I believe that life starts at conception, whether or not it started in the womb or a test tube

    164

He created the human from a tiny drop, then he turns into an ardent opponent.

    1837

His friend said to him, as he debated with him, "Have you disbelieved in the One who created you from dust, then from a tiny drop, then perfected you into a man?

    225

O people, if you have any doubt about resurrection, (remember that) we created you from dust, and subsequently from a tiny drop, which turns into a hanging (embryo),

    2313

Subsequently, we reproduced him from a tiny drop, that is placed into a well protected repository.

    3511

GOD created you from dust, then from a tiny drop,

    3677

Does the human being not see that we created him from a tiny drop, then he turns into an ardent enemy?

    4067

He is the One who created you from dust, and subsequently from a tiny drop, then from a hanging embryo

    5345

He is the One who created the two kinds, male and female - (5345) from a tiny drop of semen (5346)

The verses you've quoted don't really support your opinion. If we pretend like they do, then even dust and sperms must be considered humans (dust and the "tiny drop" are spoken of as things that're outside a woman's womb). The verse I quoted talks about fertilization.

You said ?but perhaps killing a zygote that's conceived outside a woman's body isn't murder?

Why would someone plan on killing a zygote? Isn?t the purpose of IVF pregnancy? Miscarriages happen sometimes beyond our control... I guess IVF pregnancies have similar issues, not all people can get pregnant by it. But sure it would be just similar as a normal pregnancy killing it intentionally is almost like abortion.

I dunno too much about IVF though what if the procedure is done faulty and caused I dunno infections or abnormalities would you say killing/destroying it would be wrong? It?s not like a natural pregnancy?

This was actually the core of a legal battle between a couple who divorced and the husband did not want the child /then a zygot, carrying his sperms.
The question is does this make the "morning pill" prohibited? Can we consider a zygot, in a womb or in a lab, a "child"?

Because it's really hard to impregnate women using IVF, doctors create several embryos and after one has been implanted successfully, the rest are rejected.

The morning after pill prevents ovulation or fertilization. There's only a small chance that it prevents implantation so it's likely that taking the morning after pill isn't murder.

There's lots of talk about embryos not being persons, but who gets to decide who a person is and who isn't? Does the absence of consciousness make a human a non-person? What exactly is consciousness? It's a fact that humans aren't the only conscious animals; many animals exhibit signs of consciousness. I think the main thing that distinguishes humans from other organisms is inspiration (ruh) and not consciousness. Embryos certainly possess inspiration if part of inspiration is morality because morality is coded in our genes.

Then I have another question is abortion a big "No" fullstop, or are there are exeptions where abortion can be allowed, for example if the life of the mother is seriously in danger?

You're asking me!? I'm the one with the questions

I guess 6151 applies in the scenario you posed. Killing an unborn human to save the life of the woman they depend on seems just to me.

I am asking you because you are wmpted that abortion at any stage is murder. I want to point out if you believe abortion can be justified in absolute cases, murder of an innocent person is not. Maybe this will make us think of a zygot as not a person.

                          Hi Elke,

I've no answers. I'm trying to find out the great reading's position on abortion.

What about fetuses? A pregnant woman's life can become endangered if she's 5, 6 or 7 months pregnant. Would it be okay for her to have an abortion then?

At this age the fetus does not have to be killed. It could be put in an incubator.

Hmmm you're right. It speaks of the physical creation of the human body but not the soul.
Anyone know anything about when the body is given a soul?

Is it possible that there's something radically different about an embryos that's conceived inside a woman's body and an embryo that's conceived outside a woman's body? The great reading tells us that humans are created inside their mothers so we must assume that a human being is created right after an egg is fertilized inside a woman or right after an embryo is placed inside a woman, but for that to make sense, there'd have to be differences between embryos that are conceived inside women and embryos that are conceived outside women.
