What does the Quran say about....

Peace be upon you,
I PM?ed idolfree.
I was reminding people it was free-minds in case people forget, and it's an easy mistake to make.
Threads stay on longer in the first page in this section, which may be uncomfortable for some people, so i thought you wont gonna move it.
I first asked the thread to be moved on 20th March, it is 3rd April today, So i thought you wont gonna move it.
Anyways thanks for moving it. handshake

Destroying embryos for research proposes
Kill not your children for fear of want We shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you. Verily the killing of them is a great sin. (1731)
In this case the "want" seems to be the want for finding a cure for various diseases. The Holy Quran is saying that however noble the objective is, the means cannot be justified if they are immoral. The answer is to beseech Allah Taala for every distress and use means which are permissible. -
being cruel to animals
Treat with kindness your parents and kindred, and orphans and those in need (283)
In this case those in need may refer to animals, who are also subject to us as mentioned in the Holy Quran We made animals subject to you, that ye may be grateful (2236)- Killing an abortion doctor (technically speaking an abortion doctor is a mass murderer)
Take not life, which Allah hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law. (6151)
In this case, the abortion doctor has taken life which Allah has made sacred, and the recompense of an injury is an injury the like thereof (6160).- Having a sex change
(Satan said) "I will mislead them, and I will create in them false desires; I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and to deface the (fair) nature created by Allah." (4119)
Sex change is therefore condemned as it is a desire inflicted by Satan to change the nature of the creation which Allah Taala has made.- Killing insects/spiders for fun
At length, when they came to a (lowly) valley of ants, one of the ants said "O ye ants, get into your habitations, lest Solomon and his hosts crush you (under foot) without knowing it." So he (Solomon) smiled, amused at her speech; and he said "O my Lord! so order me that I may be grateful for Thy favours, which thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may work the righteousness that will please Thee And admit me, by Thy Grace, to the ranks of Thy righteous Servants." (2718-19)
So this explains that when Suleman (alaihi salaam) became aware of the ants, he did not crush them, and furthermore beseeched Allah to keep him righteous.- Fox hunting / Bull fighting
Lawful unto you are (all) things good and pure and what ye have taught your trained hunting animals (to catch) in the manner directed to you by Allah (54)
This is a clear commandment that you can only hunt those animals which Allah has made lawful. The fox is not lawful and therefore cannot be hunted.- Wrestling / Boxing / violent sports
As far as I know the Holy Quran is silent on this issue. However, the Holy Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa salaam) used to watch his Ethiopian companions play a particular game with eachother involving spears, which meant he approved of it.
- If you were in a life and death situation and nearly starved to death is it permissible to eat a dead body?
But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits, then is he guiltless (2173)
- Women dancing in public
And that they (women) should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments (2431)
In conclusion, I would just advise that though the Holy Quran is a guideline for righteous behaviour, every minute detail and every possible scenario has not been addressed in it. If one does not find the answer in the Holy Quran, he should resort to the Sunnat, and if he cannot find the answer there, he should use his best judgment.

Peace "yusha",
Abortion is a tricky issue. The pt is at wht stage is it human being. The Quran gives us a clue
Then we developed the drop into a hanging (embryo), then developed the hanging (embryo) into a bite-size (fetus), then created the bite-size (fetus) into bones, then covered the bones with flesh. THEN produce a new creature. Most blessed is GOD, the best Creator.
Here all the orders are already correct indicating tht int the above context "thumma(which is not always used as then)" means therafter/then here. So it is not a human and hence not the sacred life before the last embryonic stage mentioned above is reached. This would also allow for embryonic stem cell reasearch which i fully support. Infact if you look it scientifically the first stages of the human embryo are less valuable than the already formed life of even a fly because its mere cells at tht point. GOD Bless! -
Even if the the embryo does not yet have a soul, disturbing the natural process cannot be allowed, and therefore I strongly oppose embryonic stem cell research.
-
Peace "yusha",
Even if the the embryo does not yet have a soul, disturbing the natural process cannot be allowed, and therefore I strongly oppose embryonic stem cell research.
JK- Ok then u might as well not use experiment with animals in the lab or do any sorts of opertations or medication since all is a deviation from the otherwise present processes and we might throw all tht reserach down the bin. The Quran is on the side of science as it should be and the above verse has a reason to be phrased in tht way and it doesnt talk abt merely a soul(which is infact a particular neural combination if wer to go with science) but the whole creature. Ever thght of tht? BTW did u notice ur now siding with Biblical creationists who claim the same instead of the Quran? Wht an irony? Another proof tht the Quran aint important for you to ponder on. GOD Bless!

