Salaam, I think this is a typo

2380 And He is the One who gives life and brings death, and to Him is the alteration of the night and the day. Do you not comprehend?

    Alteration instead of alternation.

Bismillahi I think it would be more accurate and appropriate to translate it to With God's name

      http//haqeeqat.pk/02.%20Grammatical%20units/1.gif

These three words, a preposition, a common noun and a Proper Noun constitute the first grammatical unit . It comprises of a Prepositional Phrase + Possessive Phrase.

The first word comprising of a consonant and a vowel is Inseparable Preposition, meaning that it occurs prefixed with its object noun; in Arabic it is called . Prepositions render their object noun in genitive case. The preposition and its object noun constitute what is called a prepositional phrase, in Arabic grammar .

The prepositions used in the Divine Discourse help visually recognize the nouns, effortlessly. The preposition designates contiguity in its broadest sense. It has a wide range of uses including spatiotemporal, instrumental and manner adverbial. It is used for the following purposes

      1. For connectivity;

      2. For assistance; instrument

      3. For making a verb transitive;

      4. For an adverbial meaning;

      5. For accompaniment.

      6. For requital; and

      7. Extraneous; according to a rule for the negated predicate; also in interrogation.

The preposition is evidently for seeking assistance; This phrase in isolation literally means "recourse-beginning-activation-concomitance is with/by a name-code". Initiating a controlled process requires information. And the most fundamental fact about information is that it is itself preceded by the Prime Source Who is but the Living and holding Will. The Divine Discourse concatenates facts in perfect sequence and chronological order. Its first word vividly indicates at the outset about superb concatenation-consistence-contiguity and colligation in the contents of the Book in hand. This is the First scientific fact of the physical world. The creation and for created ones the initiation of the process of learning-knowledge is but the "code/name". The human memory and that of computer can save nothing without knowing or assigning a code/name to a thing-object-phenomenon.

Salaam, I think this is a typo

        Alteration instead of alternation.

        Good detection.

Alteration refers to change in one thing. Alternation is the reciprocal succession of (normally two) things in time or place; the act of following and being followed by turns; alternate succession, performance, or occurrence; as, the alternation of day and night, cold and heat, summer and winter, hope and fear.

Verbal noun is also of Form-VIII. Its Root also has the primary signification

That it signifies the coming or happening of a thing after another thing rising and holding the position and status that was once held by the other one - alternation; secondly it is contra. of past referring future; and thirdly it signifies change.

        Root http//haqeeqat.pk/roots/(410).htm

And He the Exalted causes emergence of life in matter and causes death to alive.

And the alternation of the Night and the Day is for Him the Exalted to manage.

Is it for reason that you do not ponder?use intellect to differentiate?

          Thanks for completing
          I noticed it randomly.

I want also to share a thought on nafs.
I think that, since its primary meaning is "soul", before translating it to "person" we should then consider if another meaning is possible in that context.
          For example

They did not teach anyone until they would say "We are a test, so do not lose faith!" Thus they teach what can separate between a person and his mate; but they cannot harm anyone except with the permission of God.

          2102
What if God meant another thing here?
This piece of the verse is usually understood to mean that they learnt how to separate a man and his wife, but what if what they learnt was to divide any living being from its mate?

O people, be aware of your Lord who has created you from one person and He created from it its mate and sent forth from it many men and many women; and be aware of God whom you ask about, and the relatives. God is Watcher over you.

          41

And He is the One who initiated you from one person; with a place for stability and development. We have explained the signs to a people who understand.

          698

These verses are understood by sectarians to mean that Eve came from the rib of Adam... This translation does the same as most of the traditional translations.
But the verses could also mean that we were initiated from one living being, like a living cell, and from it God made its mate (by dividing the cell).

Correct me if I am wrong in anything, since I don't speak arabic.

              Salam brother,
              Sorry for replying only today.

I see that the meaning of "Soul", which also carries the meaning of "life" is in the lexicon.
              Also we have the following

              Qur'an 3185

              Every soul will taste death

It is not only every person that will die, but every living being (animals, plants, ...).

Salam/Peace everyone. I found a verse that i have noticed something.

The Arabic word lamûsiûna has a emphatic lām prefix & the word mûsiûna grammar's form is masculine plural form IV active nominative noun.

I dont know if this is a mistranslation or not but someone with good Arabic knowledge can help me with this?

                    Salam,

                    3952-53 needs correction.
                    3952 is missing something.

                    3952
Do they not realize that God spreads the provision for whoever He chooses, and withholds? In that are signs for a people who believe

Is the underlined correct in 3953?

                    3953
Say ?O My servants who transgressed against themselves, do not
despair of the mercy of God. For God forgives all sins. He is the
                    Forgiver, the Merciful.?

