Salaam, Very good question indeed. I see lots of merit in the query put forth by brother 357. There is nothing about laughing and mocking. I myself have been more perturbed by the conventional translation of the verses 443 and 56, which inter alia stresses upon following a preparatory ritual (WUDHU) before performing another labelled ritual - As-Salat. I do not find the term Wudhu anywhere in Al-Quran and I think that the term 'Salat' has been grossly wronged by the traditionalists without doubt. I would look forward to see the in-depth understanding of brother 357 with regard to the verses 443 and 56 of Al-Quran.

I do not say that hadiths are false. But it can not be denied that these are errorless. First because these were collected two hundred years after the death of the prophet, through a chain of narrators. Moreover the prophet himself and the four rightly guided caliphs did not gave permission to write these sayings of the prophet. Second any personal conversion of the prophet should not be considered as a rule to be followed by all of the future generation.Because, the people to whom the rpophet talked were not ordinary people like us today. they were much above the standard of the most pious men of today. So many of the hadiths contradict the Quran. e.g. Except those who repent and believe (in Isl?mic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds; for those, All?h will change their sins into good deeds, and All?h is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. There are many hadiths which say that if you pray in such and such time your all sins will be forgiven. I agree that the hadiths may be taken as reference but it should never overrule the ayas of the Quran. Any one can tell me the explanation of below mentioned quran verses 341, 3 42 & 343. 341 He said ?My Lord, make for me a sign.? He said ?Your sign is not to speak to the people for three days except by symbol, and remember your Lord greatly, and glorify at dusk and dawn.? 342 And the angels said ?O Mary, God has selected you and cleansed you, and He has selected you over all the women of the worlds.? 343 ?O Mary, be dutiful to your Lord and prostrate and kneel with those who kneel.? a) As far i understood from this verses that the mariam was taught by God how to pray if not please explain. b) In 341 "it is mentioned that remember your lord greatly and glorify" (My understanding is to say the GODS 99 names mindfully) is it correct As-salam aleikum, For the the first verse, my understanding would be to do what is said in the verse. If you do not talk to people for a few days and glorify God constantly, the reality of his existence and signs will readily become clear to you, all around you. You will notice things you never have before and gain new wisdom about reality and God. God has a relationship with an individual, it's never you and people around you or a society. If an individual has a desire to be close to the Lord, he will do what God suggests and be rewarded with the signs He seeks if he prays for them. Try it out yourself - speak to and glorify the Lord in earnest and I am sure the meaning of the verse and more will clear up within you. Also, don't let yourself be influenced by others in your faith. Faith is a very private thing - you are only going to be judged as an individual, not a family unit or cultural entity. Therefore, if you want signs of God, you truly need to perceive them yourself rather than hear about them from others. It is the best way to believe. This verse, in my understanding, is a guidance to finding signs to increase one's faith. As for the next verse, I think it's fairly straightforward in that the angels are telling Mary that God has given her favor above all others. Believers should appreciate what they have been given. The last one is even more straightforward. Somewhere in the Quran (the 2nd Surah) it is said that there is no need to question every verse from the Book, that many are lead astray by just pondering on minor details. Please take heed. Peace.

Similarly, when we say which is understood as ?o? our Lord? as at (i) (a) above, we must ensure we have an authority to say so. As such I have the following Question (i) Whom are we referring to as our Lord? (ii) When did I agree upon to call Him my Lord? (iii) When did it was consented by the Lord to be called as our Lord? Peace be within you, bro Al-Azhar When i read 5727 like this then 582 makes sense because there were still those amongst the followers of Jesus who were true believers and had not changed anything, and so god tells the believers that you can find support amongst some of the Nazarene, especially the monks and priests, for some were still holding true to what sent down. If i look at all the other translations which single out monkery as not being ordained to the people, then why would god specifically mention monks in 582?? From my understanding, the root cause for the different word usage with a same meaning/ command/ purpose from God, came from the three divided religions from His three Books which had been established by men centuries ago. And this leads to the different opinions and leads to changes made to His Message, like 582 and 5727, according to their respective doctrines. But if you read 568, God said that we have no ground to stand upon if we don't stand behind all His Books. This verse leads me to questions, my interaction with Allah during my studies and research for the Truth; did God wanted His Books to be divided into the three religions, did He commanded the respective Prophets to create Judaism from His Torah, Christianity from His Gospel and Islam from the Quran? There is a specific purpose for monasticism, i'tikaaf, seclusion and devotion, and that is for purifications. So, are there differences for the word monk according to Allah? I reflected on His verses, the one that lingers in my mind, during coffee break, during lunch time, while driving to and from the office. Should I call myself a monk? Am I a Christian? What matters to me is God's command, and that I'm doing the righteous thing towards Him alone, His acceptance of me whenever I fulfilled His commands. Lambda, you are imposing obligtions on women, That is not what the aya does. The aya says that what may be exacted from women, the women can exact it also the sme. It is different from what you say. It is talking about womens rights, not women obligations.

It can be understood as Prophet Muhammad. If so, there should be quotation marks, which is what God orders Muhammad to say to his people.