Salaam,
Thank you, Yusha that is most helpful. handshake
We are now left with the following
- Sperm/egg donations
- Sex with animals
- A man/woman marrying an intersex
- Tell a white lie as long as it does not harm anyone
- Leave your inheritance money to your pet
- If someone threatens to kill you if you do not get involved in an illicit sexual activity they tell you to participate in, is it better to die or go along with it?
- "Self-harm" as a way of coping with problems
- Hugging a member of the opposite sex
- Showing a doctor (who is not the same sex as you) an excess amount of flesh for medical reasons.
Number 2 bugs me the most, when it comes to questioning Quranic divinity that one makes me waver the most hmm.
peace

Number 2 bugs me the most, when it comes to questioning Quranic divinity that one makes me waver the most
Ok there. I don't expect you want the Holy Quran to say tie your shoelaces so you dont trip as well. Somethings are common sense (i.e. number 2)
-
salaam,
Put it in the category of "sex outside marriage",
rotfl
Or maybe you mean marrying an animal? Because that happens rotfl
Yup I've heard many stories about that too. I always knew love was blind but I did not realise it was dumb too. ;D
Ok there. I don't expect you want the Holy Quran to say tie your shoelaces so you dont trip as well. Somethings are common sense (i.e. number 2)
Yusha the bible prohibits sex with animals, so why does the Quran leave this vital piece of information out?
The Quran is about morals, whether I choose to tie my shoe laces or not is none of anybodies business.
-
peace Angel,
The Quran is about morals, whether I choose to tie my shoe laces or not is none of anybodies business.
If people thought it was mentioned in the Quran, they would make it their business.
Just think, if you don't tie your shoe laces you can trip and fall, so you are hurting yourself, and you are setting a bad example for others, so there has to be a legal punishment (just like adultery and premarital sex). The quran really isn't fully detailed. Everything can be a moral issue. Everything can be a matter of getting closer to god or moving away. Every choice we make affects our future.
I would say that the quran doesn't go into specifics, and just tells us about how we know what's right and wrong. But it does go into specifics on some matters, like the popular topics of sex and pornography and adultery. And it tells us how to deal with bad spouses and thieves and disbelievers.
So I can't really say that. I think that it would make more sense if we take all of these issues symbolically, as if they taught us something about our self. I dunno. So because most of the time I have no idea what the quran is saying, here is what I say
-
sperm/egg donations.
Is anyone being harmed? Unless you donate to a scumbag, no. So, it's perfectly fine to do so. -
Sex with animals
Fine, as long as you two are married.
Just kidding.
I don't think you can have children with animals, so I don't think anyone, including nature, is being harmed.
Unless it is obsessive, I guess you could do it if you really wanted to. I wouldn't tell anyone, though. -
A man/woman marrying an intersex
I have no idea what the hell an intersex is, but, yeah, go ahead.
- Tell a white lie as long as it does not harm anyone
Lies can be good. Just stay away from the black ones. And the jewish ones.
- Leave your inheritance money to your pet
It's your money, isn't it?
But think about how you got that money. Wouldn't it be better to pay it back? or help someone who really needs it? Unless your fortune amounts to no more than a penny, giving it to your pet isn't such a good idea.- If someone threatens to kill you if you do not get involved in an illicit sexual activity they tell you to participate in, is it better to die or go along with it?
I'd go with the (guilt free!) sex.
But seriously, I don't know the answer to this. What's worse...death? or some misfortune in the future for someone else? It would depend on the situation.- "Self-harm" as a way of coping with problems
I think seeing a doctor or talking to someone is a much better option. No point in ruining your life and possibly others' too.
- Hugging a member of the opposite sex
Depends entirely on who that person is and what type of a huge it is. Hugging your male friend if you're a female is no big deal.
- Showing a doctor (who is not the same sex as you) an excess amount of flesh for medical reasons.
Pick one
- Disease, and potential death.
- Being naked in front of someone.
(HINT pick #2)
But if the doctor's hot, I'd do it for no reason.

