Quranist fall into four main categories.

Those who only follow the Quran.
Those who follow the Quran and the Islamic rituals
Those who follow the Quran and Islamic rituals and hadiths that does not contradict the Quran.
Those who follow the Quran and the previous scriptures.

Most Quranist however overlap between them depending on the issue.

      Peace hawkninetynine,

If at that point someone who hasn't submitted themselves to God says to me oh so you're a muslim, I'd simply say muslim means a submitter to God alone and I am not part of any sect and follow the path of monotheism. If I get further questions then I'll expand on my beliefs carefully trying not to come across traditional at all.. I doubt I would anyway lol.

      Peace peace

      Point taken,

Your decision to refer to yourself by the english translation " "I am a submitter to God alone"
could be construed by non-muslims as something other than muslim. What do you say when it
becomes evident to the non-muslim that you are in fact according to their understanding
      muslim.

May God guide us along the path

      Peace

Conversing with christian recently, I stated I was muslim then expanded
on my beilefs in order to be understood properly, thereby letting him know we muslims are a diverse group and that there is a correct Islam and a false Islam. The gentleman became interested, gave me his e-mail address and wanted to know more. I will introduce him to
free-minds God willing. I did not explain "submitter" to him because at that moment
I felt that discussion would be better left for another time. I see no harm in translating
        muslim into another language.

        Peace

As per my understanding we are muslims (submitters in english) according to Quran.
We as a group should decide who we are and finally be united, despite small
                  differences.

How do you define what a Muslim is? From the Quran. We define a Muslim different than how other Muslims do. I guess its a way to seperate us from other Muslims but Quranist is the best label for us. Anyways you don't chose your label, its usually done by others to identify you. Labels are not based on ideology as much as identification. Most Sunni/Shia clerics despise us being called Quranist because it gives the impression that we are following the Quran and they are not.

Anyways Quranically speaking the right label is Mu'min.

                          SAlaam

                          IN MOP
Mumiin and muslim-- muslim is to be submited, but to be submited you need to bealive with ikhlass(sincerity), you can bealive Quran but not submmit, and you can submit to Allah and dont bealive Quran.. so make confusing now..

lets take other exemple hudan or nasara..(comon translation cristian and jew) Hudan means orientation nasara comes from helpers.. so ibrahim was not only a helper nor only guided, but was muslim submited to Creator alone trough all his actions. the Relion of Allah consist in not associating partnership with them..so we we have ibrahim as pure monoteist and all otrher messengers follow this principle and theire coming was to , and simple to defende this monoteistic faith.

Conlusion to be muslim, you need to be mumin(bealive) have to help others(ansar) have to guide others(hudan) so you can become a submited=Muslim ...otherwise you are incomplete..now sheck all messengers narrations and you ll see..almost of them had knowledge, guide, help others, and submited to God alone.

My understanding of muslim is one who has submitted. Do we desire separation by calling ourselves
by a title not in Quran (Quranist)?

You shall submit to Him, reverence Him, observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), and - whatever you do - do not ever fall into idol worship.
(Do not fall in idol worship,) like those who divide their religion into sects; each party rejoicing with what they have.

Others identifying us by whatever title they choose is out of our control, we can only reinforce to them
                            what we call ourselves.

The clerics being wroth with us may be a consequence of our journey that we must be willing to accept
regardless of the consequences as the truth must be our guide.

It is my understanding the Abraham named us muslims (submitters).

You shall strive for the cause of GOD as you should strive for His cause. He has chosen you and has placed no hardship on you in practicing your religion?the religion of your father Abraham. He is the one who named you "Submitters" originally. Thus, the messenger shall serve as a witness among you, and you shall serve as witnesses among the people. Therefore, you shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and hold fast to GOD; He is your Lord, the best Lord and the best Supporter.

Salam people, I haven't read the whole thread, just this page, and I want you all to consider the idea that we define the words Muslim and Momin before labeling etc. This is the reason I opened my thread, which for some reason is getting but no one is replying. I believe we first need to grasp the definitions of the words.

There are many labels the Quran uses. Hudna is one, nasara is another. Sadiqeen is another. Saliheen is another. You yourself said muslim is a submitter. That is an adjective. Submitted to what? To God. And how do you understand God ? From the Quran. So a Quranist is a proper label. Generally the Quran uses mu'min. But all religions see themselves as mu'min. So Quranist distinquishes.

But Quranically speaking the term used is mu'min. The term Muslim was invented later by Islamic authorities. Early followers called themselves mu'min.

                                      Peace Fallen Angel 21098,

It appears that the list is getting longer as per your thread.

                                      Peacemaker, mu'min, submitter

But Quranically speaking the term used is mu'min. The term Muslim was invented later by Islamic authorities. Early followers called themselves mu'min.

Bigmo could you please give references for your claim that

I used to just say I'm Muslim. But people immediately associate this term with long beards, hijab, a prophet who married a 6 year old (allegedly), crazy imams giving crazy fatwas, women having no rights, etc. Unfortunately Sunnis have hijacked the term "Muslim". I have little in common with them and don't want to be assumed to be one of them.

I now say I'm a "Quranist Muslim". This prompts them to ask what's that? And it gives me an opportunity to explain. I like it better this way.

Mumiin and muslim-- muslim is to be submited, but to be submited you need to bealive with ikhlass(sincerity), you can bealive Quran but not submmit, and you can submit to Allah and dont bealive Quran.. so make confusing now..

I think muslim is to distinguish those who have submitted to God who are basically
Quranists and its offshoots which are the many sects of Islam. Despite the abhorrance
of the practice of many sects they are also muslim.
