We also tend to think that our own personal feelings or impressions are valid for everybody else, universal. That is a risk. People are different and we cannot impose on others somethign because to us it seems self-evident.

Funny that, yet you did the same. It's a very archaic view that women are "satisfied" with just a few kind words, a stroke of the hair and "a licence to breed". Scintillation of flesh not required! If this were true, the majority of the women I know personally and know of would not own certain sexual devices (how I regret coming here and ever contributing to this thread! Forgive me, God! pr ) and the industry would not be booming as much as it is. Although, of course, there are men who are also serviced by that same industry.

    Salaam.

That was in response to the individual who quoted you. Please read previous post for clarification.

I do not think that the aya brother Youssef quoted includes self, at least I wouldn't be sure. There are things which the Qur'an does not specifically touch. Should we extend other injunctions to cover that?

We come back to the ayas of Qur'an which says who guard their private parts. Has one to interpret that one guards them from oneself? I do not think so. I think though that one must use judgement in its use. To me the limits it refers to are the persons from whom they must be guarded. From oneself is oneself, it is not two persons. The limit is set on the person with whom we can rightfully unguard.

watching Pornography isn't bringing another person in, however, it is still a sin.
My view and from personal experience, Masturbation is a sin. tempt

what's the point of getting a spouse, if you can do it by yourself?

I surely wouldn't get a wife, a husband might be.

            But your comment

But your coment, "what's the point of getting a spouse, if you can do it by yourself?" leaves me ashtounded, KO. So you would get a wife so you wouldn't masturbate? Leaves me dumbfounded. I would never get a husband so I wouldn't masturbate, and to say that to a man would be about the bluntest insult I could profer.

It is not the same. It is like having a conversation with a husbando or great companion and talking to oneself. Two different things, nothing to do the one with the other.

As to pornography, no I do not agree that it is the same as masturbation since you do not involve other persons. That you do not involve other persons I doubt it. Those who make the pornographic films, or the drawings or the photos or whatever, are involved.

            Salaam

To Huruf, my view is that Sexual relations of any kind should be reserved with teh spouse.

I was supporting the point of having a spouse.
and to think of it, yes, asexual reproductions happen all the time in the Animal kingdom...
Example if you're a female komodo Dragon, you need no spouse...
                  Virgin Birth...

How can you call masturbation a sexual relation?

If I talk to myself should I call it a conversation?

Youssef, I know it is an ability conferred upon certain species in the animal kingdom, but I refer to homo sapiens.

Your statement is similar to Sunni muslims who insist muslims should marry early on in order to avoid mingling with the opposite sex. Its quite absurd.

You do realise that some people have no desire to marry or don't want the burden of a family, should these people avoid masturbation for life? Or what about a woman who is pregnant or on her period where she might feel uncomfortable having intercourse. Whats your solution, force ourselves to wait a few weeks, for some action? ) Or even worse, when a couple have arguments, perhaps break up and live separately. You might be out of action for a year or two, maybe more if you're unlucky. )

Rigid thinking such as this is rife in Sectarian Islam, Catholicism, Orthodox Judaism etc. You would expect a Sunni scholar to advise you to get married in order to avoid masturbation - as if thats a logical thing do do.

It does not matter about having babies. Homosexual acts will not produce babies, however they are not ok.

Ok sis, sorry for not understanding.

We can have two-somes and hand-somes but not three-somes.

All this nonsense about masturbating being a sin and all is not islam but influences from christianity and judaism. The initial question was if the term fasting also includes masturbation. To me this is an entirely individual question with an individual answer. Whatever makes you feel like you have broken your fast, then so it is.

I dont know but I never felt sexual pleasure is something Allah will ever judge us by. His only concern seems that we do not break oaths or promises we make to someone we have decided to make family with or that we hurt someone while seeking for our pleasures.
I am sorry to say but I have not found one quranic verse where it says "You are not allowed to enjoy the pleasures we have given to you"..........Instead He gives us fair warning that if we let these pleasures given by Him to take over our lives (alcoholism, gambling, lewdness) we are going astray from the islamic path.
