Thanks. I know we are obligated to obey them, but what i mean is if the parents did a crime against a child, such as being involved in a murder of that child's family member, can the child get justice? I am reading this ayat, 4135, but am not sure if it's the right thing for this context.

O ye who believe! Be ye staunch in justice, witnesses for Allah, even though it be against yourselves or (your) parents or (your) kindred, whether (the case be of) a rich man or a poor man, for Allah is nearer unto both (them ye are). So follow not passion lest ye lapse (from truth) and if ye lapse or fall away, then lo! Allah is ever Informed of what ye do.

I think that, even if we are hit with hard times, such as unemployment, disabilities, etc., it doesn't mean that Allah is not with us. These can be tests of faith, and it can even be that these hardships that Muslims are facing is because Allah wants to remove their past sins. I mean.. punishment in this life is surely better than punishment in the next isnt it.

I remember reading a scholarly article once, where the author mentioned something about the story of Lut in the Qur'an in a more open-minded way, with additional evidences from the Qur'an about human diversity (3022) and how everyone acts according to their disposition (1784) and also that the Qur'an just "assumes" the majority of the listeners/readers are heterosexual.. i don't know.. I would say maybe the Qur'an "acknowledges" homosexuality.. I don't know however if it is allowed.

No.. I don't wear it. I did try it a long time ago and it just did not feel right. I do practice modesty in other ways though.. like lowering my gaze, wearing long skirts, and tops that cover properly (no more plunging necklines)

I did what you are thinking to do. First I got married in a civil service ceromony in court, no cake, no reception, none of it.. it was just me, my husband and witnesses, a little more than two years ago. Then my husband told his parents about me and they accepted me and made us do a nikkah with .. We did that. We still live separately because of several reasons (we didnt have a wedding party yet, my family doesn't know, financial reasons).. after the nikkah i found i was pregnant soon after.. and it was chaos

Going through this experience, I would not suggest this route. Things get so complicated, and there's always this feeling that even though we are married it doesnt feel like a marriage; to put bluntly, living separately when you're married sucks. my hubby still has 2-5 years until he finishes his degree. i would say things would be MUCH better and smoother in life if you got married with both your families knowing

I remember watching this PETA video once of how chickens were slaughtered (they were thrown against walls, their beaks were ripped off, dipped them in boiling water, etc) for some fast food restaurants, and since then started feeling doubt.. i didn't want to rule out the possibility that this kind of slaughter would be provided for any other restaurants

This was the first sura that was revealed. There were no times for salaat, 11114 and 1778 wasn't revealed, no Fatiha. How did this slave pray? When did Prophet teach him and he's praying? He's praying according to what? Which suras did he recite? There was only 13 AYATS revealed in all, not SURAS! Prophet was an ummi (unaware of the other holy books), when did he learn how to pray?

I've read in Muhammad Asad's commentary that AL-ALAQ was probably the first revelation.. the one where the prophet is told to "read!", I think.

Mahr has to be something materialistic, i.e. money, gold, or anything that you can get money for if you decide to sell. Prophet Moses? work for his future father-in-law. It cannot be something intellectual. Because in case of divorce a man is not allowed to take back what he's given to his ex. If it were an education, then how ccould one take, or not take, education back?

I neglected to mention a debate with an attorney who is also hafeez of quran. He got so caught up in trying to prove his point he said to me ?FORGET ABOUT THE QUR'AAN? and accused me of being too logical. However, as soon as the words left his lips, he recognized his folly. We all laughed and agreed that we had to do this (debate) again. Even though he was hafeez (a lot of useless parroting) I would give him time to prepare for me to ?hurl? the truth at the falsehood. That also made him smile. I think being away from the madrassah and here in NY he is starting to mellow. God is the guide.

The first error is in the LABELING of a person as being "MUSLIM". That word is NOT a title, only a description. You can have ANY title, "Hindu", "Jew", "Christian" or whatever, and still be described as one who peacefully submits(muslim).

Regarding marriage, you should choose a mate, not based on thier "Title" but on thier faith and actions. Do they trust that all of thier causes will lead to effects? Do they , after knowing this, choose to do right so that thier effect will come back positive? Do they see the interconnection between ALL THINGS(Oneness)?

if they don't see these things, they are mislead and will call you to the fire, even if they call themselves by the TITLE "MUSLIM".

Yes, it most certainly does. If you speak a language other than English at home, CONTINUE TO DO SO WITH YOUR KIDS! Please ignore your son/daughter's teacher if she tells you to speak to your child in only english at home. This is wrong!!

There are studies (Caplan, et al.) that prove bilingual children do much better in school, and transfer into other languages much more easily. Their cognitive abilities are enhanced substantially.

In general what are our duties as children to our parents? Is it just to obey them and not be harsh with them? Are we required to financially support them in their old age also? If parents commit a serious crime against their children, are the children allowed to get justice from the parents?
