      Salam all,

Please have a look at this verse 4615.
(Notice that it covers the same subject as 1723)

Samia, I am not saying that the command is for the prophet alone and not relevant to us. BIG NO!. I am questioning the ahlul hadith here why they suddenly exclude the prophet in the singular "you" in verse 1723. The prophet was the first to receive the revelations so why suddenly he is being excluded? If the reason is because by not excluding the prophet, quran will contradict hadiths then that is really biased approach to quran. We should read quran first and then read hadiths in light of quran and NOT the other way around (read hadiths first and try to interpret quran in such a way to fit hadiths).

        Salaam ade

Of course that's not what I meant. It seems that sometimes I remember people's posts more than they do ;D. I was referring to this

And then at the age of forty, he became the prophet after receiving the revelations for the first time. And ever since the prophet received revelations, he taught it to the people until he died at the age of around sixty.

That is from my memory. And if you want references, there are many out there such as
        http//www.cyberistan.org/islamic/muhammad.html

That's why I was confused ( confused) at Leoxyz's comment to that post (which seems now you shared the same understanding with him), which I found off point; but that was Leoxyz.

          Peace hlatif and everyone,

Since you all use logic in understanding the Qur'an, then how come you cannot agree on anything related to the simplest Qur'anic statements of Salat HAJJ and so on. True logic does not lead to disunity. It leads to unity. What you got then is poor understanding or poor logic or both.

It seems that most of those who can't agree on anything are new members in FM. On the other hand, it seems that most of those who are long term members agree on many things.

Perhaps the reason why many new members can't agree on much is because they have little knowledge regarding the teachings of the Quran. There is a quote by Bruce Lee which goes like this

"Put every great teacher together in a room, and they'd agree about everything; put their disciples in there and they'd argue about everything."

            Great quote.

As to the gist of this thread, I must say also that I can't see anything wrong with not agreeing on everything or even inmany things. Of it is something that each person can do or think without opressing others, what is the problem? I can't see the problem. Disagreement is a fact of life and the source of much thought. It is quarrelsomeness that is a problem not respectful disagreement.

And disagreement is by far much bettr than imposition and forcing things on people who cannot see their point and find them objectionable.

In fact going by our friend Bruce Lee quote there is nothing wrong with puils disagreeing provided they know and acknowledge that they are just pupils, not masters.

An in front of God we are all pupils.

            Salaam

Salam all, I have been doubtful about the life of Prophet Muhammad when he received the revelation and faced his companions if his companions asked him to make clear about the verses. I believed that there were companions couldn't understand clearly about some verses and needed the Prophet explain it it. However, in my point of view, I think that the prophet should explain to them, and would be model, and performed among companions. Later on the practice of the Prophet was told to many companions so called Prophetic tradition. Wallahu'alum, Allah has known best.
