A big problem among the Muslims of today is the unfounded segregation and distancing pf the sexes. All healthy interaction is barred and this has lead to many negative consequences.

I am writing an article on the sort of interaction believing men and believing women should have based on the Qur'an.

I am looking for any Verses that could remotely suggest shed light on this, as well as the more aparent ones.

You may have encountered Verses which got you thinking around this topic, so if you know any, please quote/give reference here.

Many thanks. ) I will share the piece I write once I am done, inshallah.

As a general remark, it is important what is written. But what is not written is just as important. The fact that there is so much about women and men in the Qur'an but that there is no clear or general injunctions stating that women and men should avoid each other speaks for itself. If such a thing was was intended, it should have been written. If it is not written it is not intended. It cannot be an oversight or an invitation to infer. The qur'an doesn't hesitate to state that pork is forbidden and fornication is forbidden, why then, while it is at it, it doesn't say that women and men should avoid each other everywhere?

It is the same with Bilqis. Some people say women cannot be heads of state, but the Qur'an praises unreservedly the Queen of the Sabians (Is there any other head of state that is praised inthe Qur'an? I can't remember off hand). If women were not meant to be head of state, it was here, when talking about the Queen of Sabians, where it should have stated it, that although she was so good, muslim women should not be as good or cannot be as good, because God forbids that women should be heads of state. Is it thinkable that God would mislead us making the highest praise of a queen and not stating at the same time that she sholdn't have been queen? Because nowhere else in the Qur'an such a thing is stated either. Where in the Qur'an does it say that merit should be judged differently depending on sex? Where?

There is 9.71. Male believers and female believers are protectors one of another; they enjoin what is just and forbid what is evil;...

So how are females and males to protect, enjoin, forbid mutually... by remote control? by telephone? keeping a full staff of mahrams as go between? I suppose it could be, but the question is not whether it could or could not be, but whether the Qur'an envisages, recommends or enjoins such a thing. It doesn't. And back in the aya about dress, the Qur'an is detailed, as much as it wants to be detailed, and goes on to a lengthy relation of those people in fornt of whom modesty requirements can be relaxed. Why in 9.71 or anywhere else regarding this we do not get any statement of any particular requirement as to how males and females should protect, and enjoin and forbid mutually.

And when the Qur'an says to males what they earned and to females what they earned. Did women, but not men, earn to be burdened with any limitations and constraints anybody may can come up with? Did women earn a curtailment of their freedom? If they have not, then they should have not a little bit of freedom less than what males are allowed. Someone here talked about equitable. If men have rights over women for the sake of virtue, women have the same rights over men for the sake of virtue, and there is not way around it. If somebody wants to transgress, then he or she should know that depriving people of what they earn and opressing them is indeed trangression and oppression of believers.

        Salaam

                    Peace all

please don't take it this (restrictive) way. In real life, men and women can have any interaction they wish. If they are believers they will avoid what they consider forbidden.

                        Thanks,

I do appreciate that it is not always about what is said, but also what is not said. I agree with Elke that men and women can interact, but they avoid what is forbidden.

But the reason why I need Verses is because my article is targetted towards the mass of Muslims who quote other sources to restrict interaction. I therefore can only do this by quoting Verses. Not quoting Verses means they can bring something out of somewhere that is not from the Qur'an. I can only disprove them by quoting something from the Qur'an.

I will post the article once I have a final draft of it done. I already have lots of Verses in there alhamdulillah, but there are sometimes Verses which havent been noticed that may shed more light to refute the unfounded retrictions they have put on men and women interacting.

                        peace.

Peace all. One question. Does quran mention queen of sheba's name as bilqis?
From what i understood from the q o s story is that solomon couldn't accept to see a female idol worshipper rule. So he had to impress by miracles. But solomon was a prophet, by thus impressing her with his miracles, he made her a monotheist too. Please note that he made his servants bring HER kingdom to HIS kingdom. Thus she would simply be his queen, the queen of HIS kingdom. So this story doesnt prove at all that quran approves of female rulers. Also why the quran doesnt mention any female prophets?

