Masturbation

You are perhaps thinking of verse 2286?
Regardless, the thought is a part of the masturbation, and as a whole it is a deed (because you let yourself think it and encourage yourself via volunteering the act). The companions of the Prophet (SAW) were not worrying about their thoughts during this act were they? In essence you would be giving yourself the desire, and arguably the thought itself (prohibited or not) is what would make the act "lewd".
Finally, we should not judge by ahadith. Find the verse if you can.
AllahHafiz
Nowhere in Quran thinking bad stuff is mentioned to be haram, it is a natural, if it was haram everyone would go to hell, its EXTREMELY hard trying to not think about haram, and you're alone there in a room, if you're close to "lewdness" what are you gonna do? Have sex with the couch?

Two comments
1.) Notice that almost all the comments are from men? o I am sure women masturbate too. o The sex toy industry (which is in the billions) counts on those women. o
2.) If it were explicitly haram then the Quran would say so, explicitly. For example, pork is haram because it explicitly says don't eat it. However masturbation is already associated with a lot of guilt for many reasons. But I don't think it is haram. Besides it can serve a good purpose. It can keep you from becoming so frustrated that you lash out at people or take desires too far. I guess some people think that masturbation increases your desire to do something haram. I think masturbation reduces those desires since you have an outlet for those desires. And as an added benefit it harms no one.
In Judaism any thoughts are not a sin. Only carrying out those thoughts may be sinful, but the thought is not a sin. And if it doesn't hurt anyone or cause any loss to anyone I can't imagine Allah would have it high on his list of sins. Besides if it were on the top of the list of sins, then the Quran would explicitly say it.
Just my thoughts.

Although I am unsure where you found the 1 week in the Qur'an?
If thinking is not an accountable action, are hypocrites/pretenders going to Heaven?
Peace.
Thats a different case, you see, hypocrites and pretenders have the intention to damage a particular thing, but most persons get horny and its a natural thing so thinking about it is not haram, its your fantasies.

Salam all
alhamdulillah to be back. Layth thank you for resetting my password.
Now to the issue on masturbation.
You really can't find any verse that says in no uncertain tems that masturbation is forbidden, but we should be guided by al qur'an's 2187
2187 It has been made lawful for you during the night of fasting to
approach your women sexually. They are a garment for you and
you are a garment for them. God knows that you used to betray
your souls so He has accepted your repentance, and forgiven you;
now you may approach them and seek what God has written for
you. And you may eat and drink until the white thread is distinct
from the black thread of dawn; then you shall complete the fast
until night; and do not approach them while you are devoted in
the temples. These are the boundaries of God, so do not transgress
them. It is thus that God clarifies His revelations to the people
who they may be righteous.I'd like to draw your attention to the line "now you may approach them and seek what God has written for
you."Isn't it clear and detailed enough that God wants us to approach our wife to seek what He has written for us?
Doesn't it breeds hypocrisy towards this verse (thus towards God) if one uses a condom, have sex with one's pregnant wife, have anal sex, and/or masturbate? Perhaps, I don't need to add having sex with animals because clearly sexual intercourse is for procreation. Masturbation does not serve procreation.
But what about those who are single? Let us hear and obey God
2432 And marry off those among you that are single, and the good
from among your male and female servants. If they are poor, then
God will grant them from His grace. And God is Encompassing,
Knowledgeable.
2433 And let those who are not able to marry continue to be chaste
until God enriches them of His Bounty. And if those who are
maintained by your oaths seek to consummate the marriage, then
document it with them if you find that they are ready, and give
them from the wealth of God which He has bestowed upon you.
And do not force your young women to need if they have desired
to be independent, in order that you may make a gain in the goods
of this worldly life. And if anyone has compelled them, then for
their compulsion, God is Forgiving, Merciful.I have underlined the line that matters.
Indeed, salat and patience is the key.
244 Do you exhort the people to do good, but forget yourselves, while
you are reciting the Book? Do you not comprehend?
245 And seek help through patience and through the salat.
It is a difficult thing, but not so for the humble.

Him they will return.Ramon

Masturbating is not discontinuing to be chaste. And the verse about wifes was that you can approach them after you got "married" to them, there's no point for masturbating to be haram unless you overdo it and damage your body by loosing zinc. And salat cant solve everything, anyway masturbating isn't haram, infact in my opinion is halal because it removes your horniness, its also part of your body, you can do anything with it as long as you don't damage it for a reason or show it to others that aren't your spouse. Argue to seek the truth, not just for the sake of argument, using verses that have nothing to do with this case.

