    salaam all,

Please note StopS did not provide any alternative possibility, not even one, to his so-called "unclear/ambiguous" verses. I would have thought "unclear/ambiguous" verses could have many viable possibilities, yet he provides zero.

    Exposed.

You see, this is what generally happens when forced to use Quran and only Quran, many misunderstandings and variance is cleared up.

    And StopS also admits

In other words, every country in the entire world apparently struggles with this issue.

So to sum up StopS's argument Quran is unclear/ambiguous yet I cannot provide any viable alternative to the verses and every system in the world struggles with this issue.

    Lame.

    Please try again StopS. ;D

I don't have to. Try and understand what I wrote.

      Peace StopS.

If we answered you like this, Quote
I don't have to. Try and understand what I wrote.

      Will you be satisfied?
The reason for asking again, is because what you wrote needed evidence/ clarification....

      Peace.

        sigh
Of course I would be satisfied. I would read and try to understand where I made a mistake and not make condescending remarks.
I might sound rude, I know. I have repeatedly asked Wakas not to tangle with me because he tends to get personal even when he's wrong, so there's a history behind this.

If someone tells me a car is made from metal and that is the absolute truth and I read that another manufacturer is using plastic, I can say that I have some doubts regarding the statement with the metal. I will say that because someone is using plastic, I have my doubts. Do I - or can I even - provide an alternative? I have shown why and how it is that I have my doubts and why I consider the initial statement as not entirely valid. I have explained it to him twice and I still get his supercilious "exposed", "lame" comments.

What is your suggestion how I should better handle a situation such as this?

The verses are clear and only the extremely ignorant interpret as applicable to underage girls.

This was quite funny! I thought you are agreeing with my point, because there is only one explanation for "the ones (f) not menstruated", which is premenarcheal girls or girls who have not had their menses.
But then I realised I fall into the category of "the extremely ignorant".

Reading the statement again I found no definition of "underage", so what constitutes underage and why?
And if these sentences are so clear, why then are there so many different translations and opinions? How come almost all translations say not yet menstruated? Are all these translators ignorant and only you somehow "know" the true meaning?

Let's see what others have to say

Mufti Taqi Usmani And those women from among you who have despaired of (further) menstruation, if you are in doubt, their =Iddah is three months, as well as of those who have not yet menstruated.

Sahih International And those who no longer expect menstruation among your women - if you doubt, then their period is three months, and those who have not menstruated.

            Shakir And (as for) those of your women who have despaired of menstruation, if you have a doubt, their prescribed time shall be three months, and of those too who have not had their courses;

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar And as for those who gave up hope of menstruation among your women, if you were in doubt, their (f) waiting period is three months and for those who have not yet menstruated.

            Wahiduddin Khan In the case of those of your wives who have passed the age of menstruation, if you have any doubt, know that their waiting period is three months; and that will apply likewise to those who have not yet menstruated;

T.B.Irving If you have any doubt concerning those women of yours who have finished with menstruation, then their count is three months; as it is with the ones who are still not menstruating.

And those of your women who have renounced the hope of experiencing their menstrual courses again, and you are in doubt of the date or of the nature of the discharge, then they have to wait for a set period of three months. A similar set period is obligatory to those who have not yet experienced these periodic courses.

            Abdel Haleem If you are in doubt, the period of waiting will be three months for those women who have ceased menstruating and for those who have not menstruated;

Abdul Majid Daryabadi And as to such of your women as have despaired of menstruation, if ye be in doubt thereof, their waiting period is three months, as also of those who have not yet menstruated.

Ahmed Ali As for your women who have lost hope of menstruation, and in case you have a doubt, the prescribed period (of waiting) for them is three months, as also for those who have not menstruated yet.

Aisha Bewley In the case of those of your wives who are past the age of menstruation, if you have any doubt, their ?idda should be three months, and that also applies to those who have not yet menstruated.

Ali Quli Qara'i As for those of your wives who do not hope to have menses, should you have any doubts, their term shall be three months, and for those who have not yet had menses.

Hamid S. Aziz And as for those of your women who have despaired (passed the age) of menstruation, if you have a doubt, their prescribed time shall be three months, and of those too who have not had their courses.