Peace Angel
If you think that an animal can volunatarily go about a contract with you and understand that contract then go on and marry one. The quran, like nature, has many teachings which are all connected in some way. I suggest you develop a general understanding of it and gradually piece things together. Also if I use some common sense, I doubt my genetic material would survive long if I try to mate with some creature of the earth which is not human. It's almost like trying to have a child with a barren woman. I understand that the quran is a guidance to salvation so no I will not find therein the knowledge of nuclear power, or a how-to guide to anything other than salvation or damnation.

If you think that an animal can volunatarily go about a contract with you and understand that contract then go on and marry one.
and dont get any funny ideas, I aint considering any of the above ;D, I?m just curious. confused
Nabi the question was sex, not marriage.
One thing the Quran does not condemn but should is the following hypothetical situation
There are 5 people that need an organ transplant.
The surgeon sees a healthy person in the waiting room.
He kills the healthy guy to save the 5 patients.
He justifies what he does according to; 532 And anyone who spares a life, it shall be as if he spared the lives of all the people.
And the Islamic state cannot punish him coz they follow the laws of the Quran ALONE!
lol this hypothetical situation amuses me a lot. ;D
I have no idea what the hell an intersex is, but, yeah, go ahead.
An intersex is a person that is neither strictly male or female, but something in between.
http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intersexuality
It's your money, isn't it?
I just want to know if it can ever be justified in Islam.
47 The men get a share of what the parents and the relatives leave behind. The women too shall get a share of what the parents and relatives leave behind. Whether it is a small or a large inheritance, (the women must get) a definite share.
48 During distribution of the inheritances, if relatives, orphans, and needy persons are present, you shall give them therefrom, and treat them kindly.
411 GOD decrees a will for the benefit of your children; the male gets twice the share of the female. If the inheritors are only women, more than two, they get two-thirds of what is bequeathed. If only one daughter is left, she gets one-half. The parents of the deceased get one-sixth of the inheritance each, if the deceased has left any children. If he left no children, and his parents are the only inheritors, the mother gets one-third. If he has siblings, then the mother gets one-sixth. All this, after fulfilling any will the deceased has left, and after paying off all debts. When it comes to your parents and your children, you do not know which of them is really the best to you and the most beneficial. This is GOD's law. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.
412 You get half of what your wives leave behind, if they had no children. If they had children, you get one-fourth of what they leave. All this, after fulfilling any will they had left, and after paying off all debts. They get one-fourth of what you leave behind, if you had no children. If you had children, they get one-eighth of what you bequeath. All this, after fulfilling any will you had left, and after paying off all debts. If the deceased man or woman was a loner, and leaves two siblings, male or female, each of them gets one-sixth of the inheritance. If there are more siblings, then they equally share one-third of the inheritance. All this, after fulfilling any will, and after paying off all debts, so that no one is hurt. This is a will decreed by GOD. GOD is Omniscient, Clement.
4176 They consult you; say, "GOD advises you concerning the single person. If one dies and leaves no children, and he had a sister, she gets half the inheritance. If she dies first, he inherits from her, if she left no children. If there were two sisters, they get two-thirds of the inheritance. If the siblings are men and women, the male gets twice the share of the female." GOD thus clarifies for you, lest you go astray. GOD is fully aware of all things.
I think seeing a doctor or talking to someone is a much better option. No point in ruining your life and possibly others' too.
People that self-harm see it as a way to relieve stress, they report feeling euphoric when cutting themselves, what they do to their own body is their own business.
Pick one
- Disease, and potential death.
- Being naked in front of someone.
(HINT pick #2)
But if the doctor's hot, I'd do it for no reason.
I mean option #1.
-
peace Angel,
I don't think the quran can support a government. There are a lot of things that are private, and are no one's bussiness except the person doing them. Like the self harm thing you said. The quran tells you, as an individual, what is good for you and what is not. Or at least it attempts to.
Sex with an intersexual person? perfectly fine.
Getting naked in front of the doctor? why not? It's a matter of your health. I'd rather suffer through an embarrasing moment than be sick and possibly die!I mean option #1.
Didn't get what you mean there.
About the money, I have absolutely NO idea how God came up with that method to distribute money. All I know is, I don't get it. I'll give my money to whom I think needs it most. If it's my pet, so be it.
Your situation doesn't really work.
532 says, "if anyone SPARES a life." Not "if anyone takes a life."
It would apply to the doctor if he was sparing someone's life, not saving it. -
Peace angel
If Allah say?s his book is fully detailed, I would expect it to be fully detailed?
Just saw this now , no time to read if anybody answered.
My 2pence
"fully detailed" can either mean that all you need to take your own decisions is there. The outcome shouldn't always be the same, as situations are not the same - or situations might be the same, but the intentions differs - which imo changes everything.
Or it could be that the book - al kitab - means "the universe" instead of the physical book quran, and in this case everything is in it (the universe). Why do you expect an existing rule for everything? (If you do so, if i got u wrong due to lack of time reading this thread, sorry.) We humans need space to grow, if there are no questions left, one will never search for answers, or the reason behind the rules.

