Peace, Whilst studying 230-235, and the story of Adam according to some and an interesting rendition relating to mankind according to some other renditions such as Ahmad Shabbir. The word Sha-Ja-Ra has the following meanings according to Wehr to happen, occur; to break out, develop II to plant with trees, forest III to quarrel, argue, dispute (with one another) etc... I found the last interpretation interesting. I wonder could it be that indeed the tree refers to disputing with one another? Thoughts?

Peace all, 531.As the star collapsed. And He is the Lord of Shi'ra 'Sirius'. Let us suppose that 'Shi'ra' in 5349 means Sirius, Allah doesn?t specify which star in 531. To say that ?alnnajmi? in 531 is Sirius in 5349 is just a baseless extrapolation ; I can?t see a direct connection between these two verses 531 and 5349. A month or ramadhan, in which the quran was sent down as a guide to the people and a clarification of the guidance and the criterion. Therefore, whoever of you can observe the season, then let him fast therein. And whoever is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days. God wants to bring you ease and not to bring you hardship; and so that you may complete the count, and glorify God for what He has guided you, that you may be thankful. I think the answer to our question about the beginning of the month of ramadan is in the word ?ramadan? itself and each one must be able to observe this period. Below the translation of Ahmad Shabir, I found it very interesting 5338 - i That no laden one shall bear the load of another. 5339 - ii And that every human being shall be responsible for, and compensated for, his labor. 5340 - iii And that his effort (and not the outcome) will be seen. 5341 - iv And then he will be given the full wage. 5342 - v And that to your Lord is the final destination. (Your goal shall be the Lord?s Rule on earth). 5343 - vi And that He it is Who makes laugh, and makes weep. (Nations that establish His Rule will have inner happiness, whereas the others will be in misery). 5344 - vii And that He it is Who gives death and gives life. (The rise and fall of nations follow His Laws). 5345 - viii And that He it is Who creates the two companions, the male and the female (pairs and opposites among His creation). 5346 From gametes that unite. 5347 ? ix And that He has promised to bring about a second life (the ultimate accountability). 5348 ? x And that He it is Who gives wealth and contentment. (Only His Laws can bestow true prosperity). 5349 ? xi And that He it is Who is the Lord of the brightest star, the human intellect. 5350 ? xii And that He it is Who annihilated the former tribe of Aad. (They were men of intellect but refused to establish the Divine System (765). A wrong system, however smartly run, is bound to collapse). Peace Marie

Peace all, When the youths hid in the cave, and they said ?Our Lord, bring us a mercy from Yourself, and help us in our affair! Ith awa alfityatu ilaalkahfi faqaloo rabbana atina minladunka rahmatan wahayyi/ lana min amrinarashadan So We sealed upon their ears in the cave for a number of years. Fadarabna AAala athanihimfee alkahfi sineena AAadadan Then We sent them to know which of the two groups had remained for as long as they stayed. Thumma baAAathnahum linaAAlama ayyualhizbayni ahsa lima labithoo amadan And you would think they are awake while they are asleep. And We turn them on the right-side and on the left-side, and their dog has his legs outstretched in their midst. If you looked upon them you would have run away from them and you would have been filled with terror from them! Watahsabuhum ayqathanwahum ruqoodun wanuqallibuhum thata alyameeni wathataalshshimali wakalbuhum basitun thiraAAayhibialwaseedi lawi ittalaAAta AAalayhimlawallayta minhum firaran walamuli/ta minhum ruAAban And it was thus that We delivered them so they would ask themselves. A speaker from amongst them said ?How long have you stayed?? They said ?We stayed a day or part of a day.? He said ?Your Lord is surely aware how long you stayed, so send one of you with these stamped coins of yours to the city, and let him see which is the tastiest food, and let him come with a provision of it. And let him be careful and let no one take notice of you.? Wakathalika baAAathnahumliyatasaaloo baynahum qala qa-ilun minhumkam labithtum qaloo labithna yawman aw baAAdayawmin qaloo rabbukum aAAlamu bima labithtum faibAAathooahadakum biwariqikum hathihi ila almadeenatifalyanthur ayyuha azka taAAamanfalya/tikum birizqin minhu walyatalattaf walayushAAiranna bikum ahadan And as such, We revealed their case so that they would know that God?s promise is true and that there is no doubt regarding the Hour. They argued amongst themselves regarding them, so they said ?Erect a monument for them!? Their Lord is fully aware of them, those who managed to win the argument said ?We will construct a temple over them.? Wakathalika aAAtharnaAAalayhim liyaAAlamoo anna waAAda Allahi haqqunwaanna alsaAAata la rayba feeha ithyatanazaAAoona baynahum amrahum faqaloo ibnooAAalayhim bunyanan rabbuhum aAAlamu bihim qala allatheenaghalaboo AAala amrihim lanattakhithanna AAalayhimmasjidan And they remained in their cave for three hundred years, and increased by nine. Hello everyone, I read this chapter (22) for the first time today and I am not understanding the real meaning behind these verses, could you offer any opinions? The animal offerings are among the rites decreed by GOD for your own good. You shall mention GOD's name on them while they are standing in line. Once they are offered for sacrifice, you shall eat therefrom and feed the poor and the needy. This is why we subdued them for you, that you may show your appreciation. Neither their meat, nor their blood reaches GOD. What reaches Him is your righteousness. He has subdued them for you, that you may show your appreciation by glorifying GOD for guiding you. Give good news to the charitable. Is God telling us that animals were soley created to serve as food for us? The reason I am asking is because I support several anti-animal cruelty programs in my state and elsewhere like www.anticruelty.org and though this verse does not say be cruel to animals or kill them just because you can (nor does it say this anywhere else in the Quran), I am not sure if God is telling here that sacrifies must be made to display righteousness or animals are to be used for food and that's the reason for their creation. Thanks