No, I don't think the Qu'ran does gives her name, but as far as is known, was Bilqis.
And YES the Qur'an portrays her as a wise and powerful ruler who commanded the respect of her advisors. Suleymand in that part is portraid as very knowledgeable in spiritual things, but not so much as wise ruler. There is then a narration of a throne brought by afarit to test Bilqis, but nowhere there is winniest inlking that she may have rennounced her kingdom and become his Queen, and in fact, there I feel as you were telling me some pink media love story of the European royalty. What has that to do with Qur'an, for God's sake? What the Qur'an does say is

And she said My Sustainer, I have indeed wronged my soul (because of idol worship) and with Suleyman I submit to God, Sustainer of the Universes.

So she doesn't give her rule to Suleyman, but they both together submit to the Sustainer of the Universes.

It is in 27.22 onward. Some of the narration may have symbolical meanings.

As to Profets mentioned in the Qur'an, in fact Maryam is mentioned in the same grouping as some of the mos prominent and I have not studied it myself, but some consider that according to the reading of the Qur'an she is indeed a profet. Also I dont't if all those who are considered profets are so called in the Qur'an or if only their names are said and it is left to the reader to consider. I don't know whether somebody has checked or not. Be it as it may, God does not say anywhere he has or never will send a woman as a messenger or that only men have been messengers, and Maryam is definitely so considered by people who have studied the question. And even if there had only been men messengers, I wonder what is the importance of it, that they be men or women doesn't change a thing. However indeed the Qur'an doesn't say anything of the kind.

                                Salaam

Peace, bilqis comes from hadith? Nowhere quran says solomon was an unwise ruler and that q o s was wise. I'm sorry but i only see this as possibly meaning that women cannot rule people, the way solomon imposed himself. Also nowhere quran says mariam was messenger, where is it written that she asked her people as a messenger would, to worship God alone?

Where Have I said that the Qur'an says the Suleyman was an unwise ruler? I haven't certainly said that. And the Qur'an DOES portray Bilqis as a wise ruler, or what would you call her. A failure? a tyran? Would you like that the word wise precisely was written? It does more that that, it explains. Does it pain you that she should be protrayed as wise? Please, go ahead and call her unwise or whatever you like. She won't care. She's got everything any human being may desire.

As for the rest think or believe whatever you see as fit. I told you what I know, if you want to take it further, I can't help you. It doesn't bother me in the least if all profets were men or if they were all women. It doesn't bother me in the least if they were fifty-fifty or 99-1 and the fact that there are people that make so much out of it, really boggles my mind. What does it matter? ?Do you get a medal if all profets are men, or loose some gamble if some were women? Because, of course, it cannot be a question of sex, because then all men would have to be profets, and it has never been like that rather most men have not been profets, and acording to my understanding of khatmunabiyin, anyway that is over. Nobody is profet now, we are all adult, emancipated muslims, but the fact that the mere possibility awakes such horror, really puzzels me. I feel as if I had stepped on a snake. It doesn't say in the Qur'an that Maryam was not a messenger either, does it? but can you for every considered profet in the Qur'an, bring an aya that says so? As I say, I don't care one way or another, because it has no importance whatsoever. If it is important for you, try to find out. And if you find out that all profets mentioned in the Qur'an are men, go and celebrate it, but not too much, you don't know what all the profets that are not mentioned in the Qur'an were. And what the Qur'an doesn't say is that a massenger must necessarily be a man, so for that you still will have to trust your masculine intuition.

                                    Salaam

                                        Dear huruf,

This is weird. To what conclusions have I arrived? I don't state any conlusions of mine, whatsoever. Which conclusions are they? The only thing I have affirmed, and I am eminently correctable is that in the Qur'an there is no statement that says that only men can be profets. So please, if there is such statement, tell me where it is in the Qur'an and I will be pleased to go and check and if it does say it, I will tell you thank you for pointing it out, you are very kind and may God bless you. No problem. I am yours faithfully.

As an aside I am getting a bit tired of getting unasked for advice about what I should do and unwarranted presumptions as to what I have done or haven't done.

And please, do tell me the aya or ayas where it is stated that only men can be profets. I am very interested to correct any wrong impression.

                                        Salaam
