To drive away the waters and part the Red Sea, Moses needed a different location than previously thought, according to a new study on the miraculous biblical event. Previous studies of wind, waves and bathymetry have called on hurricane strength winds blowing from the northwest to push away the water. This exposed a long reef which allowed Moses and the Israelites to escape the advancing cavalry of Pharaoh. The problem is It would be nearly impossible for Israelites to stand in such a wind, much less walk to safety. What's more, the Book of Exodus includes some nice meteorological details "(T)he Lord drove the sea away all night with a strong east wind and turned the sea-bed into dry land." "If you are going to match the biblical account, you need the wind from the east," said researcher Carl Drews of the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Drews has been studying the Red Sea story for years as a student and now has published a paper on the matter, which was his master's thesis, in the journal PloS One. Drews took that east wind and tried to perform a computer simulation of the event in a couple of different places. He found that a steady 63-mile-per-hour (100-kilometer-per-hour) wind over a digitally reconstructed east-west running lake at the Mediterranean end of the Nile, near today's Port Said, would push the water west to the far end of the lake, as well as south, up the river. The model showed that this would expose wide mud flats where the river entered the lake and leave a land bridge high and dry for four hours. The hardest part of the study, said Drews, was reconstructing the geography of the area. He chose the area known today as Lake Manzala because it seems to fit with the Exodus story. It is oriented so that an east wind can actually blow across it lengthwise and push water to one side -- something that is not the case for the north-south running Red Sea. Drews used research done by others regarding the past geography of that area, which was once known as Lake of Tanis, along with the earliest maps he could find to try to recreate what the site looked like in 1250 B.C. The exact date is, however, not crucial, he said. Of course, this location raises another problem The Nile Delta is not the Red Sea -- or is it? "There is some controversy over the body of water they crossed," said Drews. "The Exodus text says in Hebrew 'yam suf,' (which) literally means 'Sea of Reeds.'" That description fits the area he studied a broad lake filled with papyrus reeds stretching to the horizon. "Many Bible translations render 'yam suf' as 'Red Sea,'" Drews told Discovery News. "Red Sea" has become the common terminology. However, biblical scholars Kenneth Kitchen and James Hoffmeier have explored the issue at length and have concluded that the marshy area along the Suez Canal is also an acceptable location for "yam suf." Hoffmeier, for his part, is cautious and not sure the location fits. "Attempts to understand biblical events in the light of geographical and climatological considerations are welcomed," said Hoffmeier, of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School at Trinity International University. "But the investigator must also incorporate a careful and contextual reading of the biblical text." "The value of studying the event described in the Old Testament certainly lends support to the thesis that physics is a natural phenomenon, a normal part of our universe," said Stephen Baig, a researcher who has studied storm surges for the National Hurricane Center. "If there is a miracle, it is that we are able to describe such events with numbers." http//news.discovery.com/history/moses-red-sea-parting.html

Could you please post the verses.....i always thought the earth would be spheroid for the Day of Judgement. PEACE Peace, Respect. Sometimes when I think of the arrival of The Judgment Day, it seems to me that Time stops and nothing else matters, except my actions, they get different value, bigger, more important. God knows best. Peace.

I believe they had/have a world renowned institution/university that specialised in Islamic/Arabic studies, hence much quality research coming out of it in Germany. Cant recall the name of it though.

Forgot to add! universities (worldwide also) If you live near a large university, and have access to their library, they often have very good, rare, or expensive Islam/Muslim/Quran books, e.g. SOAS in London. I have edited original message.

How do you think mother of Jesus Mary dressed according to christian scriptures when she went shopping, riding etc? Does it mean if we are more technologically advanced, the modesty level should also change? I am not saying that Mary dressed that way because I was not there, nor am I saying that The Creator ordered us to dress that way. But if someone does and it does not harm others, then what is wrong with it? Peace

Salaam, this is the translation of the surah 459 as requested. Wake you lethargic in unwise actions. Those who had pleasure of being safe and secure in the past. Were they submissive to one whom is not a deity for adoration and worship? Or were they submissive to the easy life? Or else were they with what is decreed and prescript? Among you there upon, is what may be known and that whereof a thing may be predicated. You desire and yearn towards it. Consequently, it will lead you to revert back towards, One who is not the deity for adoration and worship and the real easy in this life. In order that you could be with one who is not a deity for adoration and worship Guarded and safe, instead of being left behind and backwards in the era. This is for you the most pleasing quality and real good and an ideal. An expression that is plain and without any dubiousness, that you have to return. (Surah 459) Sorry for the late reply, must have missed it. Had problems following the above translation and couldn't figure out which bits refer to which words in Arabic. So, could you translate the following for me The above term is from 459. Thanks.

