here i am again, confused! ? with the concept of salat first i read the method of salat on submission.org and started performing my daily prayers but i was in question tht how can we human create our own methods of prayers , is there no method of prayer in quran?
i think salat certainly requires bowing and prostrating but how and when exactly are we suppose to do it
here are some verses abt bowing and prostrating

    The Cow
And keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate and bow down with those who bow down.
And when We made the House a pilgrimage for men and a (place of) security, and Appoint for yourselves a place of prayer on the standing-place of Ibrahim. And We enjoined Ibrahim and Ismail saying Purify My House for those who visit (it) and those who abide (in it) for devotion and those who bow down (and) those who prostrate themselves.
    The Family of Imran
O Marium! keep to obedience to your Lord and humble yourself, and bow down with those who bow.
    The Immunity
They who turn (to Allah), who serve (Him), who praise (Him), who fast, who bow down, who prostrate themselves, who enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil, and who keep the limits of Allah; and give good news to the believers.
    The Pilgrimage
O you who believe! bow down and prostrate yourselves and serve your Lord, and do.good that you may succeed.
    The Sent Forth
And where it is said to them Bow down, they do not bow down.

      Salaamun alaikum,

Can I just draw your attention to 2/43, please? Do you find it rather strange that Allah tells you to establish as-salaat, produce az-zakaat THEN he says 'bow with those who bow'. I mean if you look at sequentially (as a ritual), it would be starting to pray by standing, then breaking off and going to Zakat payment office, then coming back to bow ??!!

i also dont the clear concept. but this is how i perform 2 times. 1st how i reach this conclusion. All the animals know their salat and none seems to do rituals. then the meaning which i understood read quran at dawn. thts normally a time v dont hv anything in mind or mind is at ease. open to grasp new ideas n understanding for the day.
morning salat, clean/washup sit n tell wht i intend to do this day, read quran. how to bow, when to bow is simple, one can do as other god beliving do, i also understand tht theres no harm going to church or masjid after all God knows whts in our heart, isnt it. the other understanding to bow. v see in tv when any quake/storm struck many ppl r heard saying, oh my God, oh my God, with their hands in the air. conclusion how anybody bows doesnt count. what count is wht is in yr heart.

and sunset salat, clean/washup sit and ask for forgiveness if i hv done anything wrong. pray for my family.

new thinking of mine, lemme know if this is rite approch.

        1. whtever i do is either right or wrong
        2. whtever i say s either right or wrong

keeping these 2 point in mind all the time has helped me alot.

        1. the total of above vil be done at the judement day, which isnt very far.

        2. v goto heven or hell

there's no ritual prayers involving bowing and prostrating like Zoroasters do. we are supposed to keep up the commitment / contact, bringing forth purification and humbly honor the Divine Laws (bowing and prostration).

please don't follow which you don't have no knowledge (like turning towards kabaah to pray). Pay attention to 4221.

4221 Or do they have partners who decree for them a system which has not been authorized by God? And if it were not for the word already given, they would have been judged immediately. Indeed, the transgressors will have a painful retribution.

thanks to all the people who posted their comments on this thread it has helped me to a certain limit
but i feel lots n lots of peace when i bow and prostrate physically keepin God in mind, i dont experience such a peace while by just standing or sitting
during prostration i feel very close to God the feeling cannot be described , the physical prostration gives a feeling of total submission to God
its very difficult to leave this form of prayer pls do tell me and advice me wht to do
pls tell me am i commiting a serious sin /.
i pray the usual way but i dont perform 2 ,3, or 4 rakats n i perform only one rakat and while standing i ecite surat al fatiha ,surat all ikhlas ,surat al falaq and surat all naas

That's good. The rakaat counting can take your attention away from the actual purpose of as-salaat.

                Peace,

When I physically pray I also only do what you might say is one rakat. I stand and right away with hands by my side recite only 'fatiha' then bow without any statements and say the usual glorification of the God slowly and with contemplation, with thankfulness in my heart. I then right myself and then prostrate again glorifying the God and being thankful for His blessings in my mind. I'll then simply affirm that there is no God but the God and that there are no compeers to Him.

Then it's over. I'll just sit and ask forgiveness for things I've done poorly, lazily, badly etc. and thank the God for His continuing blessings and pray for further knowledge and guidance.

Nothing more complex than that - no hand or finger movements or postures; no special ways of sitting or erecting feet etc. The basic KISS principle - Keep It Simple & Straightforward.

