a muslim gurl whos having a secret relationship with a non-muslim guy

Great, so the majority of people in this world are our enemies? This sort of rigid thinking among people of faith is the reason that people do not take religion/faith seriously anymore in many parts of the world.
The only reason I can think of having Muslims marry only muslims, is either to increase the number count of muslims or to keep citizens loyal to the specified Church - both of which are good measures to keep people under control. There are differences towards the definition and context given to the word Kafir.
Personally, I think it's perfectly fine to engage in a relation/marriage with an atheist/agnostic. Unlike religious people, they're less likely to inject fundamental or dogmatic ideas into their kids' heads and more likely to respect their children's choices when older unlike many religious people (for example, converting, pre martial relationships, praying etc)
If that's what you wish to read into my post I advise you to read the verses about marriage, guardianship and loving those who do not love you. Bigmo put it fairly eloquently, a "muslim" is any body who submits themselves to the singular god irrespective of faith/denomination. If the majority of humans choose to turn against their creator then they have made their choice and will reap the fruits of their choices; as an intelligent believer one seeks the truth, not the opinions of the herd. To the contrary, the dating pool is very large - if not the majority of humans then assuredly a large minority.
The fundamental rules do not take for a guardian, lover, protector, anyone who antagonises God. Because they are God's enemy and if your allegiance is with God as you may claim then they are 100% your enemy. God's knowledge encompasses all His creation so any enemy of God a believer would do very well to avoid extending a loving hand towards - the enemy of your fallible human friend might be good to you but the enemy of your all-knowing friend can never be good for you. On the judgement day this simple fact will be clear as daylight to all.
The purpose of truth-seekers marrying each other is to create a robust and reinforced family structure where both parties are loyal to God and in being loyal to God are intrinsically loyal to each other. It is to minimise harm (e.g. jealousy, suspicion, lying, fundamental disagreements, cheating, wealth stability, accountability, etc) and present a stable platform for children to be raised in a loving environment. Such an arrangement maximises the ability for spouses to put their full trust in each other. A partner who does not share a godly worldview is always going to be far more volatile purely because there will be aspects of each other's realities that neither party can understand. Without fully intimate understanding, how can you fully trust your partner? Can an atheist take a believer seriously or vice versa, with the strong belief that their partner's life is based entirely on an evil deceptive lie?
-
Emil, did you see 2221?
Believers are forbidden TOTALLY to marry a.) mushriks (idolaters) and b.) kaffirs (rejectors). There is no exemption under any single circumstance whatsoever, male or female is totally irrelevant. If people wish to believe otherwise then they can take the pain. The sunni practice of allowing men to marry disbelieving women is clearly prohibited in the quran. Keeping in mind a 'kafir' is by definition an enemy to God. Does it make sense to marry your enemy?
IAMOP did you see my post?
Maybe the guy is NOT a polytheist or a kaffir. That is what I said. If you would include atheist under kaffir you are very very wrong and if you include agnostic under polytheist you are very very wrong.....And yeah BTW, the verse is directed to men, not to marry off their daughters to idol worshippers.
And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe. And a believing slave woman is better than a polytheist, even though she might please you. And do not marry polytheistic men until they believe. And a believing slave is better than a polytheist, even though he might please you. Well, what do you mean by someone who "antagonises" God? One could interpret that as someone who militantly opposes and ridicules the existence of Allah while another (for example you) may interpret it as those who are non believers or skeptical despite their good values. Most non-believers I know are open-minded folk who do a lot of good whether that would be giving charity or helping a friend in need. That doesn't sound like an "enemy" of God to me.
But this all can be achieved regardless of faith. You don't need to be a muslim or a believer in God in order to be loyal to your partner and live a good life together. All of these thoughts are your own assumptions and not fact.
You say it's fine to marry any monotheist. But surely this would create more problems in marriage than marrying a non believer - get married to a sunni or an orthodox Jew and several problems could arise in marriage, but hey it's fine because these people are monotheists and thats all that supposedly matters. I'm not saying it's not fine to marry a sunni or a person of any other sectarian belief - it's fine as long as both parties respect the beliefs of others and acknowledge any differences that may arise but the same applies to everyone else including non-believers.
So what constitutes an "enemy" of God? Some would go as far as saying those who corrupt the words of Allah and others would say those who partake in bad deeds. Personally i think the term "enemy of God" doesn't make sense.
-
^ An enemy of God is one who casts their ballot in other than the party of God; who exceeds the clear limits set by God (see 6151). You might think that these people are moderate outwardly but God knows fully the deepest thoughts of all. In day to day life everyone is peaceable. It's what goes on behind closed doors where we see all the atrocities come out. Something tells me you're new to seeing the quran sans hadeeth. Few people here live in a world defined by manmade labels like "sunni" or "orthodox". Blind monotheism is not the same as truth seeking; a kaffir is simply one that conceals/obscures the truth.
Emil Maybe the guy is not either polytheist or kaffir. Then he would be either a person of the book or a believer and in both cases he would be a muslim. Then it would be perfectly fine to marry.
Are we not all agnostics until God directs us to certitude? If you would not include atheists under 'kaffir' then I think you need to read the quran again. What book are you reading where it's OK for a creation of the supreme to not only totally disregard its commands but then to say "my rabb doesn't exist"? That is the textbook kaffir. If you mean someone who follows the scientific method as is the common conflation of the term 'atheist''; and as yet is misguided then they are not a kaffir but nor are they an atheist. Atheism is a positive claim of a negative statement.
As for the verse directing men not to marry, let's take one simple look at it. What does God want to create by issuing that command? Clearly the reality He wishes us to form is one where women do not marry polytheists. It does not matter if the command is to the women. If I tell one group of guys not to cross the road with their daughters at a green light so they don't get flattened by a truck, are you going to say "yeah if you're a single female without your father cross the road but if you're with him, don't"? You would have missed the wisdom behind the commandment which is to protect the females from being swept off the straight path.
5822 - "You will not find any people who believe in God and the Last Day love those who oppose God and His messenger, even if they were their parents, or their children, or their siblings, or their tribe. (truncated)

