like unto us. AlRahman hath naught revealed. Ye do but lie! 3615

Shall I take (other) gods in place of Him when, if AlRahman should wish me any harm, their intercession will avail me naught, nor can they save? 3623

Crying Woe upon us! Who hath raised us from our place of sleep? This is that which the Beneficent did promise, and the messengers spoke truth 3652

And if one of them hath tidings of that which he likeneth to the Beneficent One, his countenance becometh black and he is full of inward rage 4316

And they make the angels, who are the slaves of AlRahman, females. Did they witness their creation? Their testimony will be recorded and they will be questioned 4319

And they say If the AlRahman had (so) willed, we should not have worshipped them. They have no knowledge whatsoever of that. They do but guess. 4320

And were it not that mankind would have become one community, We might well have appointed, for those who disbelieve in AlRahman, roofs of silver for their houses and stairs (of silver) whereby to mount 4333

And he whose sight is dim to the remembrance of AlRahman, We assign unto him a devil who becometh his comrade 4336

And ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before thee Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped beside AlRahman 4345

Say If AlRahman hath a son, then, I shall be first among the worshippers 4381

Who feareth AlRahman in secret and cometh with a contrite heart 5033

He is The God, than Whom there is no other God, the Knower of the Invisible and the Visible. He is AlRahman, Merciful 5822

maybe AmonRa is the Rahman , the god of the Egyptians, they kidnapped the history of Egypt between an elite heritage, so no one will know that the Egyptians kings were the messengers of Allah.

we only know what they told us about the history of Egypt.

I'm confused by the concept of "Personal Name"..
                          -What is "Personal Name"?
-And who gives The God His "Personal Name"?
-Can The God haves multiple (more than one) "Personal Names"?

                            Attributes ???

                            7180

7180 And to Allah belong the most beautiful names, so call Him by them; and leave alone those who deviate His names. They will be punished for what they used to do.

"Asmaa-a" is plural. There are many names of Allah.

                            1965

1965 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them. So serve Him and be patient in His service. Do you know anything that is like Him?

Without making it complicated, it is really easy to differentiate between the names of Allah and His attributes with "AL".

                            Raheem = Attribute

                              Salaaman LB13,

                              Attributes ???

                              7180

7180 And to Allah belong the most beautiful names, so call Him by them; and leave alone those who deviate His names. They will be punished for what they used to do.

"Asmaa-a" is plural. There are many names of Allah.

                              1965

1965 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them. So serve Him and be patient in His service. Do you know anything that is like Him?

Without making it complicated, it is really easy to differentiate between the names of Allah and His attributes with "AL".

                              Raheem = Attribute
                              Al + Raheem = Name

                              Khaliq = Attribute
                              Al + Khaliq = Name

                              Malik = Attribute
                              Al + Malik = Name

                              Rubb = Attribute

                              Al + Rahmaan = Name

Say Cry unto Allah, or cry unto AlRahman, unto whichsoever ye cry . His are the most beautiful names. And thou , be not loud-voiced in thy worship nor yet silent therein, but follow a way between 17110

notice, allah mentioned two names, Allah and Alrahmane, than he said the most beautiful names . I believe only two names are in the quran, Allah and AlRahman . pluriel can be two in the arabic language of the qquran, there are many cases , exemple

If ye twain turn unto Allah repentant, (ye have cause to do so) for your hearts desired 664
, qulub is pluriel even though he's talking about two persones, two hearts
This rule been made by arabs academics after the quran came to existance, so this rule doesn't apply to the quran, because the Quran uses duality and pluriel different way in some cases , but other cases duality and pluriel are used the same way
so Asmaa Allah Alhousna are Allah and AlRahmane , no more. all others are attributes, I didn't see any verse using any attribute and calling it a name of allah, there is only thse two names as you see in the verse above 17110

                                Lord
a man who is a member of the nobility, powerful man a man who has considerable power, authority, or influence over others

OK, brother, I was pretty sure you weren't committing shirk, but still, it's a loaded word in English with heavy religious overtones, so why not just say noble, powerful man in the future to avoid confusion? We always need to be very careful with language.

@loxbox13 Thanks for the ayat compilation. Good work.

You missed "Kuma" after "Quloob" brother. "Kuma" is referring to TWO. Same as in 37114-119

                                  37114
                                  37115
                                  37116
                                  37117

                                  37119

37114 And indeed, We have given Our grace to Moses and Aaron.
37115 And We saved them and their people from the great disaster.
37116 And We supported them, so that they became the winners.
37117 And We gave both the clear Book.
37118 And We guided them to the straight path.
37119 And We kept their history for those who came later.

It talks about only two but the problem is in English "Them" and "Their".

I believe that names should not be translated, the above aayat should be like "He is Allah; AlKaaliq, AlBaariu, AlMusawwairu, etc...

?Historians like Vaqqidi have said Allah was actually the chief of the 360 gods being worshipped in Arabia at the time Mohammed rose to prominence. Ibn Al-Kalbi gave 27 names of pre-Islamic deities...Interestingly, not many Muslims want to accept that Allah was already being worshipped at the Ka'ba in Mecca by Arab pagans before Mohammed came. Some Muslims become angry when they are confronted with this fact. But history is not on their side. Pre-Islamic literature has proved this.? (G. J. O. Moshay, Who Is This Allah? (Dorchester House, Bucks, UK, 1994), pg. 13.

                                      What a stupid assertion!!

Qur'aan quotes it that they adopt other miscellaneous gods by imaginative names besides Allah, i.e. in addition to Him.

And when confronted they, the idol worshippers, name only Allah with reference to questions relating to creation etc.