Salaams, As you might have also noted there are only two words which by translation into various things miracls are one of the outcomes. Ayah ,and Bayanat. But what is lanes translation of these. Ayah = a command to be silent, and abstain i.e be silent;and abstain. having strong or loud voice. Ayah to my knowledg also means a quranic verse. Abeyn = clear, distinct, eloquent,in speech or language. Beynaat = Language that shows the meaning that is intended and an explanation of vague language. (So a baynaat, is a verbal manifestaion of an ayat) If you know of any word in the quran standing for miracles as such ,love to know. Mind you in arabic there are ,as in some other language lots of mathalan ,used in normal daily talking. His a snake,His cut his feet off,she is a bitch, his flying high,in your dreams and i know everybody knows much more different in different languages. In urdu ,His a scorpion, when you meet someone after a while ,you might say where has the moon of the 14th come from. And there are 100's more.Whem talking to someone they may say Qibla to you,or your an angel.Salaams.

Peace be upon all readers, It saddens me that people are still feeling that the Qiblah represents a physical direction to turn to during a physical devotion. The rejection of ahadith is the first step; actually following the path of the Quran and using the Quran to explain itself is another altogether. There is still a strong tendency amongst God alone people to use the traditional views as a default. I want to make this example especially in reference to the way people still believe that there is a physical direction to turn to. 2149 Wherever you go, you shall turn your face (during Salat) towards the Sacred Masjid.* This is the truth from your Lord. GOD is never unaware of anything you all do. (Rashad Khalifa trans.) Wamin haythu kharajta fawalli wajhaka shatra almasjidi alharami wa-innahu lalhaqqu min rabbika wama Allahu bighafilin AAamma taAAmaloona Note that the "Salat" is actually a parenthetical statement. The verse does not refer in any way to salat. Yet this verse is what is used as the basis of turning to face a building in modern day Arabia. Contrast that verse with 3030 So set thou thy face steadily and truly to the Faith (establish) God's handiwork according to the pattern on which He has made mankind no change (let there be) in the work (wrought) by God that is the standard Religion but most among mankind understand not. (Abdullah Yusuf Ali) Faaqim wajhaka lilddeeni haneefan fitrata Allahi allatee fatara alnnasa AAalayha la tabdeela likhalqi Allahi thalika alddeenu alqayyimu walakinna akthara alnnasi la yaAAlamoona The turning of one's face is the turning of one's purpose or goal; it is not a physical direction. Heed what God tells you Righteousness is not turning your faces towards the east or the west. Righteous are those who believe in GOD, the Last Day, the angels, the scripture, and the prophets; and they give the money, cheerfully, to the relatives, the orphans, the needy, the traveling alien, the beggars, and to free the slaves; and they observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat); and they keep their word whenever they make a promise; and they steadfastly persevere in the face of persecution, hardship, and war. These are the truthful; these are the righteous. Will you still insist that there is any benefit at all in physically "facing" a stone building/meteorite (idol). Peace.

