    Peace

Okay. When I say reaching out I mean it in a wide sense such as sacrificing to God, adhering to the system, et cetera. Anything that is an act of coming closer to union with the divine.

Yes Joe, you're correct in that. And ritual prayer may perhaps be a part of it, but in my opinion it is not mandatory to establishment of the system. In all essence, all your acts can be considered a form of worship depending on what you are doing and who/what you are intending to worship )

        Peace brother MaxQ

I guess you have not translated 7022-23 correctly, besides the verses 7022-35 are not definitions of Mussalleen.

From where did you get the following? Certainly not from the Quran.

        Quote Max Q

?Who are Musalle.- Those who always follow the Divine System.

..And those who consolidate and protect the Divine System. Musalleen are the ones

?.who collectively build it on earth

..salat means to follow or be a close runner up in establishing a system of life.

the Divine System of Life... i.e. following the Quran in every way, in all aspects of life, collectively and individually. That is Salaat.

?And ritual prayer may perhaps be a part of it, but in my opinion it is not mandatory to establishment of the system. In all essence, all your acts can be considered a form of worship depending on what you are doing and who/what you are intending to worship

          Peace

Prayer to most, apparently, and different other ideas are about. I think it is a process of reaching out.

          Joe

          Peace upon your heart Joe,

This carries a lot of what i understand of salaat!

          A spiritual reaching out!
          individually & collectively!

It is a shift of consciousness toward the DIVINE! a shift to CONNECT THE AWARENESS to THAT which connects everything together already.

          peace,

The spiritual reaching out or the connection is correct.

But do we write off or ignore all the physical aspects explained in the Quran for Salat.

              Peace Warner,

The content of salaat is like discovering the Eistein theory of relativity anf the form of salaat is like primary school mathematics!
I want to say this The content is as big as SUN and the form is as small as sand.

Loosing salaat is not the form of it. It is the content of it. IT IS ABOUT THE ESSENCE.

This content starts from getting straight from inside. Creating innocence within. recollecting. remembering. as joe says beautifully it is reaching out.

I HAVE NOT MET MANY MUSLIMS ASKING WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN WITHIN ME DURING SALAAT. WHICH PROCESS DO I GO THROUGH? MOST OF US ARE BUSY WITH FORM AND THAT IS WHERE WE GO WRONG. WE SEARCH WINE IN DRY GLASSES. We seach light in broken lamps. Let,s concentrate our quest toward the essence.
              we will talk more.

              peace,

I agree with you about the inner side of Salat and guess your explanation is excellent.
Also agree with Joe on the ?reaching out?.

While agreeing with you on the above I want to stress the importance of time specifics, purification, recitation and the tone, the discipline and the standing up with devout/fixed frame of mind all of which is explained in the Quran.

Please do not get me wrong . My humble opinion is a person as intelligent as you do not need Shabbir Ahmed to interpret the Quraan for you. What you need is a very clear mind a literal translation (unless you know Arabic very well) and your personal study of the Quran and its? words and usages within.

Bro, I did not say I am borrowing his interpretation... I can understand Arabic although I regularly consult translations as well. I am saying if you do not understand what I am saying, might want to consider reading about it from the QXP since it seems to be explained in greater detail... I happen to agree wit what he says about Salat and I do not think there is anything wrong with that.

                          Peace MaxQ

Salam siki, not sure if your name is Sikandar?
There is a word-for-word translation that bro Wakas posted a link to. I'll post it here (I hope he doesn't mind)
You should use it along with Lane's Lexicon for maximum understanding in my opinion (which too I think is from Wakas' site)

Bro warner, please don't mind my previous post. I was not intending to lash out or anything, but seems it came out rather impolite.

                              Peace Siki

Unfortunately, I have come across only 3 literal translations and no perfect ones.

1.The literal translation along with 17 other translations at www.islamawakened.com

2.www.textinmotion.com (The literal is incomplete but has the word root etc usage search )

3.By Zaheen Fathima Beig www.quraninenglish.com (The one which maxq recommended)

Since I am not fluent in Arabic I use all 3 above (I recommend in the above order and must say, all 3 has flaws) and Lanes Lexicon at PRL online (which maxq posted above). Each Root word in PRL gives the link to the original Lanes pages in PDF. If you really want to learn the meanings you must check Lane?s pages. Along with the above I use Concise Dictionary of the Hebrew Bible by James Strong. This gives the Hebrew and Aramaic word and the Root and their usages in the Bible. It?s available in the net free (PDF) and very easy to use. Since these 3 are related languages and the relationship of the 2 Books you will not regret having Strongs Hebrew Dictionary in your PC.

Another piece of advice is do not trust any translation or even a Lexicon 100%.

Again I do not want to sound like an expert, I think Wakas can assist us more on this.

The root = Sad-Lam-Waw is used in the following verses with direct meanings such as reach , joined/connect and touch ( and indirect meanings of approach , come near) leading to my opinion that Salat should be reaching out or connect/connection. This is the opinion of some others in this board as well.

                                  490, 6136, 1170, 1181, 227, 1321(twice), 1325, 2835, 2851

The example about the horse as Al Mussalli has no basis in the Quran and also in a race when the second horse ?follows the first one so closely that its head always overlaps the first horse?s body? the second horse is "reaching" or "reached" the first horse. Besides it is a race it is not about following one another. The meaning is reaching not going past or being behind. If any of those happen it will not be Al Mussalli any more.

I don't think I disagree with you even when I hold my opinion which leads me to believe that reaching to is like tending to... I think we are approaching (reaching to) the same concept from different directions.

The question referrin to masturbation is this, I have a few muslim female friends who are pious muslims but admit to masturbation, now my question is, if you have sexual intercourse between man and woman obviously one has to bathe, if you masturbate wots the etiquette in order to be in front of allah whilst performing salaat?

                                      Hello

Ejaculation for men and (women - not sure if they also ejaculate) is called in the Quran Junub, Allah in 65 ordered us to do Wudu by washing a specific body parts, however He told us that if we are Junub then we need to "Ittaharro" without specifying which body part, therefore it has to mean the whole body, i.e. if you masterbate and reach orgasm you need to bath

                                      Salam
