Ramadhan: 30 days in 365 days ! not one consecutive month !
-
Dear brothers,
According to sura al Bakara, verse 185 , Allah selects and sends down His wahi upon all the believers, for a minimum of 30 days every year so that they haply perceive 1) His Guidance and 2) His Signs to perch them firmly upon 3) the Criterion, which three altogether constitute the Quran - that we clearly have the Wisdom and see the Straight Way, the Siratun Mustaqeem.
Such days for His Revelations on who He wishes to; and, when and where He wishes to send down, are chosen judiciously and on appointed days, exclusively by Allah. It is not that all people receive His wahi for one whole month consecutively, at the sight of new moon that too based on the calendar month of ramadhan that the people devised. Every year for 30 days Allah has promised us that He sends down on us HIS Grace as Wahi, having the 3 entities such as 1. the Guidance ; 2. the Signs, and 3. the Criterion that perches us firmly on the Siratun Mustaqeem, which means The Sure Way to Heaven.
So, whosoever reaches or witnesses the appointed time on the day determined, they receive the wahi, which shall make their belief stronger in the Straight Way. As a reward they have a blissful life, free from fear or worry for a term fixed. In order that they are grateful to Allah for what He has sent down upon them, it is ordained upon them that they fast on that day and behave thereafter, having fear for Allah
Such 30 days are prescribed for every one, every year! Incase we are on travel or down with sickness at the time of receiving His Wahi, we shall count such days for fasting on later days when we become normal and healthy.

A month in early autumn, in which the Quran was sent down as a guide to the people and a clarification of the guidance and the criterion. Therefore, whoever of you can observe the season, then let him fast therein. And whoever is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days. God wants to bring you ease and not to bring you hardship; and so that you may complete the count, and glorify God for what He has guided you, that you may be thankful.
I must say, it's an interesting way of looking at it. Now, does the word 'was' in Quran was sent down, pose as a problem in this theory? Can it go both ways in arabic i.e. past or present tense? (was/is)... I hope my question is clear.

By Allah! May Peace Settle Upon Believers !
Zenje,
We hope to go ahead a long way above the lowest sky, cleaving the 6 more heavens above and afar. Be firm to get past the nearest sky, the place up to where shaitaan's physical power might reach.
Every thing beneath the sky is our worldly knowledge which are manifest but false, having in it nothing but illusion, for, shaitan is the master of creating illusions to our brains, and, his power is allowed for him by Allah within the limits of the first sky which vastness is his abode.
Ramadhan is the month or a period that is Blessed upon us from the heavens above, for, Quran is being sent down in those days of the month, on the believers, who look past their physical knowledge or reach. Thus the sighting of the new moon, that physical creation, lying in the deepest valley below the first sky, shall not have any relevance to the month of ramadhan at all.
2 189 speaks of the sighting of the moon. Allah assigns to it not any reference to ramadhan in that ayat. 002189 They ask thee concerning the New Moons. SayThey are but signs to mark fixed periods of time in men, and for Pilgrimage.
Ramadhan is the month that comprises of thirty days wherein Quran is being sent down upon who He Wishes i.e., on he who looks further than the knowledge of the heavens above, seeking and craving His Wisdom alone, for his life in this world and for the life in the hereafter.

Salam brother Zenje,
Your question is clear. Quran is for the humans and jinns, for all times from the present to the future. And Quran is never meant for those who are dead, and thus, quran is not for the past. Every ayat in Quran must pave the way for the humanity , guiding them towards the future, through the present until the Qiamah, and thence, their final entry into heaven.

Peace be upon you Brother Fazlur,
Can you clarify your thoughts just a little more. I like your thoughts regarding not keeping this reading(quran) stuck in the past. But I am stil unsure of your understanding of abstaining(sawm).

"Onzila is the passive form of the verb "anzala", I think "Onzila" is in the past tence and not the present tence, because we should read "yunnazzalu" instead of "Onzila".
Anzala is the past tence
Yunzilu is the present tenceawha is the past tence

idolfree
let me try to clarify dr.fazl's theory coz i think i understood it. quran was not meant for Muhammad AS alone it is for all of us.2170And if they are told Follow what God has sent down, they say No, we will follow what we found our fathers doing What if their fathers did not understand anything and were not guided?
291And if it is said to them Believe in what God Has sent down; they say We believe only in what was sent down to us and they reject what came after it, while it is the truth authenticating what is with them. Say Why then did you kill Gods prophets if you were believers?
so u see we should only follow what was sent down to us and when we recieve the revelation that would be a day of ramadhan for us. Allah promises us 30 such days in a year. as 2185 says whosoever witnesses the month. so fasting is individualised not everyone fasting one month continuosly. this way every muslim is looking for guidance and at least one fasting each day of the 365 days.
1319 Is one who knows that the truth has been sent down to you from your Lord like one who is blind? Only those with understanding will remember.
Allah guides who he wills. we get guidance from him and when we do it is a day of ramadhan for us. 30 days in 365 days not 30 continuos days.
today was my 2nd day of ramadhan in 2 weeks. i hope i cleared your doubt bit if i did not then pray to the Almighty for guidance. inshallah.