I can't say I'm convinced. Most non-believers don't believe in God for legitimate reasons. And no, I'm not new to the idea of Quran Alone, I've known it for over a year. Before that I was a Sunni for the majority of my life. Again, what you perceive as truth, someone else may perceive to be false.

Further references 3118, 923, 601Perhaps this refers to the Arabs of the 7th century? Times have changed now and most people don't "oppose" God, at least not in the way pagan Arabs did in Mohammad's time.

a kaffir is simply one that conceals/obscures the truth
Salam IAMOP
Yes exactly, in order to conceal the truth one must believe it is true, otherwise there is no need to conceal it. So in other words someone who believes in God but chooses not to believe in God AND hides the truth from others. How on earth did you include aethism into that category? An atheist is simply someone who doesnt believe in God, someone who has not been enlightened, not someone who understands and choose not believe.
As for the verse directing men not to marry, let's take one simple look at it. What does God want to create by issuing that command? You would have missed the wisdom behind the commandment which is to protect the females from being swept off the straight path.
If a sign says "parents are responsible for their children" it is the parents obligation to look after the kids. If Allah tells you not to marry off your daughter to a polytheist you have an obligation to not do that And do not marry polytheistic men until they believe. You, man, are not allowed to marry off the believing women. It is clearly directed to you. Maybe you have missed the wisdom in the commandment that men are idiots and would marry off their daughters to gain personally, they would even go so far as to not care if the man is an idol worshipper as long as the father/protector gains from it. Maybe you have missed the wisdom in the commandment that if it is was up to the woman to whom she marries, then Allah trusts her to make the right decision, thus no reason to tell her not to marry a polytheist.

How exactly does someone submit to the singular god. Different religions define gods in different ways and have different laws, rituals, and dogmas. This is just a vague cop out to try and reconcile the tribal roots of the Abrahamic religions. I admire your willingness to think for yourself and assimilate into the 21st century, but one cannot believe in your description without ignoring significant portions of the Qur'an.
First off you must define the singular god and then you must define how exactly one submits to this god regardless of their faith/denomination.
The fundamental rules do not take for a guardian, lover, protector, anyone who antagonises God. Because they are God's enemy and if your allegiance is with God as you may claim then they are 100% your enemy. Once again you must define God. If your God really transcends the Qur'an and transcends religious sects and denominations then that means that scripture and interpretation of scripture isn't necessary for submission.
A Christian whose all-knowing friend is Jesus may see the Muslims as an enemy because they lack faith in Christ and his ressurection and thus cannot attain salvation.

