peace LS, Al araf is the only recently frequent member i know of on this forum who takes this position regarding the head scarf issue. trawling the forum sections or using the search function is a good way to find all the threads which discuss the matter. (wakas should be proud of me )

Well could you please show me the links to thosw? If you do I'd really appreciate it.

Al Afran, again I thank you a lot for sharing, but it is only your perspective, please do not start critizing me, remember you are not Allah, you may not assert (i got this line from a book called will of allah, lol its cool). Now I need to know other people's perpective as well so thank you al afran i appreciate.

salam samia. allah does not name a person who is to say this to believing women. therefore i believe to raise this as an issue is outside the quran.

allah is the best of those who teach.

      Salaam Al Araf
How is it an issue outside the qur'aan?
Do you have any other example from the qur'aan where God issues a command just in this way, through "say", a third party? Is this even the language of the many commands and prohibitions in this chapter?

            ls,
Let me explain it simply, the verse says "draw your khimaar over your chest". The word khimaar in Classical Arabic dictionaries can mean "headcover" as well as any "cover". So, it is possible to interpret it as "headcover" but that is not the only option.

            I recommend the search fucntion.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

salam luthador. i respect the humble reply from samia and yourself. i am reproducing one of the standard translations here to save time.

7431 and we have set none but angels as guardians of the fire; and we have fixed their number only as a trial for unbelievers, in order that the people of the book may arrive at certainty, and the believers may increase in faith, and that no doubts may be left for the people of the book and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say, what symbol does allah intend by this, thus does allah leave to stray whom he pleases, and guide whom he pleases; and none can know the forces of your lord, except him, and this is no other than a warning to mankind.

allah is the one who warns.

okay,... so what you are saying is that I am a disbeliever? for one simple thing as hijab you think that? no problem i respect your opinion, but i am not. And i never said anything like what you highlighted, i am only having doubts because i do not understand properly as i am dull(i have said it several times). after seeing quran-islam.org and and this website about what it says about head scarf it is clear that it is not mandatory(by the way we are not using your translation, we are using dr.rashad khalifa's) now plz i wish not to debate you, but I am sticking to what it says in this website, because the translation used here is very authentic compared to any others. and clearly the word head is not even used and i compared that with a translation of quran in my language(bengali) and it matches. Allah's signs are quite clear. So now do not start critisizing me i beg u for ur pardon, but this is my point of view and you are not Allah. my point of view is different from that of conservatives like your self, sorry. And most people around here also seem to be agreeing that head covering is not mandatory. Thank you for sharing your point of view once agan. I really appreciate D

Why do you think he means that? Remember he does not know Arabic, just like you, and maybe he does not exactly know what this verse says, because the word (symbol , ramz) does not exist in it. Moreover, the verse in question (2431)does not contain a parable ( mathal).

But in the Quran khimar and related words have no suggestion of 'head' but more of a cover. The proposed meaning of draw you headcovers over your bosoms makes no sense anyway (do the people who claim this claim that women can show their midrift?). The Sunni and Shia people then patronize God and then claim, out of their own prejudices, that God really meant to tell the women to cover practically everything to 'protect them' from being viewed upon as sexual objects (and it is in the countries where this code is in place where women are viewed most sexually).

This topic is, in my opinion, one that is spoken/written about too much and is in reality a classic exposition of such people's general ignorance and their opposition to the Quran.

i agree. also is the nature of a headscarf that it does have the ability to be drawn over one's bosoms? i have never had the opportunity to inspect one closely but it doesnt seem to be the case. a "cover" or shawl would make more sense. for me the head scarf issue is a symbol of everything that is wrong with traditionally interpreted islam. can't fathom that some women have actually committed suicide over not being allowed to wear them in certain places in turkey.

I do not know personal things about you, nor do I want to judge you... but please, I request you stop criticizing youself.

Being young does not make you any less human than the rest of us. You have displayed signs of intelligence.

Also... do not give so much credit to Al Araf.

Just because someone throws their "I'm so much better than you" attitude around this forum, DOES NOT make them better than you.

                                        Peace

Thanks but the reason I am giiving him(rest of conservatives and wana be radicals) is because there is no point of wasting time debating them. so peace.

You are right about that. Anyway, please don't criticize yourself in the future. sun