Salaams all,
may be somebody can tell me if i make sense,I didn't write
"I must say, it's an interesting way of looking at it. Now, does the word 'was' in Quran was sent down, pose as a problem in this theory? Can it go both ways in arabic i.e. past or present tense? (was/is)... I hope my question is clear."
to give an example,Allah showed people how to sail accross the seas ,by making a sailing ship-so is a sailing ship for all times?no ,but a ship is ,i think-for know for all time. But not a saling ship .
Just think how the ship has been modified ,So is the quran for all time ?no,not as it is it will be modified according to times places and needs.
example
can you observe the morning and evening times for keeping and breaking fasts, everywhere on earth.
I am sure you can find other things in the quran which have improved over time ,if you can't then i may be able to help you.
Salaams.

Peace be upon you Shariff and Dr Fazul,
Okay, I understand your position now, but I am still a bit unclear as to the witnessing of this event. Give me an example of a day when you felt that you recieved guidance and when , after that witnessing, did you start to abstain.
I guess the problem I have with that is that it makes it sound as if guidance does not come everyday. Further, how does the night of power tie into all of this?
Thank you for helping me understand your position.
-
Dear brother idolfree,
I am still a bit unclear as to the witnessing of the event. Give me an example of a day when you felt that you recieved guidance and when , after that witnessing, did you start to abstain.
Allah says Follow me and Follow my rasul
For long i never knew how to follow Allah but i never gave up. Later it dawned upon me that i follow Allah in this fashion Allah is forgiving; so be forgiving the people for their aggressions on you. Allah is very patient on you; so be observing patience over your people's misdeeds Allah is Wisdomful; so be seeking HIS wisdom and never keep your intelligence on par with HIS Wisdom. Allah never likes pride in you; so lose it from your face and bring up humility. Allah is self sufficient; so be not slogging for survival if you are truthful to HIM, for He will not let you down when you are sincere in following HIM. Now I know How To Follow Allah.. this is the day my heart felt the calmness of its life time, after the 'storm'ful search as to how to folow allah... So this is WAHI for, Allah says
13 28 "Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction
This is the day of witnessing salaamath at heart. So i fasted having satisfied with the day of witnessing...
Then my search for how to follow rasul It is answered very closely within days, thus
We have His Ruh in our hearts. Roughly we mean by it as " The Soul " which means " The Truthful ". This RUH is the abode of Ruhul Amin, the MESSENGER of Allah chosen from the angels, the malyikas namely, Gibraeel who is entrusted with the definitions and explanations of Quran who by HIS Grant descends down upon our RUH or on our souls explaining the ayats. So follow what has been sent down upon you. Allah says thus
13 19 Is he who knoweth that what is revealed unto thee from thy Lord is the truth like him who is blind? But only men of understanding heed;
So my Mesenger is God sent Ruhul Amin, the Gibraeel and i follow the Messenger... now it is the second time the peace descended on my soul and my iman became stronger.. this is the day of witnessing! So I fasted. From then it goes on and on endlessly!
I guess the problem I have with that is that it makes it sound as if guidance does not come everyday. Further, how does the night of power tie into all of this?
Yes! it does not come every day but as and when He deems fit. It may be everyday; or, months pass by without Events. The Wahi always comes as bits and sections as allah says in sura Furqan
25 32 And those who disbelieve say Why is the Qur'an not revealed unto him all at once? Thus that We may strengthen thy heart therewith; and We have arranged it in right order
If we need Quran it is with Allah for those who ponder; unless Allah guides you , none else shall guide you, for, Quran is With Allah Guarded and protected in HIS Luvhul mahful. So follow Allah by being righteous when the criterion is recited to you by Allah when you are being involved in your daily activities such as thoughts and devisings and plannings. Then follow Gibraeel His Messenger, when He recites for you the Guidance for your Siratul mustaqeem through clear revealtions. Follow then, freely and with no doubt, fear or worry as another angel messenger Mikhail conducts you and leads you through the Way all the WAY.... Read what Allah says
2 97 Say Who is an enemy to Gabriel! For he it is who hath revealed to thy heart by Allah's leave, confirming that which was before it ( the BOOK that you have before your soul ), and a guidance and glad tidings to believers ( who shall witness );
2 98 Who is an enemy to Allah, and His angels and His messengers, and Gabriel and Michael! Then, lo! Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers.
Brother idolfree,
Read it up allwith the 2 185 and you will receive the truth. when it descends upon your RUH you fast having witnessed the truth yourself. Never join the ritual gangs as they begin their feasts of the physical month of ramadhan, ritually on 14 th or on 15 th, of this month, for if we are to follow Allah we shall not follow what the majority follows.. 6 116
Thanks Allah for the opportunity He has Given