With all respect I do not think any serious Muslim will take this seriously. Firstly you cannot justify why you picked once per week as the minimum rate of masturbation, secondly you are saying that intentional lewd thoughts with people to whom you have no relation are not haram and thirdly you are saying that not only is masturbation for the sake of pleasure not haram, it is halal. Please read the first ayah that I posted again and tell me seriously that masturbation and not only that but with intentional carnal thoughts is not prohibited? Unintentional and brief thoughts are forgiveable, but intentional carnal thoughts which can otherwise be quelled by salaat and REMEMBRANCE OF ALLAH (SWT) are not in any way Islamic (nor have you provided any proof).
You say hypocrites are different, but Allah (SWT) warns us against being sluggish in prayer and I see no difference between being sluggish in avoiding what you label halal (i.e. masturbation) and that.
Finally you agreed that we should only do it when when we absolutely have to, but unless you can justify why one week is allowable, there is no argument.
...
Salaam.

Give me the verse where masturbation is prohibited? IF it isnt prohibited in Quran its not haram, and i said once in 2 weeks, because i saw in a place scientists say so and naturally in wed dreams you get 1 in 2 weeks, and it can be done for pleasure its no harm to anyone and no reason to be haram.

This is the first verse you posted i think
"Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is Allah's; and whether you manifest what is in your minds or hide it, Allah will call you to account according to it; then He will forgive whom He pleases and chastise whom He pleases, and Allah has power over all things."
2284
Ill give you an example of this
Guy number 1 kills Guy number 2, but nobody knows that he did it except himself and Allah, so he is hiding it from others on his mind, he knows he did it, but he will get accounted for it because Allah knows everything, whats in hearts and ALL, EVERYTHING. That in no freaking way means fantasies are haram. If you're really still thinking different you must be clearly freaking stupid, anyway im done with this topic, its making me mad talking to someone who cant even logic well also there are other Masturbation topics clarified why masturbation isn't haram. And a tip do not prohibit what Allah hasn't and logic a little, don't argue just because you want to win in the end. I'm tired and frustrated explaining that imaginations aren't haram but the act, OOOH, just a sec... if i imagine myself doing good deeds for 300 years will that count!?!??!? Just the thought that thoughts are haram is stupid, nonsense and baseless, I'm suprised how can anyone be so hardcore to think that, this is more hardcore then salafi opinions about what is haram and halal and obligatory. I've also seen in one place that people think once in 15 seconds about sex, in that case we're all doomed to hell, nobody can control his thought, its preety hard to. You seem nice and all i just find that the idea of thinking to be haram very lame.
Peace.

(and not content to just remain silent, no, she has to come back to add) - whether they think it's to be avoided or not bet there isn't one Muslim man who doesn't do it. Sorry if that's rude (conscience). But seriously I have been told again and again that you 'can't' do it - then what is everyone doing when they aren't married? (rhetorical...don't answer).
Kaiokenred "no harm to anyone and no reason to be haram"...gotta love commonsense

Except for the fact that the Qur'an forbids all lewd acts whether open or in secret. Secret ones don't hurt anyone either. There is no harm in someone being Buddhist after rejecting the Qur'an so no reason to be haram. We must remember the point of this discussion.

All are welcome to define "lewd" for self; the definition will not satisfy others. Couldn't it be considered wrong to (attempt to) impose personal values on others and pass them off as Divine Guidance? hmm