Muhammad Mahmoud Ghali And as for those of your women who have despaired of menstruation, in case you have any suspicion, then their (fixed) spell shall be three months, (along) with those who have not menstruated (as yet).

Muhammad Taqi Usmani And those women from among you who have despaired of (further) menstruation, if you are in doubt, their ?Iddah is three months, as well as of those who have not yet menstruated.

Farook Malik If you have any doubt concerning those of your wives who have ceased menstruating, then you should know that their waiting period will be three months, and the same will apply to those who have no menstruation due to young age or a disease.

Dr. Munir Munshey (Remember), if you are in doubt about the ?iddat.? of your women, _ either because they are past the age, or haven?t yet started to menstruate _ it lasts three months.

Tahir-ul-Qadri Mohammad And those of your women who have no hope of menstruation, if you doubt (as to what will be their prescribed period), then their prescribed period is three months. And for those women who have not yet menstruated

Maududi The waiting period of those of your women who have lost all expectation of menstruation shall be three months in case you entertain any doubt; and the same shall apply to those who have not yet menstruated.

Bijan Moeinian The women who have reached menopause, their waiting period is three lunar months. The same law applies to women who have not menstruated yet

            Faridul Haque And for those of your women who have no hope of menstruation, if you doubt, the appointed period is three months - and also for those who have not yet had menstruation;

Hasan Al-Fatih Qaribullah As for your women who have despaired of further menstruating, if you are in doubt, then their waiting period is three months as well as those who have not yet menstruated.

Maulana Muhammad Ali And those of your women who despair of menstruation, if you have a doubt, their prescribed time is three months, and of those, too, who have not had their courses.

Muhammad Ahmed - Samira And those (F) who became infertile/despaired from the menstruation from your women, if you became doubtful/suspicious, so their term/count (is) three months, and those (F) who did not menstruate,

Sher Ali And if you are in doubt as to the prescribed period for such of your women as have despaired of monthly courses, then know that the prescribed period for them is three months, and also for such as do not have their monthly courses yet.

Hilali & Khan And those of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the Iddah (prescribed period), if you have doubts (about their periods), is three months, and for those who have no courses ((i.e. they are still immature)

It seems to me that there are some very well known and respected, yet "extremely ignorant" translators out there.

654 As for those who have reached menopause from your women, if you have any doubts, their interim shall be three months - as well as for those who did not menstruate. And those who are already pregnant, their interim is until they give birth. And anyone who reverences God, He makes his matters easy for him.

Those who did not menstruate. Is being young the only time you don't menstruate? There's another situation.

              1. Irregular periods.

              2. A child's conception. (When you're unsure of whether you're pregnant yet or not).

              Perhaps that's why it continues

And those who are already pregnant...

Whatever anyone might think about Dr. Rashad Khalifa PhD, he was the messenger of the covenant, and he confirmed & showed it with solid proofs, discovering the mathematical structure of the Qur'an beyond human capability. We might not be fully aware how much indebted we all are to him.
I personally accepted Islam thanks to him, and would never ever approached it without his introduction, hutbas, lectures, appendices and his authorized translation of the Qur'an! He did not only explain Islam and the Qur'an to me, but also helped me with his lectures to resolve many doubts and uncertainties I had about Xtianity and Judaism, too. The result of my studying his opus is my strengthened path to God Alone, blessed be Allah.

I read mohamed asad, yusuf ali, sahid international, the monotheist group (now they say that is was not a group effort, then why did they lie), reformist translation (I can see the Quran coded, but all that nonsense they talk about, they only want to sell the book), anyway, none of them are translations, all of them are interpretations. I like Mohamed Asad better, at least he used a more philosophical/reasonable english, his translation appeal more to reason than superstition.

Are all these translators ignorant and only you somehow "know" the true meaning?

