but i really wanna know,,is it really prohibited for muslim women to marry non muslim guy??
what are we going to do if we really love each other ...hope you can help me..thanks -
You talk like a Sunni. Most people here are not Sunnis so don't expect a Sunni reply.
I do not see Islam as a religion. I see it more like a attitude towards Everything in life. Hence you can marry anyone whether he calls himself a Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Jew or whatever. Just make sure that he does good deeds, that he is a good human being who respect to others and you.
Please refer to surah Baqra 2221 which states that you shall not marry a mushrik. In other words if a "Muslim" boy is a mushrik you cannt marry him but if a Jewish boy isn't a mushrik you are free to Marry him.
Hope that helps. May god guide us all.

Peace,
Maha, I thought a believer can only marry a believer and he/she is prohibited from marrying a non-believer.
Can someone please shed some light onto this.
Regards

what are we going to do if we really love each other ( ...hope you can help me..thanksI was just thinking about this myself earlier... If I got married further down the line (I am currently in the process of divorce) how in the world would I find a Muslim man who doesn't follow hadith? We seem so far and few between from what I have gathered.
Maha has a great point, though. You are probably going along with the Sunni teaching which is that a Muslim woman can only marry a Muslim man. What is the definition of a Muslim...what does the word mean? I was taught "One who submits to the will of God." When I look at it that way, I see things in a totally different light. If I look at it the mainstream Islam way, I get "One who believes in and follows the teachings of the Prophet Muhammed." I now believe that is not what makes one a Muslim, although I do believe that one must accept him as a Prophet and the one to which the Qu'ran was revealed.
I personally would marry someone who shares the same faith as I, to avoid any kind of cultural clashes down the line. But Allah (swt) knows best.

And do not marry the female polytheists until they believe. For
a believing female servant is better than a polytheist even if she
attracts you. And do not marry the male polytheists until they
believe. For a believing male servant is better than a polytheist
even if he attracts you. Those invite to the Fire, while God is
inviting to the Paradise and forgiveness by His consent. He
clarifies His revelations for the people that they may remember.I know of Christians who don't believe that Jesus is son of God. They are called Unitarians.

A believer is human like everyone else with postive and negative traits. A clash of culture and a difference in approach may often cause problems, but if both parties accept each other as they are and do not feel disappointed because the other person did not filful their expectations/dreams than good can come out of relationship where both partners are believers.
Sadly when there is a problem people tend to look only at the other's bad traits allowing these to overshadow the many good points the other person may have. The right way is to focus on the positive qualities in the person with whom you have a quarrel and evaluate if that person really is as bad as you think. Doing so you may soon see that person in a different light4134 Nor can goodness and Evil be equal. Repel (Evil) with what is better Then will he between whom and thee was hatred become as it were thy friend and intimate!

Careful there cause I believe the definition of Unitarian is more someone who doesn't accept Jesus AS God or part of the trinity as they believe "unity". I know a bunch like that but they still give Jesus the title of "Son of God" even though they don't consider him God and more like a high end messenger with such a title in regards to relationship but thats as far as it goes for them.

what are we going to do if we really love each other ( ...hope you can help me..thanksIt is not part of the Deen to marry a polytheist, but it is okay to marry a monotheist--provided that the monotheist is not otherwise unlawful. Islam has no monopoly on monotheism--there are monotheists in most all religions/systems of belief. Marry a monotheist!
Interfaith relationships DO have challenges that one should be familiar with. What happens if your partner goes "full retard" with their beliefs? How will holidays be handled? How will children be raised? Are there differences in diet? Does either partner lose family support because of the marriage? A good internet search engine can bring up many of these issues--and possible solutions. The issues are not insurmountable, ISA.
2136 Say "We believe in GOD and in what was sent down to us and what was sent down to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and what was given to Moses and Jesus, and what was given to the prophets from their Lord; we do not make a distinction between any of them and to Him we submit."
55 Today, the good things have been made lawful to you, and the food of those who have been given the Book is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them; and the independent females from those who are believers, and the independent females from those who have been given the Book before you, if you have given them their dowries, to be independent, not for illicit sex or taking lovers. And whoever rejects belief, then his work has fallen, and in the Hereafter he is of the losers.
16116 And do not say, as to what your tongues falsely describe "This is lawful, and that is forbidden;" that you seek to invent lies about GOD. Those who invent lies about GOD will not succeed.
ALLAH knows best.
peace

Personally, I wouldn't marry a non-Muslim, even if she was a monotheist. I mean I wouldn't take the risk and just don't see any reason to marry a non-Muslim. But then, I don't want to marry anyone.. maybe when I'm 50 or older, I'm 36 now. Way too young to marry, lol.

Yeah but your options are traditionalists which are overwhelmingly tough to deal with if utterly religious with all their hadiths.

Salaam,
I agree with recluse, this is because the life after marriage will not be same as it is now . It gonna be change totally. I am saying this all based on my own personal experiences. Its not that easy how we think, there will be many new issues taking birth everyday, so be careful.
Unfortunately, I saw quote of 2221 without pointing out what exactly is the message in it.
2221
2221 And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe. And a believing slave woman is better than a polytheist, even though she might please you. And do not marry polytheistic men until they believe. And a believing slave is better than a polytheist, even though he might please you. Those invite to the Fire, but Allah invites to Paradise and to forgiveness, by His permission. And He makes clear His verses to the people that perhaps they may remember.Points to be taken into consideration from the above aayat

Do Not marry polytheistic men .
-
And a believing slave is better than a polytheist .
-
Even though he might please be a wonder to you. .
-
Those are the ones who invite you to the fire .
-
Allah made his aayaats clear for those who remember .
If he agree to accept what you believe and become a believer , then surely you can marry him. I suggest, don't give importance to a guy over the path of Allah. Just a suggestion, you can throw it away if you don't like.
May Allah increase us in knowledge and guide us to His true path pr

You all seem to take it for granted heiwanakokorotos guy is a polytheist and that he thinks his religion is better than islam..........
Maybe he is agnostic, atheist or whatever........The truth is that only men have rulings to follow in the Quran as to what faith his wife must belong to.

Emil, did you see 2221?
Believers are forbidden TOTALLY to marry a.) mushriks (idolaters) and b.) kaffirs (rejectors). There is no exemption under any single circumstance whatsoever, male or female is totally irrelevant. If people wish to believe otherwise then they can take the pain. The sunni practice of allowing men to marry disbelieving women is clearly prohibited in the quran. Keeping in mind a 'kafir' is by definition an enemy to God. Does it make sense to marry your enemy?

She is talking like a Sunni. She should see if this guy believes in God and is a person of good character and responsible enough to be commited. Not what religion he belongs to.

And chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you, when you have given them their due compensation, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse or taking lovers. Great, so the majority of people in this world are our enemies? This sort of rigid thinking among people of faith is the reason that people do not take religion/faith seriously anymore in many parts of the world.
The only reason I can think of having Muslims marry only muslims, is either to increase the number count of muslims or to keep citizens loyal to the specified Church - both of which are good measures to keep people under control. There are differences towards the definition and context given to the word Kafir.
Personally, I think it's perfectly fine to engage in a relation/marriage with an atheist/agnostic. Unlike religious people, they're less likely to inject fundamental or dogmatic ideas into their kids' heads and more likely to respect their children's choices when older unlike many religious people (for example, converting, pre martial relationships, praying etc)

mmKhanThat is because the Quran forbids marrying an adulterer. The question is what defines a believer. Anyone who believes in God and the here after is a believer regardless of what religious community he belongs to. All monotheist are by definition believers.
