    I recommend going by the Arabic, e.g. see this discussion

    Because if i have to shower everytime i go to the washroom that will be very hard for people. Specially those who live in cold countries.

    If you wish to shower everytime you go to the washroom that is up to you, that is not necessarily as per Quran.

    If we are to perform wudu everytime before we stand up for prayers, then there can be no case of nullification of wudu, since we do it just before we stand up to pray. In that case why are the 2 conditions"going to the washroom and sexual contact with a woman" in the ayah below mentioned?

    If you are implying it is ALWAYS done immediately prior to the regular/timed salat, then this is highly unlikely. Bear in mind, the command applies universally, i.e. to those 1400 years ago and those with limited facilities etc. Note, a communal salat would likely involve travelling to a specific location, i.e. a passage of time will pass before commencing the regular/timed salat.

    And as I said, it is not only about "nullification of wudu" (as you put it), quote

    Some people at the time (~1400 years ago) may not have regarded the underlined conditions as requiring washing/cleansing, but the above implies they do, and it eases the requirement in certain situations. For example if the author of Quran wished to ease the burden in certain situations the author would mention them.

    All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

      O ye who believe! Approach not prayers with a mind befogged, until ye can understand all that ye say,- nor in a state of ceremonial impurity (Except when travelling on the road), until after washing your whole body. If ye are ill, or on a journey, or one of you cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in contact with women, and ye find no water, then take for yourselves clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces and hands. For Allah doth blot out sins and forgive again and again.

      Is it okay for the sick to attend congregation? might not they pass on their sickness?

        Salam

        @mirjamnur & @wakas
        Thank you both for your replies.

        my question to both of you is "what happens in a situation when i have not been ill, or i am not travelling, and i havent been the toilet and neither have i touched anyone sexually, AND i cant find water, then how do i perform wudu?"

        Do you consider "tayammum" to be a replacement of "wudu" or "ghusl" or both in a situation where there is no water?

        @357
        I believe congregational salat is not mandatory. So if you think you are going to harm other people if you go, then you should probably avoid it, when you are sick.

          O ye who believe! When the call is proclaimed to prayer on Friday (the Day of Assembly), hasten earnestly to the Remembrance of Allah, and leave off business (and traffic) That is best for you if ye but knew!

          ? Is there anybody left out from this command?

          peace

            Salaam Newgirl,

            I have this same question since years

            443 O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying or in a state of janabah, except those passing through, until you have washed. And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and your hands. Indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving.

            56
            56 O you who have believed, when you getup to alSalaat, so wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful.

            I understand that we have to use both these aayaats together to understand it clearly. Let me try by my TheCreator's permission, inshaAllah.

            O you who have believed when you getup for alSalaat, so wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles , if you are in sukaaraa, don't go near alSalaat until you understand what you are saying , and also do not go near alSalaat if you are in state of junuban until you clean yourself , but you can go for alSalaat in state of junuban only if your are on the way . And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from places of relieving oneself or you have contacted women, also need wudu, as it is mandatory for all believers and if they don't find water, then tayammum as an alternative of wudu for them . One who is not ill, nor on a journey nor gone to the call of nature nor contacted women and if could not find water, then tayammum is an alternative for them too or he cannot go for alSalaat .

            I understand this because one needs to be clean to contact God, so wudu is mandatory for every believer. But four conditions mentioned that if being ill, or on a journey or gone for a nature's call or contacted women are not in once hand , so in such natural cases, they are allowed to go for alSalaat by doing wudu, and if they don't find water they can also go for alSalaat by doing tayammum. This part clarifies at the end of 56 i.e., "Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful."

            This is my personal understanding at the moment. May Allah forgive me if I make mistakes in understanding it pr

              Ablution for Sala 56 O you who acknowledge, when you rise to attend the contact prayer, then wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, and wipe your heads and your feet to the ankles; and if you have had intercourse, then you shall bathe.

              1.If you are ill,
              2.or traveling,
              3.or you have excreted feces,
              4.or you have had sexual contact with the women,

              and you could not find water,
              then you shall do ablution from clean soil;
              you shall wipe your faces and your hands. God does not want to make any hardship over you, but He wants to cleanse you and to complete His blessings upon you that you may be appreciative.

              Am i seeing this right ?

              So the tayammum is for those people in the four catagories .

              So those people who are not sick ,not travelling ,not been to the toilet . not had contact with women but don?t have water don?t need to go to salaat as they cant purify themselves, Yes?

                  A perfect explanation.

                  Though you havn't given a solution to those who can't find water for washing , so don't do salaat or do do salaat but without water then?

                  i suppose we will have that much water.

                    If the "red part" is not about Salaat and have nothing to do with Salaat, why it has been mentioned with the topic of Salaat in both places? Why separate aayaats are not used for that, if it is not related?

                      Thank you both for your replies.

                      my question to both of you is "what happens in a situation when i have not been ill, or i am not travelling, and i havent been the toilet and neither have i touched anyone sexually, AND i cant find water, then how do i perform wudu?"

                      Do you consider "tayammum" to be a replacement of "wudu" or "ghusl" or both in a situation where there is no water?

                      @357
                      I believe congregational salat is not mandatory. So if you think you are going to harm other people if you go, then you should probably avoid it, when you are sick.

                      yes, tayammum is a replacement of wudu or ghusl in a situation wher there is no water. sample- and Allah don't like to make any hardship for the believers...
                      and when you don't find clean earth, then pray without wudu. so i understand it. Salam

                            Salaam brother,

                            I disagree with you.

                            If the "red part" is not about Salaat and have nothing to do with Salaat, why it has been mentioned with the topic of Salaat in both places? Why separate aayaats are not used for that, if it is not related?

                            May Allah increase us in knowledge and guide us to His true path pr

                              A perfect explanation.

                              Though you havn't given a solution to those who can't find water for washing , so don't do salaat or do do salaat but without water then?

                              i suppose we will have that much water.

                              Salaam,

                              As per my current understanding

                              56 "O you who believe, IF you rise to hold the contact prayer, THEN wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, and wipe your heads and your feet to the ankles;..."

                              so if you can't do the blue part then you can't do the green part.

                              This is how I understand it, I might be wrong.

                              Salaam,

                                  I believe the "if/when" issues was discussed by bro Damon in the past. He initially thought it may be "if" but the discussion presented evidence towards "when". What is your evidence "idha" means "if"?

                                      the first part is that we should not provide information drunk / intoxicated or praying in the status of janaabah until we wash, the expression green is included to show that you can considered as participants of the salat, if you are in a state of janaba AND PASSING THROUGH....what what does it mean???
                                      This leads us to define what is SALAT and contradicts so the theory that it is a PERSONAL ritual prayer and confirmed the theory that the SALAT is a a public thing (meeting worship, whatever), the one who is in janaabah and can pass the Place where the SALAT is hold without having to wash ... hmm hmm

                                      Part Twohere we found all exceptions, on one hand 1. if there is no water at all and other hand, 2. if someone has a disease that gets worse with water.

                                      O you who have believed, do not approach prayer in a state of janabah until you have washed , And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and your hands . The second part is a supplement of the first part, no separate condition.

                                      Conclusion
                                      all have to wash if they want join the SALAT (either with water or earth), except the one in an impure state (janaabah) which do not actually want to join the salat and is just coincidentally present there.