Peace be upon you Dr Fazl,
I have actually a few disagreements, but I think my position is not that much of a change from yours.
As you correctly pointed out to us from the God,
(5122) And in the sky/space (is) your provision and what you are being promised.
Our journey is inward, that is why Musa was told to remove his shoes.
That is why we are given the symbolism of climbing the mountain into the skies, because the steep path (up the mountain) is the journey inward, to the chief city, the Mind. The "malaika' are the guiding thoughts from the God, while the "shayteen" are the rejecting thoughts of our egotistical desires, when we see ourself as seperate from the WHOLE.
With that said, I agree with how you relate the "spending of money" with buying of food, and how we abstain from that when the guidanc ecomes down.
But I think I disagree with the timing, for I do not see how one is seeking can go for 330 days a year with no guidance. I feel that the guidance is always there, but that there are certain times when the ruh(energy) from the God is greater. Just like there are times at night(phases of the moon) when the light shines greater, just like there are times when women can "accept the seed and bring forth", so does tha MIND have times when it is more receptive.
With that said, I agree that the thrity days may not be consecutive, but when I think on when they could be, I am drawn to the 10 nights mentioned in the reading.
(892) And/by ten nights
I still have not heard an approach to this and I think it might be because it fits in this concept of abstaining.
Looking to the past, many people used to fast and have celebrations during the summer and winter solstices, both which last 4 days a piece, and also the spring and fall equinoxes, both which last a day a piece, this equals TEN.
I have a cd at home that speaks about these times and since this has just come to me, i need to go home and recall exactly what is stated about these times and how the atmosphere becomes Ionized(electrically charged) during the hoter times.
As you can see, my disagreement is not complete, but i wanted to speak out loud in case anyone could understand me and could find the answer with that help.
Thank yo Dr Fazl for the needed push and I welcom all critisisms you might have or any further thoughts you could share that could steer me in a direction that think is better.
-
Salaam Kyle and all,
(892) And/by ten nights
I still have not heard an approach to this and I think it might be because it fits in this concept of abstaining.
Looking to the past, many people used to fast and have celebrations during the summer and winter solstices, both which last 4 days a piece, and also the spring and fall equinoxes, both which last a day a piece, this equals TEN.
In regard to TEN, there's something that I saw, the other day, that I'm not sure if there's any significance at all, but I thought I'd try and see what you think.
- And complete the Pilgrimage and the visit for God. But, if you are prevented, then make what is affordable of donation, and do not shave your heads until the donation reaches its destination; but whoever of you is ill or has an affliction to his head, then he may redeem by fasting or giving a charity or a sacrifice. But if you are able, then whoever continues the visit until the Pilgrimage, then he shall provide what is affordable of donation; but for he who cannot find anything, then he must fast for three days during the Pilgrimage and seven when he returns; this will make a COMPLETE ten; this is for those whose family is not present at the Restricted Temple. And be aware of God, and know that God is severe in retribution.
I realize this is about a different subject, but I thought since 'fasting' is involved, I'd give it a (long) shot. What do you think? )
Peace!
-
Salaam drfazl,
So my Mesenger is God sent Ruhul Amin, the Gibraeel and i follow the Messenger... now it is the second time the peace descended on my soul and my iman became stronger.. this is the day of witnessing! So I fasted. From then it goes on and on endlessly!
Allah decreed siyam/abstinence for us a few number of days during the month of ramadhan.
Therefore, whoever of you can observe the season, then let him fast therein. And whoever is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days. God wants to bring you ease and not to bring you hardship; and so that you may complete the count (2185)
We should complete the period and this is a known period during the month of ramadhan.
I consider this month as one of the twelve months of the year (936).
- The count of the months with God is twelve months in God?s record the day He created the heavens and the Earth; four of them are restricted. This is the correct system; so do not wrong yourselves in them; and fight those who set up partners collectively as they fight you collectively. And know that God is with the righteous.
Correct me if I'm wrong, a month is a number of successive days and not intermittent.
In the light of the quran, the four restricted months are consecutive.
Read it up allwith the 2 185 and you will receive the truth. when it descends upon your RUH you fast having witnessed the truth yourself.
I'm very confused ?
You always think that the month of "ramadhan" in which the quran is sent down and not was sent ?
Past tence
971 Behold, We have revealed it in the Night of Majesty.
Inna anzalnahu fee laylatialqadriToday I have perfected your system for you, and completed My blessings upon you, and I have accepted surrender as the system for you. (53)
Does the quran explain itself and provide its own best commentary?
Is the quran sufficient for our guidance?
Any comment appreciated
Thanks
Marie