Peace (further to the BBC discussion for those who know...) Does khimar have the same root as 'khamri', the Arabic for intoxicant/wine? Does the latter mean something that 'covers' one's judgement, literally? IOW, from the Quran can the meaning of khimar ever be justified as something relating to the head? http//burhan.freewebsitehosting.com/data/b.x.1175.htm Roshan

Salaams, i was looking at two descriptions of the story of moses, that explained at 7103-7111 and then in 2047-2058 In the first Allah sent moses to firaun he told firaun he has brought clear proofs firaun asks to be shown the signs Moses throws the stick - behold it turns into a snake and then his hand becomes white. moses is called a sorcerer and is told he wants them to get out of their land. firaun arranges the test and calls his sorcerers from throughout the country for the test. Now in the second description Allah sent moses to firaun he told firaun he has come with a sign then reasoned arguments break out,and moses tries to convince firaun about Allah (i think this being the snake and the white hand) (no snakes or white hand comes into play) All the ayat are shown -rather explained to firaun moses is called a sourcerer and told he wants to drive them out from their land firaun arranges the test and calls his sorcerers from around the country. Brothers see the difference in the two episodes(please) read the quran (the two episodes )and see what and where the snake is in this second episode.I think most people can see with reasoned thought. Thank you

Salaams, I tried to find out its meaning from lanes Hab = He or it was or became loved, beloved ,an object of love, liked or aproved. la = no So oposite of lahab is Hate. Tab = The suffering of loss or being lost , and perished.,State of being lost, or and perdition or death. So 1111 Perish the two hands of father of hate and perdition. ( Love -admire,speak well off, show warm feeling for and be delighted by.) (so we must have more love in our lives - my view)

Peace All, Analysis from The Reading (Al Quran) Root Ayn-Ba-Dal = to serve or to worship? The following is just a few of the occurrences of the root, which I feel prove ?serve? is the preferred choice, over ?worship?. O you who believe, execution has been decreed for you in the case of murder; the free for the free, and the slave (AAabdu) for the slave (AAabdi)... It is less likely to mean ?and the worshiper for the worshiper?. ?And do not marry the males who set-up partners until they believe. For a believing servant (AAabdun) is better than one who sets up partners even if he attracts you? This verse implies that marrying a ?believing servant? is better than marrying a servant who sets up partners, even if he attracts you. Read it again with ?worshipper? in place, and see which fits better. It is not for a human that God would give him the scripture and the authority and the prophethood, then he would say to the people "Be servants (AAibidan) to me rather than God!", but "be devotees for what you have been taught of the scripture, and for what you studied". This verse implies that to serve The God is to be devoted to what you have learnt/studied of the scripture/decree/law (kitab). And lastly? Verb (2nd form) Moses states to Pharaoh "And that was a favour that you held against me, so you could continue to enslave (AAabbad) the Children of Israel" It?s clear to students of the scripture that Pharaoh did not worship the COI nor did they worship him. A slave is essentially one who serves his/her master. It would be inappropriate to say a slave is one who worships his/her master. Furthermore, ?serve? gives a much wider understanding of the term, which can encompass some aspects of ?worship? (e.g. to call/petition (dua) The God, emotional aspect etc.), thus its more accurate. From www.dictionary.com slave One bound in servitude as the property of a person or household, one who is abjectly subservient to a specified person or influence, one who works extremely hard. serve To work for, to meet the requirements of, to be of assistance to or promote the interests of. worship The reverent love and devotion accorded a deity, an idol, or a sacred object, the ceremonies, prayers, or other religious forms by which this love is expressed, ardent devotion; adoration. servant of the household? • God's Way - 'unchangeable' or 'irreplacable'

Peace all, Several people here are using 3362 in a way that is not precise. They are taking classical translations to make 3362 mean that God's way is unchangeable and base many arguments against miracles through it. I wanted to make it clear that the verse should be translated thus That was God's way with those who passed away of old, and you will never find to God's way a substitute. Sunnata Allahi fee allatheena khalaw min qablu walan tajida lisunnati Allahi tabdeelan Please look at that carefully. The way that last verse is normally translated might lead you to believe that God's way is 'unchangeable' hence seeming to support the ideas of the 'unchangeable' people. But the literal meaning is that there is NO OTHER WAY than God's way. There is no SUBSTITUTE or other way than HIS WAY. The meaning is plain - THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD, therefore there is only ONE WAY. You won't find a substitute as there simply isn't another way. Peace.