                Regards.

                  peace all,
i started perfoming salat five times a day few months back, in the begining it was a sort of satisfaction for me, but slowly i started getting a bit confused, repeating the same words/actions five times a day without even knowing the meanings of what I was saying was a bit undigestable/illogical for me, so after a month or so i stopped praying.
i still dont understand why Allah want us to bow and prostrate?

                  peace.

                    Peace be upon you,

"bow and prostrate" are metaphors for submitting and hearing and obeying.

Salaa it the means of PROGRAMMING our Nafs(spirits/minds)

Most of the words that are recited in ritual salaat are Quranic verses. So, U can look up their meanings. There is no point uttering stuff that we dont understand. The idea should be to say what we mean, from our hearts.
When I was young, I used to pray without understanding too and it made no sense to me. Then I decided to find out the meaning of all of that's said in salaat. It has made much sense from then on.(I have skipped darood-sharif though).

                      Peace!

I mean the process of "burning" a habit into your subconcious so that you change your behavior. Just like in school how you use repitition to "burn" an answer to a question in your subconscious so that when you call on it the subconscious will bring it to your awareness. Just like how many of us can remember the phone number of thier home they grew up in.

According to your understing of "salat", it can be practice at any hour of the day than Can you tell me why the salat is prescribed at hours determined in particular the morning and the evening?

                              Peace,

There are several idioms in the reading which taken literally would imply TWO elements but actually mean much more.

                              Examples...

EAST & WEST (eg. 7040) - does not mean just these two directions, but all the directions between them.

SUMMER AND WINTER (eg. 1062) - means throughout the year; ie all seasons.

HEAVENS AND THE EARTH (eg. 2255) - does not mean just the sky and earth but every space and body in the universe including other planets for example.

TWO ENDS OF THE DAY (11114) - can mean and implies throughout the day continuously.

These must be understood as idiomatic phrases. There are many other idioms in the reading that commonly lead to difficulties in extracting the correct meaning.

                              Regards.

Programming deals with the IMPREGNATION of the spirit(nafs) by the Will. I will give you the metaphor of the man and woman. The man (the will) can give seed at any time. The woman(spirit/nafs) is based on a CYCLE, and cannot always except the seed. But you already know this, you know there is something that you say "this time I'm gonna do it", but you don't. Thats because there are TIMES when the "nafs" is more receptive than others.

The merging of will and spirit (day and night) are the times given to us for salaat. The nighttime is for sleeping and the daytime we have other duties.
We need a balance between wakefulness and sleep to get the optimal receptive mode.

So yes, we can do this at any time, but its bes to obey the cycles for optimal performance, just like the farmer uses cycles to grow food.

                                    Peace be upon you Truth,

I disagree with the idiomatic understanding because there is a verse tha talks about private times which states that the first one is before dawn salaat and the last one is after dusk salaat.

                                      Peace be upon you Bilal,

                                      Peace

                                      For you

Salat fajr = programming between the fact of to find energy necessary to start a new day and the arrival of the paddle which marks the transition between the end night and the beginning day.

Salat 'Icha = programming between the arrival of the tiredness which announces fallen the night and thus the suitable moment to rest by the sleep.

I tested of summary what I have understand. tell me if I am mistaken

Salat 'Asr can means rest of after midday but there isn't a programming with the night or the day. How do you explain that?

Many verses seem to contradict the idea that the night is exclusiv made to
                                      sleep. and others...

Paddle? I dont understand what you wrote.

Sorry, it's not paddle but dawn

Sorry i will try to explain what I understand of your position about salat.

Salat ' Icha is the fact for a human to relax the body and spirit by the sleep at the favourable time i.e. in harmony with the darkness of the night in order to make a final result of the day and preparing the arrival of the dawn.

Salat Fajr is the fact for a human to begin the activity at the same moment as the arrival of the dawn. Ideal moment to harmonize the waking body and spirit with daylight announcing the beginning of a new day.

                                          Does it more clear?

What is salat asr? All I see is fajr and isha, where are you getting "asr"?

Sorry I would say salat of middle

(2547) And He is who made/put for you the night (as) a cover/dress, and the sleep (for) rest/sleep , and He made/put the daytime (for) revival .

                                          the "Muhsiniin" are definite here

They used to sleep but little of the night,

show that it's important for us to sleep at night whearas seems to show the opposite. Don't you see a contradiction?

Or maybe my understing is bad.