Salaam, Alen you on the run from the sunni's & shia's? Lol! Peace. (Only joking). Peace, Respect, Of course not, just few hours ago I was discussing with some sunnis how sunnah and hadeeth were/are attributed to prophet/messenger Mohammad and that those books and books of some stories are not prophet's narrations. They insulted and mocked me but that was pretty much it. Glory be to God. I know where I stand. Peace. police

Salaam. It'd be good to know what areas Qur'an only muslim's are from so we can get together & pray, talk etc. We could start our own small community in our area. Imagine a Mosque where all muslims can pray without feeling rejected by others. Well from from East Sussex in England so anyone near please give me a shout! Peace.

Peace, Along the same lines... from a previous post. God is "no-things", creation is "things" I think that what is meant by this sentence is that the god is not any THING, because a thing has to have boundaries, shape... The god IS. In truth, only the god is ?existing?. The god is the highest potential of energy. To allow ?things? to exist, to allow ?movement?, to allow ?time? to exist, a point lesser in potential has to be created. This point is what we consider as ?Point Zero?, ?the void? or ?no-thingness?. And then, energy from the higher potential can flow to the lowest potential making time, space and thus allowing the transitory existence of some ?things?. This is why it is said that we are created through ?no-thing?. The void cannot withstand ?existence?; the most impossible task for anyone is to find a ?void? or to make ?emptiness?; thus we understand the omnipotence and omnipresence of the god the living the one who ?IS?. From http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=16733.msg172472#msg172472 This is like making a "hole" or a "void" on the surface of a lake which has a very smooth surface with no turbulences. As soon as the stimulis used to make the hole stops, water will flow to fill the hole, and to restore the stable state of the lake, after been in a transitive state during a lapse of time.

Wootah, "The Loving" is one of the names of God in the Quran. I really hate the racist/sectarian undertones of the article. It's purely an exercise of projecting the writers own negative instincts upon muslims, trying to turn them into the alien 'other'.

"for or against death" I fail to see why there should be that kind of dichotomy. I cannot be 'for' or 'against' death because death is an inevitable fact of life, not a position that can be attacked or defended. Your reply is moot. Fair enough. As I said you have to observe. How are others that treat death as inevitable behaving in life? Take abortion for a simple example. People in favour of abortion might well say, 'death is an inevitable fact of life' therefore why is an abortion a big deal? But again I agree with you in that I am creating/supporting a dichotomy. I prefer to view things that way. I think a lot of people take actions not believing those actions matter, life matters and a better dichotomy in thinking would benefit a lot more people.

When you are stressed... Just make an ablution... wear some perfume.. and sit down on the mat... then empty your mind... focus on your breathing... or focus on nature like the sea, mountains etc... I think this would be much better in relieving your stress... BEFORE doing it.... just sincere ask God to bestow his tranquility and peace unto you...

http//www.jewishfederations.org/page.aspx?id=50080 http//www.guardian.co.uk/world/2003/nov/02/israel.eu http//www.wnd.com/?pageId=21566 The connection is a conspiracy theory as to why the event took place the way it did and what were the consequences of it and who were the ultimate beneficiary of the cartoon controversy. Nothing in this world happens without a set reason and this is merely an attempt to seek out the reason behind this enterprise. Zees I don't see any "Netanyahu statement" on the link you have given. but you admit that the connection was indeed a 'conspiracy theory'. In my view this 'theory' besides it's severely lacking of evidences it is also way far off. As thus don't 'over-credited' the Israeli government with this, believe me they are Not that smart (If they were indeed smart their problems should have been solved ages ago) Not that powerful (Israel is a country with merely 7 million people, huge debts and area as small as the size of NY City)
