I would say I agree with what brother Yasin had to say on the subject.

Not sure how many posts you're going to get on this topic considering most or all of us here believe in the Qur'an.

There are truly some awful things in this world. Child rapists, murderers, people who do some of the worst kind of evil. Its unimaginable to most of us, but it exists.

God created us.
God created everything. Every thought, every action, every movement, everything.
God is all knowing, so when he created free will, he created what free will allows you to do.

This can only mean one thing. God imagined those evil things and allowed them to exist. People use free will as an excuse.

Predestination doesn't mean the same thing to every person. To some, it simply means that God knows all the possible outcomes of our choices and all the choices that could ever be. In my view (and others&#039, in this understanding, there's no conflict with free will here.

I still don't know my exact feelings and thoughts on the free will matter, but I've never believed that God views time in such a linear fashion. I think that's a very human concept. To me, time is only but another dimension we have simply not accessed yet. Just because we perceive it in the ways that we do doesn't mean that it applies to the rest of the universe, or to a being such as God. In my limited mind, I can only imagine time as a more flexible concept that exists all at once (or not at all) at the same time. That is a "solution" that makes sense to me. Time does not exist in a highly individualized present moment to God like it does for us.

The notion of an all knowing, all powerful, all good creater just cannot go with Evil that we see. Its impossible.

Why is that impossible?

I've had periods of suffering and pain in my life, as has everyone else. I have learned and grown from these experiences and become a better person in a way I don't believe would be possible if I had not experienced them in the first place. I couldn't see it while I was going through it, but those experiences have shaped me and benefited me, in their own ways. Sometimes we can fail to see the bigger picture. Sometimes change may not come in our lifetimes.

In my philosophy course I learned that this was one of the proposed solutions to the problem of evil called the development of the soul. or soul-making. Evil exists because it is necessary for our own development, both as individuals and as a species.

The next reason was free will. We have the ability to make our own choices. If God intervened, not only would those committing the specific action no longer have their free will. All those who would otherwise have the power to do something about it themselves would lose their free will as well.

The final reason is the existence of sin, where individuals or humankind have wronged. I suppose you could say this is the deserving or punishing reason; possible "karma." I learned it is not just a single one of these reasons but a combination of all three that "solved" the ever-complex problem of evil.

I think the proposed solutions to the problem of evil call into question whether God can have morally sound reason(s) for allowing evil. He can be All Good, All Knowing, and All Powerful but "choose" not to prevent evil for a morally sound reason or reasons.

I and everyone else have the opportunities to impact other places and people. As the saying goes, "Be the change you want to see in the world." We have a long way to go, but today we live in the safest period of human history. Don't get me wrong - we have a long way to go still. There is still a lot of evil and suffering in the world, but there is a lot of good, peace, and tolerance too.

I don't think you can have one without the other. What kind of world is that? What kind of test is that? What kind of people would we be, without the hardships and pain to balance and shape us into who we are?

Something somewhere must be false

1. Either God is actually Evil.
2. There are more then one God, with one being Evil.
3. There is no God.
4. God isn't all knowing, or all powerful.

I struggle to see how theres a 5th option. Please help me if you think so.

There are a couple other possible options

5. God is neither good or evil.
6. There are many gods (not necessarily divided up into evil or good).
7. God doesn't care / left us to our own devices (this is the deist approach).

And of course there may be more.

I have similar views as huruf on this topic.

Legally and religiously, what begins a marriage is just a ceremony and recognition that gives two people certain rights concerning one another. I see marriage as a socially recognized bond or commitment. It's a healthy, caring partnership where people enter in a contract of sorts. So in my understanding, people in long-term relationships or common-law marriages (where they are not legally married) are married. Again, commitment to one another is key here, as well as others recognizing or validating the relationship. In my view, it can't be a secret and it can't be a fling or one night stand.

Was reading the Qur'an today and came across the following verse, which I believe relates well to the above verse

3161 "It was not for any prophet to embezzle/deceive/defraud, and he who embezzles will be brought with what he has embezzled on the Day of Resurrection, then every soul will be given what it has earned without being wronged."

So you are running like a cow? You just tried to gave your own interpretation to the verse about cutting of a hand, which you took not as literal. Well, this is merely your interpretation and a lot of people including those of Qur'an alone do not agree with you. So unless you take whole Qur'an as associative instead of literal you can tell your analysis was more or less plausible. Not in this case, however. You can't just make up a meaning of a word which you do not agree with.

What do you mean by literal? If I go to the dictionary right now I can find over 10 definitions of the word ?hand.? Those are all valid denotations. Regardless of the interpretation we decide on, in this case there still has to be something physically (if that?s what you mean by literal?) done to someone who steals amputation, imprisonment, etc., to prevent them from doing it again.

I created a Qur'an alone community (called subreddit) on the social media site Reddit about a year ago. We've small (at the moment, we only have a little over 200 subscribers). We only have a few active members who regularly post or comment, so most of the community consists of lurkers. Nevertheless, we've grown slowly but steady over the last year. On average I would say we gain a new subscriber or two every couple of days.

I agree that Facebook is a huge outlet and those pages/groups are definitely the biggest communities.

(Side question The Monotheist Group translation uses "communion" for salat (I also like "duty" in Gerrans), and yet the passage referring to "do not commune over those that set up partnership" is confusing to me.....what is the communion? How are Muslims to commune? I want to say that the word not being clearly defined seems to imply group custom or practices of the Muslims, whatever those may be, but this one specific instance of salat seems weird to me.)

Does anyone know of a nice Qur'an alone/oriented translation that's also a physically small book? I'm looking for a smaller Qur'an (if I can find one), but I feel like everything I find is 9 x 6 inches and that's a little too big for me. I feel like something slightly smaller like 8 x 5 is much more reasonable.

As to personal details, I am 30-something, married, 2 cats, no children, I read to an unhealthy degree, and enjoy lifting heavy things up over my head and then putting them down again (also carrying them a distance).

I understand these kind of projects take time and the people capable of getting them completed, but I see on the website that PRL is listed as incomplete at 93%, as it has for some time now. Is there any estimated time for when users can hope for the project to be completed?