Dear Marie,
Allah decreed siyam/abstinence for us a few number of days during the month of ramadhan.
Can you refer to Quran as to which ayat says a month means only a few number of days within the month ? See your own statements below

Dear drfazl,
Thanks for your understanding.
Dear Marie,
Allah decreed siyam/abstinence for us a few number of days during the month of ramadhan.
Can you refer to Quran as to which ayat says a month means only a few number of days within the month ?
There is a big difference between your statement and my own understanding. What I try to say that we have to abstain therein "the month of ramadhan", a few number of days.
We cannot read the verse 2185 without the previous verses (2183..)
Allah knows best
I ask you the same question, can you refer to the qur'an as which ayat says that siyam which is decreed for us a whole month. The verse 2183 is clear, siyam is decreed during a few number of days and not a month (shahr) 2183.
See your own statements below
Therefore, whoever of you can observe the season, then let him fast therein. and so that you may complete the count of one month shock (2185)
You modified what I have said; I understand "to complete the count "al3idda" of "ayyam ma3doodat/a" and not of the month (2183). That seems coherent.
There is no offence; to witness the month by receiving the revelation is guessing work not supported by the quran.
Allah guide those who seek the truth during all their life and not only during a few days.
May Allah guide us to the straight path.
Marie

.
Peace Marie,We cannot read the verse 2185 without the previous verses (2183..)
Here are a few other translations.
2 184
SHAKIR For a certain number of days
YUSUFALI for a fixed number of days
2183 SHAKIR O you who believe! fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may guardI do not see in the above the 10 days! I am still asking you wherein in 2 183 and 184 we see those 10 days that you refer to. Do you see ?
I ask you the same question, can you refer to the qur'an as which ayat says that siyam which is decreed for us a whole month. The verse 2183 is clear, siyam is decreed during a few number of days and not a month (shahr) 2183.
2185 is my answer. One month or one whole month; both carry the same meanings I suppose. whoever witnesses the month shall fast in it
There is no offence; to witness the month by receiving the revelation is guessing work not supported by the quran.
Do you say the Revelation is not for us? Do you mean to maintain that it is a guess work if any believes one shall receive wahi from Allah? And you say this since that you found in your opinion, Quran has no support for this? Are you sure? There are plenty of ayats that support that it is Allah who alone shows the WAY. Worship Him alone ; and Seek only from HIM, the WAY
Allah guides those who seek the truth during all their life and not only during a few days.
True, Allah sends down His guidance little by little ; off and on - so that your hearts may be strengthened. He decides the timing to send down His Guidance, the Wahi. Hence keep expecting all the while, until last breath. The Guidance Guides you. As the guidance comes from Allah off and on, fix the days following the revelation due for fasting. 2184 " For a fixed number of days!" 2 185 " when you witness the the guidance, the wahi fast there in; Allah's promise is that such guidance is sure to come to you individually, for 30 days every year, that shall make a month. Thus the month is individualised and is dispersed through out the year. NOT collectively promised for all the people of the world, in the same month. Please MIND the words of Allah " WHOEVER WITNESSES! "
The month is thus highly individualised and its days are well dispersed.May Allah guide us to the straight path.

Peace drfazl,
.
I do not see in the above the 10 days! I am still asking you wherein in 2 183 and 184 we see those 10 days that you refer to. 2185 is my answer. One month or one whole month; both carry the same meanings I suppose. whoever witnesses the month shall fast in it
Agree, I revised my view about this subject, I have just posted a new post in this section Ramadhan -10 Days?what do we think?
Do you say the Revelation is not for us? Do you mean to maintain that it is a guess work if any believes one shall receive wahi from Allah? And you say this since that you found in your opinion, Quran has no support for this? Are you sure? There are plenty of ayats that support that it is Allah who alone shows the WAY. Worship Him alone ; and Seek only from HIM, the WAY
We have not the same reading of some verses, I believe, the quran is complete and fully detailed, I look for the response to my questions about some verses in the quran because It explains itself.
The quran is an universal message and it is for the world. It is sufficient for me to live in harmony with the God's laws.
Please MIND the words of Allah " WHOEVER WITNESSES! "
The month is thus highly individualised and its days are well dispersed. This is just my understanding, in the light of the quran, I consider the month of ramadhan as a lunar month and it is the first lunar month of the four resticted months which are consecutive (chapter 9)
I understand this part differently than you "Therefore, whoever of you can observe the season, then let him abstain it"
I think we witness the lunar month "ramadhan" at different time according to our geographic position.Allah knows best
