May peace and blessings and mercy of Allah be upon you all angel
okay I have got a question about this and I am hoping you guys can answer plz I beg you reply politely as you guys are free-minded and follower of god/Allah, if I ask this in a different forum I will be killed elektro so that is excatly why I am here pr so plz reply nicely & & &
okay here http//free-minds.org/women/scarf.htm you good people are saying that hijab(covering head) aint mandatory right?
THIRD RULE OF DRESS CODE FOR WOMEN

The first regulation of DRESS CODE for Muslim women is in 726, the second is in 2431 and the third is in 3359.

"O prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the wives of the believers that they shall LENGTHEN their garments. Thus, they will be recognized and avoid being insulted. God is Forgiver, Most Merciful." 3359

In 3359, God sets the other regulation for the dress code for the Muslim women during the prophet's life. Although the verse is talking to the prophet which means this regulation applies to the time of the prophet, just like the order in 492, the description fits the spirit of Islam, and can teach us a great deal.

If you reflect on this verse and how God ordered the prophet to tell his wives, his daughters and the wives of the believers to lengthen their garments, you would understand the great wisdom of the MOST WISE, the MOST MERCIFUL. In this verse, God, DELIBERATELY, (and all the TRUE believers know that everything GOD says, does, or did is DELIBERATE) said, tell them, to lengthen their garments, and never said how long is long.

God could have said tell them to lengthen their garments to their ankles or to their mid-calf or to their knees, but HE DID NOT. He did not, OUT OF HIS MERCY, not because HE FORGOT as God does not forget. God knows that we will be living in different communities and have different cultures and insists that the minor details of this dress code will be left for the people of every community to hammer for themselves.

The parts that made me think, I've highlighted them, so now here is my question it is simple, ah well plz do not get angry, remove if inappropriate, so what I wana ask if If in a western country a Muslim female/girl wears skirt around the knees would that be haram? Now I said for western country only, because there it is mentioned that god knows we will be living in different culture and communities, so in western country would god give sins? and in that article it is also mentioned women living in egypt will not accept modesty of one from NY, and etc etc. so, & plz answer politely. now, the reason I am asking is not cause I like seeing porn, plz understand that, it is because I use to live in canada, so i just wana know.

salam luthador. i have researched the subject and provided the quran verses that command the head covering for women as obligatory/farz.

allah says in surah al nur 241 this surah has been sent upon you and made obligatory and sent upon within ayat between them that you may speak them. 2431 says and say to the momin women lower their sight and protect their purity and not display their adornment except what is open and set forth their head cover to their bosom.

allah demands all the ayat in this verse, and anything in between be observed as obligatory. The word fard is explicitly present in 241. Therefore all the following ayat are fard and obligatory. The following ayat 2431 requires momin women to extend their head coverings to their bosoms. momin women must have a obligatory head covering that they are to extend to cover their bosoms.

      allah is the lawgiver.

        ls,
If Al Quran does not give a specific length, then we cant say what specific length is acceptable or not acceptable. In my opinion, a skirt longer than knee length would be reasonably modest in most "Western" countries.

2431 has been discussed in significant detail, more so than Al Araf's post above, and the conclusion was that "khimaar" meaning headscarf is a possibility, but not the only option.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

salam luthador and wakas. my reply was confined to the issue of head covering only.

i have not researched the issue of what constitutes obligatory clothing for men and women and therefore have not stated a conclusion as to clothing.

          allah is the teacher.

Thank you for your reply ), but wait a minute, you have me confused again , so is head covering mandatory or not? C'mon now in every free minded islamic site (like this one, and islam-quran.org) they/you are saying it is not. And when I read dr.rashad's translation, I found it says somewhere (sorry cannot find verse) subdue their eyes, and not reveal parts which is not neccessary, well in quran-islam.org it is written that the latter is made personal and cultural. I think it is true. So Please get angry not as you guys are free minded but I am going for that. But plz reply politely thank you in advance ).

salam luthador. head covering is mandatory. this comes straight from the quran. there is no need to go to various websites. you have your quran, i have given you the verses. all that the other websites will do i introduce irrelevant information. the only person who makes the rules for muslims is allah. his rules are in his book the quran. the quran says its mandatory.

              allah is the lawgiver.

I don't see the arabic word for head(raas) in Al-Quran. Can you please quote a verse giving details for women to cover their head as opposed to bosom which is my current understanding of covering.

                PEACE

Thank you, but actually for a stupid guy like me there is the need of going to various sites haha this is because I need them to be interpreted to me. Well I've read 2431 And tell the believing women to subdue their eyes, and maintain their chastity. They shall not reveal any parts of their bodies, except that which is necessary. They shall cover their chests, and shall not relax this code in the presence of other than their husbands...
Well over there it doesn't seem to be saying anywhere about Hijab? It is about chest. So it is saying that chest has to be covered all the time other than in presence of husband, father and kids. But those sites seem to be correct it does not say anything about head. "They shall not reveal any parts of their bodies, except that which is necessary." This doesn't neccesarily mean the head. Well different people seem to be having different point of view so my confusion never ends. ( but thanks. I appreciate.

Put it this way luthador_sucks. If The God wanted to mention covering the head(raas) he would have said so...law giving verse are clear like he said and he wouldn't have left it to guess work or confusion.

For me its clear no head covering.....its only confusing if you don't let go of your tradition and culture.

salam luthador. no you are wrong, you have seen the verse, i translated it for you and you are being blind. there is no reason to continue in dispute.

i will repeat it again, dont ignore what i post

the word head cover is right there in 2431 there is no dispute whatseover of its existence. head cover is head cover. whether you use a tarpaulin, mattress, blanket, hijab, shawl, burqa, niqab, is a poor attempt to reduce the verse to an absurd extreme. the verse says head covering, therefore a woman must use a head covering. dont be one of those people whom the quran refers to as those who read a verse and then go what does allah mean by this verse. if you are a woman cover your head in public and at home before strangers.

                      allah is the teacher.

Well, I am from bangladesh, in my culture there is no head covering fashion at all. In fact most muslim women in my country do not cover.

salam prince. i request you show that khamarahum does not mean your head covering or withdraw your misleading post. the issue is not the existence of the word head, that is misleading and false. khamarahum means your head covering.

salam samia. allah does not name a person who is to say this to believing women. therefore i believe to raise this as an issue is outside the quran.

salam luthador. to claim you dont see the word head is as ridiculous as claiming because you dont see the word foot, therefore a shoe has nothing to do with what you wear on your foot.

hey hey there, take it easy now. I thought this was supposed to be a free minded muslims forum, but you seem to be over bearingly conservative. Well, I really do not know whose translation your using, is it done by your self? Well I am using the translations of dr.rashad khalifa. In his one, I already showed the word head is not found and other interpreters(in this website and quran-islam.org) are apparently saying that the words khamir (or something like that, sorry i forgot as i am dull) is mistranslated to covering head when it should have been bosom. well what they are showing is more logical and i've compared it one in my own language and it matches. Well anyway now I want to know what other people of this forum says, i understand what you are saying and thank you. D. and plz I really do not want to start a debate with you the reason why I objected was because of those websites and in the translated version i use, i did not find head as mentioned in those sites. So if you debate, plz prove the people of those websites(including this one) first. thank you.

peace LS, Al araf is the only recently frequent member i know of on this forum who takes this position regarding the head scarf issue. trawling the forum sections or using the search function is a good way to find all the threads which discuss the matter. (wakas should be proud of me )
