    Peace Angel

Because the references I give are from memory. I know what a verse has explained, but have not necessarily memorized the verse. For example, I know of the unique nature of God expressed in 112/1-4 and can refer you to those verses, but from memory I cannot recall the verse word for word. So I think it would help if I at least pointed out where I was getting my ideas so you could check them for yourself. Apparently you do not seem fine with that and need more from me, but usually that is all I will give. I also do not wish to take up more space than necessary by quoting verses.

Anyways Allah should be a bit more specific.

I think you should be a bit more patient and investigative. I think you would not be confused if you understood that sex outside of marriage is a contradiction to the quran's teachings and so having sex with an animal makes no sense.

        peace Angel,

Check the QXP translation; it's all about an Islamic constitution.

Yea, I know. I generally like their translation, but I don't agree with their view of the quran as a constitution. And I think they try to make it a little too "scientific."
I don't see how the quran would work as a constitution, and even if you can make a perfect constitution of out it, according to the quran itself, the majority won't follow it.

Do you believe that the Quran is the word of god?

        I didn't think you did.

Well, I'm totally against the idea that God wrote the quran, and then sent it down with a messenger who would preach it.
Is it divinely inspired? as the quran claims it is? That's entirely debatable. But I can't make a good argument for either side unless I make sense out of it, which seems rather impossible. I'm willing to give the quran the benefit of the doubt since I have found really good lessons in it (shown to me by other people, though), but it's possible that some parts of it just don't work today.
And what the quran says isn't anything new. What it talks about is as old as mankind itself. That's why it's a "reminder." And it even says that it tells us the truths we already possess.
So even if the quran is the holy word of God, I don't need it.

#1 having a child out of wedlock is not allowed, so i suppose it would be prohibited.

I think if you want to have a child (the traditional way) you need two things
A committed partner, regardless of whether you've signed a contract or gone through a ritual or not.
And a committment to the child. I hate it when women have kids and then leave it to others to raise them. Don't have kids if you don't want to raise them!
But you dont' really need a partner to have children. You can adopt, or go with artificial insemination.
So I guess it depends on whether you can raise the child on your own or not. If you financial position is good, and you can spend enough time with the child, and you can teach them the right things, without getting married, then that's great. If you think you can't raise them properly, then it's not such a good idea. Because you'll be ruining that child's life.

JK- I strongly believe tht the majority will follow it one day if a rational and scientific translation such as tht at ourbeacon.com is brought up. Wer just at the start. I dont see any reason as to why this would not happen since the Quran is all about human rights and how to protect them and society as a whole. GOD Bless!

One thing that?s really irritating about the quran is that it is quite literally written in riddles, it just jumps form one subject to the next, back and forth. It would help if it was written like a ?normal? book.

The fact that it?s a multiple meaning scripture makes the whole thing mind boggling.

56/79 None can grasp it except the pure.

The paradox is that if you are ?pure? then understanding the quran would be pointless, coz you would be purified anyway?.

JK- Infact for me tht was one of the intriguing parts of the Quran which made me think of it as a unique book even whilst being a sunni. A normal book would become boring soon. This way one is never bored. And ive noticed the more one engages in rationaility, the more responsive the Quran would be whilst the more irrational or lazy to study it you get, the more obscure it would seem. And the amazing thing is tht ppl who have engaged in independendent study of the Quran, like many here, have shown both traits. Fantastic aint it?

JK- A better trans wld be "None can grasp it but the SINCERE". But again this is only one statement out of many. If you consider the complete picture the Quran is understood by those who are sincere as well as apply rational thought and the scientific method. As far as the multiple meanings are concerned this is becuae of "the ambiguity in any language". It an intrinsic property of every language to be ambiguous in one way or another. This is exactly the reason why one needs to "connect the dots" i.e. consider the context or the whole scripture as for the Quran in order to get to understand it properly. GOD Bless!

It looks as though the quran allows parents to neglect their duty?

2233 If the (divorced) mothers wish to nurse their infants, the father shall
provide for the mother?s sustenance and clothing equitably up to two years of
nursing. No human being shall be burdened with more than he or she is well
able to bear. No mother shall be made to suffer because of her child, nor shall
a father be made to suffer because of his child. If the father dies, his heir will
assume these responsibilities. If both parents decide with mutual consent, there shall be nothing wrong in entrusting your children to foster-mothers. There shall be nothing wrong if you ensure, in a fair manner, the safety of the child you are handing over. Be mindful of Allah?s Laws and know that Allah is Seer of all that you do.

                  I believe they are, yes.

I have very little in the way of an innate sense of right and wrong.. I know legal, and illegal, I know allowed, and not allowed.

There are some things I know and believe are WRONG but I know that for others they dont even have the handful I have. I am basically amoral.

                  Peace,

I don't really care what happens in the future. What OurBeacon is doing is great, and I support them, as long as they don't start following the Quran blindly. Which I think they're already doing to an extent, meaning that they believe a certain interpretation can be wrong, but what's written in the book in black and white cannot be wrong. We always have to consider the possibility that this book has been corrupted, or just wasn't perfect from the start.
I wish you all the best in trying to create a perfect state, where everyone believes in the truth, but it's not happening right now. That's my point. If the quran is only for a time when we have this Quranic state, then it's of no use to me, because I live in a very un-quranic state.
And you can always make people believe in the truth, but even then they'll just be following conjecture, not thinking for themselves. So in god's eyes they are still idiots.