Peace be upon you Phoenix1 and Elke,
I don't think the quran can support a government.
Check the QXP translation; it's all about an Islamic constitution.
http//www.ourbeacon.com/7101.html
About the money, I have absolutely NO idea how God came up with that method to distribute money.
Do you believe that the Quran is the word of god?
I didn't think you did.
Why do you expect an existing rule for everything?
The things that I really want to know about is #1 Sperm/egg donations and #2 Sex with animals.
#1 having a child out of wedlock is not allowed, so i suppose it would be prohibited.
#2 The bible repeatedly prohibits this, this is not prohibited in the quran, not once, of course no sane person would have sex with an animal but it really does bother me that the quran does not appear to specifically prohibit it, unless it's meaning is hidden somewhere that I have failed to notice it?
God bless
peace -
Peace angel,
concerning the private parts, we are supposed to only show them (use them - have sex) with our spouses or those that are linked to us through an oath (MMA). I do not think this can be the case with any animal. Concerning my pets, i promised (myself) that i'll take good care of them, but they are not bound to me by any oath. The marriage / oath is (imho) reciprocal and as such cannot include an animal.
About the prohibition of having a child out of wedlock... well, i believe that once this child is on its way, it would be an even greater sin to abort for this reason, because of what the people would say... It's like covering a sin with an even bigger one - but this is not the issue here is it
Sperm/egg donation It really is a difficult issue. These things did not exist (at least not in our modern ways) at the time of revelation. Personally i apply my beloved theory of rules that can evolve but morals that stay An example the 3 month waiting period before remarriage reason behind the rule (imo) is to know exactly, if there is or not a child "on the way". Nowadays we can have pregnancy tests, so i don't see the use of this rule in itself - but of the idea that if baby there is, people should reconsider if they really want to break up / divorce, and also to know exactly who fathered the baby.
I don't approve of these crazy sperm donations, 50 dollars each, where men fathered may be 100 children for money. But i can approve of human cases where donation is made in order to solve a human problem for someone, and with the necessary openness around it, so that the child may understand later where exactly it comes from.Elke
-
The things that I really want to know about is #1 Sperm/egg donations and #2 Sex with animals.
I don't believe sperm and egg donations are covered even from a broad perspective I'll look more carefully when I get to work and have my Quran translation at my disposal. Therefor cannot be considered in a religious sense, one simply must use their own best judgement.
Sex with animals is covered. Read carefully the story of Lot, there is one specific phrase repeated in almost all of the occurances of Lot's people that is readily used against homosexuality. It would also covers this to a degree. Elke also makes a good point above.
-
Peace Angel
Nabi the question was sex, not marriage.
This is why I suggested you have a general understanding of the quran. In a society based on it people would not be having sex unless they were married because it would be in contradition to the quranic system.
One thing the Quran does not condemn but should is the following hypothetical situation
Your situation here does not make sense. First of all if you spare a life (singular) and decide to take a life, how is that sparing that life? Your situation is more in the line of "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" and not of the verse which you are using to justify the situation you presented.
I'm not sure if I find it funny that you are using a bad interpretation of the quran for your bemusement. Let's not be intransigent and keep away from such behavior .
Joe