Peace be upon you, (2434) And We had descended to you clear signs, and an example/proverb(mathalan) from those who past/expired from before you, and an advice/warning to the fearing and obeying. The God tells us in the above verse that He descends on us clear signs, but He also sends us MATHALAN from those who expired before us. What is this MATHALAN? (226) That God does not (feel) shame that (He) gives/strikes an example/similitude/allegory... (7177) Evil as an example/similitude/allegory are people... (1124) The example/allegory of these two groups is like the blind and deaf, compared to the seer and hearer. Are they equal? Would you not take heed? (1424) Do you not see/understand how The God gave an example/proverb, (of) a good/pure word/expression ,as a good/pure tree, its root (is) affirmed/established (fixed) and its branch/top (is) in the sky? (1675) God gave an example/parable , an owned slave/human , he is not capable/able on (of) a thing, and whom what We provided for him from Us a good/beautiful provision , so he spends from it secretly and publicly , do they become equal/alike? The praise/gratitude (is) to God, but most of them do not know. The rest of the verses are 1676,112 ; 1832 ; 3028 ; 3613 ; 3678 ; 3929 ; 4317 ; 4357 ; 4359 ; 6610 ; 6611 ; 7431 (Edip's Favorite wink ) Now that you have looked at the verses for "MATHALAN" and have witnesed that it is used to mean ALLEGORY?SIMILITUDE, basically SYMBOLISM, thenlets go to the verse in question once more (2434) And We had descended to you clear signs, and an example/proverb(mathalan) from those who past/expired from before you, and an advice/warning to the fearing and obeying. The God is telling us that the stories of those in the past are ALLEGORIES/SIMILITUDES/EXAMPLES, so why do we take them literally when we see no proof that sticks turn into snakes?

kane and abel ( adam's sons) , one killed the other and ran off ( if i'm not mistaken. how do u guys think the human race even started? i'm just lost in that one. And recite for them the news of Adams two sons in truth. They had both made an offering, and it was accepted from one of them, and not accepted from the other. He said I will kill you!; he said God only accepts from the righteous. If you stretch your hand to kill me, I will not stretch my hand to kill you, for I fear God, the Lord of the worlds. I want you to have both my sin as well as your own sin, and you will then be among the dwellers of the Fire. Such is the reward of the wicked So he found it in himself to kill his brother; so he killed him. He thus became one of the losers. So God sent forth a raven to scratch the land and show him how to deal with the body of his brother. He said O my, am I not able to be like this raven and deal with the body of my brother! So he became of those who regretted. thats all? are there any other verses i'm missing? ? what happened next? how did we even begin? sharrif ?

Peace all, The recent conjecturing about the nature of the miraculous in the Quran led me to meditate on the issue and I want to present what I believe people here ought to consider. I want to use 2844(-46) as the basis. I witness an alarming degree of 'neo-mutazilite' thinking amongst the members of the forum. While this is undoubtedly needed when it comes to interpreting such verses as 1137, 4810 which mention God's eye and hand it is a different matter altogether to build metaphors on events that are recounted as historical in the Quran. The peril of such thinking is as follows. The people who rejected the physical miracles of earlier times are destined for great punishment. The modern equivalents not only deny the miracle as having happenned, they deny God's account of it in the Quran without having any proof that it did not happen in the way God says it does. They are doubly worse in their rejection! Now I want to come to 2844 2844 You were not present on the slope of the western mount, when we issued the command to Moses; you were not a witness. All the people conjecturing on these miraculous events were NOT WITNESSES to the events that God recounts and yet seem like they are expert at interpreting them. They see them in their (free)mind's eye. Peace.

Peace, The reason I am posting this is that some discussions (such as the virgin birth of Jesus) are being based on metaphoric symbolism and an argument that ?God does not change his physical laws,? while I believe the semi-comprehensive list below will show this to be an incorrect assumption and that God does occasionally bend the laws of our world to have His will done Abraham survives being burned alive by fire turning cold. (2169) Abraham kills four birds and brings them back to life. (2260) Abraham?s wife gives birth while beyond menstruation. (1172) God speaks to Moses. (4164) God reveals Himself physically to a mountain. (7143) Moses turns his staff to a serpent. (7107) Moses? hand becomes pure white. (710 Moses parts the sea and saves the Children of Israel. (2663) Moses causes 12 springs to gush forth. (260) The golden calf emits sound. (714 Some of the Children of Israel are resurrected on Earth after being killed. (256) The sleepers of the cave survive 309 years in sleep. (1825) A man dies and is resurrected after 100 years. (2259) Solomon speaks to the birds. (2716) Solomon commands the winds. (2181) Solomon moves a palace across time and space. (2740) Mary gives birth while being a virgin. (347) Jesus speaks from birth. (1929) Jesus heals the blind, lepers. (349) Jesus raises the dead. (349) Jesus brings down a feast from heaven. (5112) Zechariah?s wife gives birth while infertile. (340) Angels descend to fight alongside the prophet. (3125) In fact, the very presence of messengers and prophets throughout is clear evidence of divine ?interference/intervention.? Layth