How do you reconcile all the tribal roots of the Abrahamic religions? ( And how do you submit to HIM?)
364 Say? O followers of the scripture ( all the religions out there that follow a scripture!), let us come to a logical agreement between us (loyalists to GOD ALONE) and you? That we never worship except GOD; That we never set up any idols beside HIM, nor set up any human beings ( Prophets/ Messiah/Religious leaders, Scholars, etc?.) as lords beside GOD.? If they turn away, say? Bear witness that we are submitters. ( Totally loyal to GOD ALONE)?
( Does your religion have Abraham , Some Jewish prophets, other messengers?)
367 Abraham ( and other prophets/messengers and believers) was neither Jewish nor Christian. ( nor traditional Muslim nor Shinto nor any other religion you can name .) He was a Monotheist submitter.( Totally loyal to GOD ALONE) He never was an idol Worshipper.?
368 The people most worthy of Abraham are those who follow his example ( like the prophets/ messengers, believers) and this prophet and those who truly believe. GOD is the (only) Lord and Master of the believers.?
371 O followers of the scripture, why do you confound the truth with falsehood and conceal the truth, knowingly??
383 Are you seeking other than GOD s religion, when everything in the heavens and the earth have submitted to HIM,willingly and unwillingly and to HIM you all be returned??
385 Anyone who accepts other than submission ( and total loyalty to GOD ALONE) , it will not be accepted from him and in the hereafter, he will be with the losers.?
Peace.

So I should be like Abraham? Which means I don't need Bible or Qur'an? Okay I'm waiting for God to reveal Himself to me without scripture. I'll let you know when he arrives.
371 O followers of the scripture, why do you confound the truth with falsehood and conceal the truth, knowingly?
I have this same question! Followers of the scripture why do you confound the truth with falsehood?!
383 Are you seeking other than GOD s religion, when everything in the heavens and the earth have submitted to HIM,willingly and unwillingly and to HIM you all be returned?
I am seeking truth. If submission to God is not based on truth then I am not seeking it. I will not submit to a being who probably doesn't exist.
385 Anyone who accepts other than submission ( and total loyalty to GOD ALONE) , it will not be accepted from him and in the hereafter, he will be with the losers.
But 383 said that we will all be returned to God. Does this mean the successful and the losers will be in the same place?
Also if everything in the heavens and the earth submits to God willingly and unwillingly and submission is the only way that is accepted then it doesn't matter if I believe in God because I'm submitting whether I know it or not! If we all submit willingly and unwillingly then doesn't that mean God will accept all of us?
Peace.
Likewise.

It is all the religions
22 17 ? Those who believe, those who are Jewish, the Converts ( to any religion), the Christians, the Zoroastrians ( and any name you wish to give to man s religion) and the idol worshippers ( and the Muslims, Hindus, the thousands of religious sects, the disbelievers, the Atheists, etc?) GOD is the one who will judge among them on the day of Resurrection. GOD witnesses all things.?This also answers (383)
Those who accepted the " freedom of choice" have to decide . It is better if they submit willingly.

Can you respond to my other points and also name which translation of the Qur'an you're using to cite these verses?
-
Peace Faithful-Jinn.
I do not use any specific translation. I compare most translations.
I believe strongly that only GOD explains the Qoran.
I will not respond to points where you have to make your own decision, like believe in GOD or believe in Qoran etc..
It is up to you. I support the fact that you are seeking answers.
I wish you luck and success with your search.

You didn't respond to my question about where winners and losers will go if the Qur'an says we all return to God. Is God in hell too?
Also if we all will be accepted who cares what we believe?
Back on topic though, according to the Qur'an a woman should not be with a non-Muslim man. Now if this bothers you, you can just redefine what you understand as a "Muslim" and the problem is solved. If only God decides who is "Muslim" and who isn't then marry whoever you want!
If you want to take the orthodox interpretation though it means someone who believes in Allah and Muhammad as his messenger, angels, prophets, and Judgment Day. Like other religions, Islam can be very divisive and counter-intuitive to the unity and equality of human beings. But Allah knows best.