I wonder why we as muslims still use proper names such as moses, gabriel, pharaoh and so on.

Isn?t it clear from Quran that their names are Musa, Jibril and Firawn?

Please stop using names taken from other than Quran itself, especially from the books that had been twisted and edited by men.

                      May ALLAH forgive us.

I depends on where you are with whom you are talking.

In an englishspeaking Forum it is ok to use Moses to stick with this example as this is whats the englishname is .When you know that you are debatting with a jew it is ok to use Moshe due to respect if you know they are muslims then Musa.

Dont think that People Twisted the names

                        My view

i dont think they are English name. they are taken from Old Testament (OT).

Since the current book of Old Testament has contradictions injected by human led by the devil itself, we should not consider it as a holy book. we should not take any information from it to add up or complete any information we got from Quran under any circumstances, since Quran already state that it is complete. no extra information regarding road of salvation is required.

those names from OT are causing us heavy problems due to

                          1. that is the way they can smuggle the non existing character of Jesus to become Nabi Isa, so that many of us think Nabi Isa is Jesus and vice versa.
                          2. that is the way they smuggle the idea of false long timeline of prophets from Nabi Nuh to Nabi Muhammad by changing the name of Nabi Yakub to Israel, so that we will think that Bani Israil is the descendant of Nabi Yakub.

i dont know if there are more evil agenda other than these 2, but these are already bad enough.

please stop using extra-quranic information when we talk about Quran.

                            peace,

                            FM translation of 2217

They ask you about the sacred month "Is there fighting in it?" Say "MUCH FIGHTING IS IN IT, and to repel from the path of God and to disbelieve in it, and the Sacred Temple, to drive its inhabitants out from it is far greater with God, and persecution is worse than being killed." And they still will fight you until they turn you back from your system if they are able. And whoever of you turns back from his system, and he dies while disbelieving, then these have nullified their works in this world and the next; these are the people of the Fire, in it they will abide!

but this is correct imo ?...say "FIGHTING/KILLING IN IT (IS) BIG/GREAT, and prevention/obstruction from God's path and disbelief with(in) it, and the Masjid the Forbidden/Sacred, and bringing/forcing out its people from it (is) bigger/greater at God, and persecution (is) bigger/greater from the fighting/killing,...?

In this verse the derivatives of root K-B-R come 3 times, and it is clear that the 2nd and 3rd occasions signify a sinful action even though it is not mentioned directly, (i.e. bigger/greater crime/sin). So the first occasion can also interpret in the same way i.e. big/great sin/crime.

Thus fighting/killing in Al Shahr Al Haram is

                            1. great sin
                            2. preventing (people) from God&#039s path
                            3. equivalent to disbelieving in ASAH

                            — To the best of my current understanding (17:36). من الله كل خير ولله الحمد
"O you who have attained to faith! Surrender yourselves wholly unto God ..." [2:208], [3:102]

What is the difference between ism and alqaab?
FM translation of 4911 made both as the same!
I think ism = name and alqaab = insulting nickname(s)

                                from 4911,
"...Nor shall you mock one another, or call each other names; miserable indeed is the name of wickedness after attaining faith. And anyone who does not repent, then these are the transgressors."

Those aren't their real names though. Moses is from Moshe which is a Hebrew version of his Egyptian name which is not known - supposed to be something like Meshitihu meaning to be pulled from the water. He wasn't called Musa in real life.

Isa spoke Aramaic so his name was something like Yeshuah or Yeshu Ha Notzri as he is in the Talmud. (Some people think Jesus is the english pronounciation of Yeshuah but Jesus is actually the anglicised version of the Greek sun god/messiah IESUS.)

Angels don't have a nationality or language so I suppose call them what you want but whats wrong with calling people by their real names.

Agreed. Out of curiosity, how do these types of errors make it into the translation? It seems straight forward that this shouldn't be there.

Thank you. The error has been fixed.

How do they get there? When you translate Arabic, the words give a meaning - sometimes more than just the words written - so, it is a matter of discipline and having checks/balances to make sure that only the words written are the words translated.

This translation has gone through just over a decade of fixes whenever they are noticed - so I would say its very refined.

                                          Salam aleykoum,

                                          Your translation of verse

556 And the stars and the trees are yielding.

Translating l-najmu as "the stars" is a mistake in the context of this sura.

This word also refers to the notion of "stemless plant, grass, herb", which is more correct here.

Certainly, the term al-najm is a difficulty for commentators and translators is it "the star" or "the herbaceous plant" ? The star would be more appropriate in the context of the sun and the moon, quoted in the previous member (5); but what relation would the star have with the tree, which follows immediately in the same verse ? The grass, on the contrary, forms a homogeneous couple of plants with the tree, in parallel with the two stars, the sun and the moon.

                                          God bless you.