Yes "STOPS"most of the translators are ignorant and don't translate the Quran honestly, they follow conjectures and traditions, and translate the sacred Quran using stupidities from tasfir.

when studying the quran corpus (http//corpus.quran.com) I thought that that I had finally found an honest translation word by word, and that I could even learn arabic, having the words explained with such detail, but I was disappointed. I found so many contradictions because the translator seemed to follow no rules, but yet his translation agrees, more or less, with the rest of translators. I stopped for a while, but god led me to the arabic tense rules, then I had the evidence against the translators, and I have translated verses using the tense rules and it works every time. I just don't understand why they don't apply them.

Whoever says "not menstruated/have not menstruated yet" is a liar.
654 using arabic tense rules says

                          and those who
(perfect they feminine) they have despaired
                          of

                          of
                          your women
                          if
(perfect you masculine) you have doubt
                          then their waiting period/number/count

                          month
                          and those who
                          not

                            wrkmmm,

To clarify, corpus.quran.com is not some translation effort. It's primary purpose is as stated on its homepage, i.e. to do with syntax/morphology/grammar.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

(perfect you masculine) you have doubt
                              then their waiting period/number/count
                              three
                              month
                              and those who
                              not
(imperfect they feminine) they menstruating/ they menstruate.......

When is prefixed to an imperfect verb, it causes the following changes
                              (1) The meaning of imperfect verb are changed into a negative past tense with emphasis.
                              (2) The indicative mood of the imperfect verb becomes jussive mood

The predicate of Relative Plural Feminine Pronoun which is the subject of sentence is elided since it is mentioned earlier in respect of other type of wives with whom husband has pronounced suspension of matrimonial relationship-Talaq.

This sentence means And so is the duration of three months for those Wives who have not yet menstruated immediately before pronouncement of suspension of Matrimonial Bond .
This provision was necessitated because otherwise it can much shorten the period of three menstrual cycles-one happening immediately after pronouncement of suspension of Matrimonial Bond-this also takes care of those Wives with removed uterus.

                                Here we go again...

Are some people so bored that they have nothing else to do but to vivisect adjectives, articles and words? Or they try to surpass Dr. Khalifa out of jealousy?

The authorized translation by Dr. Khalifa is both elegant and simple

As for the women who have reached menopause, if you have any doubts, their interim shall be three months. As for those who do not menstruate, and discover that they are pregnant, their interim ends upon giving birth. Anyone who reverences GOD, He makes everything easy for him.

After all, his mother tongue was Arabic, and he studied and worked in English, apart from being the messenger of the covenant!

Sorry, his translation is patently incorrect. He relied mostly upon the earlier translations and merely reworded them without revisiting the actual Arabic text of Qur'aan. Ayah is mentioning three different types of women; not two. Had he studied what happens in couple of months when a woman reaches age of menopause, he might have little bohered to see the case endings of words to know which is subject and which is predicate.

                                    Salaam,

I have read a couple of times that Rashad Khalifa's translation is authorized.
Any one an idea what this means?

                                    Thanks!!!

                                      Peace Mazhar, Bender.

This is what he was destined to do

We are fully aware of everything they utter, while you have no power over them. Therefore, remind with this Quran, those who reverence My warnings.

This is what he came to undo

They follow idols who decree for them religious laws never authorized by God. If it were not for the predetermined decision, they would have been judged immediately. Indeed, the transgressors have incurred a painful retribution.

This is the opposite of authorisation

We place shields around their minds, to prevent them from understanding it, and deafness in their ears. And when you preach your Lord, using the Quran alone, they run away in aversion.

This is what they said about him

They said, "Did you come to make us worship God alone, and abandon what our parents used to worship? We challenge you to bring the doom you threaten us with, if you are truthful."

                                      This is what he preached

When God ALONE is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink with aversion. But when others are mentioned beside Him, they become satisfied.

Before it will be too late

Subsequently, when they saw our retribution they said, "Now we believe in God ALONE, and we now disbelieve in the idol worship that we used to practice."

                                          Salaam good logic,

I am not sure if this was meant for me, if it is then I have no idea why you bring that to me hmm

Ok thanks for clarifying. Sorry I don't know much about him, but did he said that?
Also does this means that his english translation is equivalent with the arabic?

Just curious what people mean when they say that his translation is authorized.

                                          Salaam and thanks!!!