I hope you take some time to browse.
Please do come back to asking me questions if you do not get anywhere.

So you think that you are the one who judge who Is Muslim and who isn't and not god?
Can you tell me where Quran says that a Muslim woman can only marry a Muslim man? Can you also tell me if ahmadis and Baha'is are muslims or alawis? Or is it only shia and Sunnis who are Muslims according to you? Since its you who defines who a Muslim is and not god can you please tell me if a person consider himself half Hindu and half Sunni , is he a Muslim ?

Aren't we defensive?
I didn't say I decided anything. I personally don't give a damn who anyone marries.
I'm simply saying depending on which definition you want to define Muslim as then that will decide your decision. If you want to go by the allegorical and more spiritual definition of anyone who submits to God and you think this definition transcends religion, then marry whoever you want.
If you want to go by the standard cultural definition as someone who believes in the Allah and the Qur'an and that Muhammad is His messenger then women marrying non-Muslims is forbidden.
Do not marry unbelieving women (idolaters), until they believe A slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman, even though she allures you. Nor marry (your girls) to unbelievers until they believe A man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though he allures you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the Fire. But Allah beckons by His Grace to the Garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and makes His Signs clear to mankind That they may celebrate His praise.(2221)
The exception given to men in verse 55 does not extend to women.
This day are (all) things good and pure made lawful unto you. The food of the People of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them. (Lawful unto you in marriage) are (not only) chaste women who are believers, but chaste women among the People of the Book, revealed before your time,- when ye give them their due dowers, and desire chastity, not lewdness, nor secret intrigues if any one rejects faith, fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good).(55)
As for Bah'ais and Ahmadis and Sunni and Shia that's between you and your God. I couldn't care less.

The sects bellieve that marrying other monotheist is allowed for men has to do with religious identity being determined by the father. This has no basis in the Quran where your identity is determined by you. Whats funny is the sects still consider non Muslim monotheist as kuffar but can marry their women. I think ths practice has its root in tribal societies where its ok for a man to marry oitside the tribe but not the women. Since the sects have sex slaves also, they probably see women as subhuman so they probably couldn't care less whats her faith as long as she is young and healthy for them to enjoy and get served by.
Plus the sects abrogated the verses in the Quran that says
2.62] Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve.
Not all of them are alike; a party of the people of the Scripture stand for the right, they recite the Verses of God during the hours of the night, prostrating themselves in prayer. They believe in God and the Last Day; they enjoin Al-Ma'r?f and forbid Al-Munkar ; and they hasten in (all) good works; and they are among the righteous. And whatever good they do, nothing will be rejected of them; for God knows well those who are Al-Muttaq?n .(3113-115)
And there are, certainly, among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), those who believe in God and in that which has been revealed to you, and in that which has been revealed to them, humbling themselves before God. They do not sell the Verses of God for a little price, for them is a reward with their Lord. Surely, God is Swift in account. '(3199)'
The Quran does not recognize religious identity as much as it recognizes faith. Either you believe in God or you don't. In the Quran a Muslim is a description.

Salaam,
I am sorry to disagree with the highlighted part above. It was in brackets "to your women", it is not in aayat.
Kafirs are not mentioned in 2221, agreed but Mushriks are already by default kafirs, here it is..
Kafir is opposite of Momin.
Momin = one who accepts/agree with .
Kafir = one who don't accept/agree with .Mushriks, they do shirk because they don't believe in what Allah said, so they are already kafirs.
May Allah increase us in knowledge and guide us to His true path pr

As far as I know, so long as he has a good character (is morally strong and beneficient and also rational) , he is a submitter. The Quran in my opinion aids in our understanding/speed of progress with regards to morality.
For example there is a verse that conveys don't despair nor grow exultant. This was beneficial to my moral development and I would not have got to this as quick as I did had I not had access to the scripture. This one statement applies to so many aspects in life when you apply it.Absolutely nothing wrong with the relationship in my opinion. How else are you going to effectively find out if he is marriage material for you...
4913 O people, We created you from a male and female, and We made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Surely, the most honorable among you in the sight of God is the most righteous. God is Knowledgeable, Expert.
Godwilling you'l do what is best
