I'm not sure if it's haram because in the following verse in the Quran it states that we should guard our private parts except for our mates. However, I don't understand this part " or those whom their right hands possess". Those that mean it is aloud to masturbate?

The Qur'an, chapter 23 (Al-Muminun), verse 5 to 7

Guarding doesn't mean that you cannot look at it or play with it lmao... rotfl You should guard it against OTHERS, not yourself, its your body, as Meteora once said, if to guard means that way cant i wash it? dirty penis. You can be naked as long as there is nobody to see you, masturbating and other self-play with your body isn't exceeding the limit.

There's not even a single "sahih" hadith that states this. Some sunnis conclude that because Muhammad advised adolescents to fast when they're horny, masturbation falls in the category of forbidden things. This is not true, and I can mention a lot of instances where they don't use this kind of logic. For example Allah telling us to pay alms on the day of harvest/day you get your paycheck but the sunnis have made it once a year. Had they utilized the same logic then giving alms on any day other than when you get your wealth falls in the category of forbidden things, and it's also forbidden not to give alms on the day of harvest anyway.

Most also, not surprisingly misuse the verse telling you who you can have sex with. They think "masturbation" falls in the category of "wara-a zalika" (more than this). What they fail to comprehend is that the verse before it is talking about "gaurding your private parts" and how can you "ungaurd" it by touching or stroking it? You can't gaurd your genitals from yourself. You have to rub it clean in the shower and so on. By gaurding your private part from yourself you'd have one dirty penis.

As a married man I will tell you that almost all married men still masturbate even with a woman in their house. Men tend to have urges far more often than women or at times when women can't have sex or are not available.

Is masturbation haram? I would say it is only haram if you masturbate AND not wash your hands afterwards. This would be disgusting for the rest of the population to shake a man's hand that wasn't cleaned after masturbating. yuck

Obviously only do it when you really need to. If one's faith and remembrance is strong enough to quell all but the more potent urges, that is good. When you do so, you should do it for the sole purpose of release and not for enjoyment. Perhaps if you are married and you think just of your wife... Anyway there is no punishment against it (just like alcohol, it is between the person and Allah (SWT)).

That doesn't mean thinking is haram, im not sure which verse but when i read the Quran one day i saw that after Muhammad's ummah told him that they will go to hell because they can't keep their thinking, an ayah came down that made thinking unaccountable, you don't get accounted for what you think, that verse ment like if you've done a haram(with actions not thinking) and kept it in your mind and you hided it from others, you will still be accounted for it because you cannot hide from Allah.

You are perhaps thinking of verse 2286?

Regardless, the thought is a part of the masturbation, and as a whole it is a deed (because you let yourself think it and encourage yourself via volunteering the act). The companions of the Prophet (SAW) were not worrying about their thoughts during this act were they? In essence you would be giving yourself the desire, and arguably the thought itself (prohibited or not) is what would make the act "lewd".

Finally, we should not judge by ahadith. Find the verse if you can.

What is the acceptable limit of masturbation per day/week/month etc. according to your understanding (considering that you may think of anyone)? I provided my own.
