no u wont drink poison buts its not exactly poision. Red wine apparently is good for the health so how is it poison?

And to give an extra side-note, RED-GRAPE JUICE is the healthy part, because the red colouring of the grapes is good for you, so you can get this from just drinking red-grape juice. No need to drink the wine version of red grapes.

I think sometimes it is also beneficial for the reader of Quran to keep in mind the intent of what God is revealing.

One is asked to ponder/think/reflect on the verse 2219 after the clear signs/revelations are given.

Hence in keeping with that spirit, i reflect

Things which are forbidden are strictly pointed out. Doing them implies repercussions in the hereafter. Then there are those things which are forbidden, but exceptions made in times of emergency. Next, you arrive at those things which are permitted, but with caveats (eg meat of the people of the Book). The caveats themselves are not absolutes and open to interpretation. Next there are things which are being evaluated on their net worth and the muslim asked to make a judgement call.

To me alcohol falls in the last category. For some personally there is a certain benefit of self-gratification, which by itself, if no harm is being done to oneself or the society, is not forbidden. The greater sin, if done in excess, is what the society as a whole will bear. So, the judgement of the entire society should prevail about its use and excess.

Alcohol has not stopped the advancement of any society which has permitted it. In fact it is quite the opposite. But unless you go to the hadiths, Quran is allowing a judgement call on gambling and alcohol. You would have to pull out the hadiths then to find more about alcohol. Those who do not value much the hadiths much (and i'm one of them) can be at peace with themselves that if God had wanted, alocohol and gambling would have been forbidden right away in no uncertain terms. There has to be some wisdom in what has not been forbidden with clarity.

It's then a matter of personal choice. I do not drink alcohol because i don't see any need for it. But i'm also not going to feel guilty if at a social gathering i'm handed a glass of wine. After all, God allows that judgement call at that point. If done with the proper intent and not in excess self-indulgence, i see no point in making unlawful for yourself what God did not make unlawful in the Quran.

With regrads to the prohibition of intoxicants in the Quran we read the following two premisses

1- God prohibited all 'ithm' (sin) 733

2- In intoxicants there is great 'Ithm' 2219

          therefore

3- Intoxicants are prohibited by God.
Salam....based on the above what we call a premise....thus we can see alcohol is forbidden.share your opinions bros n sis

          peace

            As salamu alaykum wr wb.
            Respectfully.

The Quran is clear when it comes to alcohol - alcohol is sin and we cannot approach the prayer while intoxicated, right? Right.
Now, when it comes to wine, The God says that there is some benefit in it but that the haram is much bigger.

The God knows that we will come to the age where and when the doctors will tell you that there is some benefit in the wine, so when The God told us that there is some benefit in the wine, The God basically told those people soemthing from our time, from the future!

I'll tell you what ask doctors or scientists if they can produce one single positive thing about alcohol. Do some heavy research on alcohol, is there any benefit in it, can a person make any proggress by drinking every day, finally what is the goal of alcohol once it i consumed?

Ask The God to guide you and give you understanding, wisdom.
May The God bless us all.
            As salamu alaykum.

Actually I have finished reading this article and I have a bias toward alcohol as I drink. However my own opinion is taking the verse in to consideration its OK to drink alcohol in moderation, so as-long as you're not totally out of your sense. And obviously the Qu'ran says don't pray when you're intoxicated as you don't really know what you're talking about or saying when you're under the influence. However, waiting 40 days before you can pray after you have smoked some weed or had a drink was always kinda strange to me.

If you don't drink, then its best to stay away from it, theirs no point starting. But I just don't want to quit drinking at the moment as I enjoy it for social purposes.

              Allah knows best.

Try an alchopop, that will not get you drunk unless your very sensitive to alcohol....After this i bet you will ask what all the fuss is about, one alchopop (one 330ml vk bottle.) will just relax you very slightly, two will relax you well. Its when folks drink too much or too often that problems can occur....First time i tried one alchopop hardly anything happened....Its a good way to relax and meet new people/socialise...

Lying and cheating is equated to a small drink!!!!????? False analogy by edip....what about alcohol in medicine,is that lying and cheating as well....How about abusing people in moderation by giving them 50 lashes to brutalise them only partially???!!!

I think the two verses from the quran with the word sin are adequate and made things clear regarding this topic.salam.

                            peace

Edip's analogy is wrong for other reasons. The fact of the matter is that ALL OF US, lie and cheat in moderation. We would love to think that we dont, but thats just not the reality of what we are. We should do whatever is in our power to avoid the kind that is abusive. We lie to avoid conflict, to please, etc.

How do you like that nice new sweater dad and i gave you? The fact is that this new sweater looks like something the dog dug up somwhere, but you still hear your mouth say " Its nice" if you are a truthfully "honest" person you might add "but its not really my style". NEVER will you say what you thought of first. Get me right on this, i belive alcohol to be a retardant. People who drink turn into slobbering idiots, even in small amounts. it is so intoxicating and in such a horrible way that it should have skulls on the labels.