Just like Sis Rana, I was going to remain silent. But pretending this discussion isn?t happening will not do good to my conscience S.
I?ll put a disclaimer first that I neither encourage nor discourage masturbation. As a woman, I don?t feel the urge as much and as often as men do. Personally I can do without it (as the thoughts can be shunned by perving at awesome houses on sale or sweet treats online ). Anyway, I can understand that men experience much greater sexual urge than women, and hence masturbate. So I will not scream ?haraam, Brothers!? to all the masturbating men because I am ignorant of their biological and sexual design, and what they have to go through.
In an essence, it is true that masturbation is not singled out and explicitly forbidden in the Qur?an. That can be used as an argument allowing masturbation. On the other hand, the verses about lewd thoughts and guarding private parts can be used to argue against it. It?s up to your interpretation, I guess. Bear in mind however, that the absence of prohibition on certain acts does not mean that these acts are encouraged by the Qur?an. The Qur?an will be tedious if it mentions every single thing that we humans are not supposed to do. Instead, it gives us a broad guideline in which we exercise our wisdom to understand what we can or cannot do. Raping or owning slaves are not explicitly singled out and forbidden in the Qur?an (to my knowledge anyway). But we understand that raping falls under oppression and that owning slaves goes against the commandment to free the slaves, so we know what to do. Human flesh isn?t explicitly labelled as unlawful either, but we know that meat of dead animals, as well as slaughtering human beings is are forbidden (the only two ways we can eat human).
The issue of masturbation depends whether one views that it falls under lewd acts or not. If two parties have different views, then it?s a lost debate for eternity. It seems like it is going down that path anyway. That being said, I think it?s a matter of whether the positive outweighs the negative. If someone has a strong urge and cannot control their sexuality, perhaps masturbation will provide a quick solution, so they won?t engage in fornication, or worse, rape. If someone can control the urge by remembering God and doing social works, then leave masturbation. Anyway, a few things to consider regarding masturbation, well, from most men that I talk to, they do it while having indecent thoughts on women (or men if homosexual). Thoughts that tend to sexually objectify women. If you masturbate by having such thoughts, then consider if they are acceptable. By the way, thoughts or intentions do matter. If your perform righteous deeds with the wrong intentions, then they may not be accepted.
In conclusion, I won?t say masturbation is 100% prohibited, but there is a better alternative if you can control the sexual urge. Anyway, there are better things in life, and more crucial events in the world, to worry about. Masturbation is one of the those sitting at the bottom of the list that we should be arguing about ).
-
Unless you take guard you private parts to mean abstain from masturbation, then i don't think there are any other verses that prohibit the act. Someone can do it as much as they want provided that they don't transgress. It may be transgressive for me to masturbate 5 times a week but not for someone else. I don't know i guess you just sense when your over indulging in something.
Personally i'm against the act but i can't see any explicit restrictions on the act. For sure I am against the use of the mind. To use someone you know in a fantasy or imagination is clearly wrong and worst than porn. What if that person you are lusting after does not want you to think of them in that way? Say you were some genius CGI designer and you could recreate an accurate represenetation of someone you have a crush on in some kind of sexual CGI clip. Would that be sinless in your opnion?
If someone does choose to masturbate, i reckon they should do so with a pure mind and a pure sight. Contrary to what some people claim (this is not doable) I know this is doable from experience. If someone feel it undoable, then i think if they completely abstain from masturbation say for like 3 weeks or more, then it will be the case that they will feel it doable
-
In conclusion, I won?t say masturbation is 100% prohibited, but there is a better alternative if you can control the sexual urge.
So the verdict is the obvious fact that it is better not to if we don't absolutely have to (which was my original point). The attitude which leads one to scream that it is not haram because it is not explicitly in the Qur'an is why Sunnis still laugh at us. There is nevertheless no punishment, but like alcohol it does not make it halal!
As a side-note, raping slaves is prohibited in the Qur'an
?And let those who do not find the means to marry keep chaste until Allah makes them free from want out of His grace??
2433
The context concerns slaves.
Peace.

All are welcome to define "lewd" for self; the definition will not satisfy others. Couldn't it be considered wrong to (attempt to) impose personal values on others and pass them off as Divine Guidance? hmm
peace
All are welcome to define Allah (SWT) according to their whims. We can all also define any word the way we want and call ourselves Qur'an-alone Muslims. As I mentioned earlier, masturbation as a lewd act is when you do it when you don't have to, when you think about people with whom you are not married and when you think simple dirty thoughts and enjoy it. Adultery is forbidden so it is in the same category as a lewd act.
"And go not nigh to fornication; surely it is an indecency and an evil way."
1732
Thinking about it voluntarily is enjoying and welcoming the act.
Finally, "imposing personal values" is quite separate from drawing obvious conclusions from obvious principles.
Peace.

Is there any chance you can give a link for this so that i can check it out for my self? It sounds interesting. But if its something you came across along time ago and don't have the link in hand, then no worries.
I stopped masturbating for 2 years (though i am again doing it) and in total i think i had like a maximum of 5 or 6 wet dreams during that two year abstince (i was about 18 then). From experience i think once your body gets the discipline, the urge is lessened. So I think once someone goes past three months of abstinence, it becomes easy and you very rarely end up getting wet dreams. I masturbate like once a week or every two weeks as i feel that that is naturally best. Although i am reconsidering just being completely abstinent again....
