As far as I can read that particular ayat, the answer is no, God did not need us to either serve or worship him. The ayat just mention that the true purpose in our life is to serve God, The Ultimate Truth. However, if we happen to choose not to, then it is also our freedom to do so.

I agree with the above, in fact there is another verses where Allah even DENIED that He needs our worshipping, I'm still looking for it

I agree with the above, in fact there is another verses where Allah even DENIED that He needs our worshipping, I'm still looking for it

I just don't get it
if someone wants to kill me, (war or not), why I will not be allowed to kill him in self defence?

oh yeh that religion name "Peace", therefore I have to stand still gettin killed as well bring the rest of the family to be killed with me as a matter of peacful and warm greating

Self defense is called "keeping the peace". When there is a virus in your body disturbing the peace, it is removed. Same way people who come here and use filthy language to people who are striving to gain knowledge will be removed.
I have yet to see any verse where a prophet or messenger spoke words of disrespect to another. The Good response is not equal to the bad response. Even Firaun was to be treated gently by Musa.