Of course the quran says it's OK, because it was written 1400 years ago.
There were no condoms back then, no birth control pills, so if you had sex, that meant that you could very well be expecting a baby.
I think it's the right thing to do (to give up your baby) if you don't have any means of supporting it. I think it's better than killing the baby, or making it live with you in misery.
But today, women have the option of getting pregnant or not. The right thing to do, if you know you can't afford a baby, is to not have one.

JK- I believe it is supposed to be entertaing too. GOD would know which style would stimulate the brains most.

i often get bored reading the Quran.

JK- Theres no one answer to tht. 1) Human beings tend to forget or ignore things whilst getting lost in what they term as thneir daily duties. The Quran stimulates people to rethink their situation, apply rational thought and employ the scientific method. 2) the knowledge of right and wrong comes through experience and once one has enough evidence tht a crtain scripture is from GOD, then one can accept those laws mentioned in it to make progress more easy.

there are hundreds of sincere translators, all with conflicting translations....

JK- 1) How do you know they are all sincere? At least i bevleive the sunni/shia sectraian ones aint. 2) If those who independently study the Quran and translate it still run into conflict this only shows the progress of understanding the Quan hasnt ended yet, infact it has just begun to start. We are a long way from understanding all of the Quran and we as Quran Aloners want other people to tell us with their independent research what certian Quranic verses mean. This way wed have the best possible understanding GW. GOD Bless!

JK- Bro at the moment there is no reason to beleive that the Quran was corrupted because there is high probability to the contrary. If however there would popup major discrepancies in the mathemtcial code or the meaning even though classcal arabic, grammar and context have been taken into account, THEN and only then would it be resonable to doubt the Quran. Its the same with evolution or big bang. I have absolutely no reason to doubt any of the three, though i give all of them the benefit of doubt if irrefutable contrary evidence pops up.

I wish you all the best in trying to create a perfect state, where everyone believes in the truth, but it's not happening right now. That's my point. JK- In the Quran Only society it is people who have GW through their own rational thinking and application of the scientific method, come up with a high probability of the truth.

Of course the quran says it's OK, because it was written 1400 years ago.

JK- For ur info their were condom like things even in ancient Egypt. Now there are two points 1) Despite this even whilst using a condom it can still break due to friction, 2) It is not clear whether the term "zina" usually translated as adultery applies only to sex without using a condom or not but in refernce to point one i believe this is also to be considered.

I think it's the right thing to do (to give up your baby) if you don't have any means of supporting it. I think it's better than killing the baby, or making it live with you in misery.

JK- This is correct and ive found no verse in the Quran which prohibits family planning. Even if the fetus aint developed to a certain pt(id say when brain neurons have joined and functioning as well as heart beating) then one can also abort and use the cells for stem cell research. This is indicated by the following verse
Then we developed the drop into a hanging (embryo), then developed the hanging (embryo) into a bite-size (fetus), then created the bite-size (fetus) into bones, then covered the bones with flesh. THEN we produce a new creature. Most blessed is GOD, the best Creator.
So once again we can only see how rational and scientific the Quran really is. GOD Bless!

sincere is not a good translation for that word at all...

                          al mTHrwn - check out the root T H r 1, 2, 3

and angel - about foster mothers, most people interpret that as wet nurses, ie women who are paid to suckle an infant in lieu of the mother. not an excuse to neglect your kids. don't jump to conclusions and watch out for the translations

and jonny... you just used it to justify aborting a faetus for stem cell research? they don't give you a mask in your job at the paint factory or what? that's some fine verse choppin goodness right there

JK- Strange! Are you approaching the Quran with an open and rational mind?

yes, to the best of my abilities.

But that may be the problem, in my Sunni days whenever I read the Quran which was contaminated with loads of ahadith I found it more ?interesting? probably coz it was like a fairytale that I believed was true at that time.

This rational approach is boring because it?s ?common sense?, as if I need to be told the difference between right or wrong! I already know. England is IMO very similar to a Quranic state, creating paradise on earth via betterment of society, leading a righteous life, not violating human rights, fighting injustice, progressing in science are common sense, we don?t need a book to tell us that, we implement it anyway.

How do you know they are all sincere?

how do you know they wont?

And Aaron most translations I checked said ?foster-mother? and not ?wet-nurse?

                                      Peace "angel",

yes, to the best of my abilities.

JK- Well if you follow and understand all these laws then good for you. Everyone doesnt and it is not common sense the way you state it. Laws can be very complex and it takes time for people to get there. Its like anyone can ultimtely through one way or another derive the circle's circumference/diameter constant "pi" over time but if told the right methods by other whor already experieced in mathemtics it becomes much more easy for others to comprehend how and do it themselves. Also the Quran still has statements which we dont yet fully understand like there being seven heavens, certain info which could be relating to wormholes, the dangers of male homosexuality(discussed heavily by others and myself on this very forum), angels/forces of nature experiecen a period the measure of which is 50000 years possibly relative to us and quite a number of other things. GOD Bless!
