    Peace Mazhar, everyone,

"If things do not improve" is a total/complete fabrication and ascribing lies to the god. The three remedies occur at the same time as evident by the "wa" between them. We should not distort or twist the god's message to fit our understandings.

DRB also means "prevent/hinder" (http//www.studyquran.co.uk/PRLonline.htm) and a very logical meaning of 434 would be as follows

434 ...........As for those women from whom you fear uprising/disloyalty, then 1. you shall advise them, and 2. distance them in the bedchamber, and 3. prevent/hinder them. If they respond to you, then do not seek a way over them; God is High, Great.

Take measures to prevent them/hinder them from disloyalty/uprising, for example by taking steps to remove the source/cause of their potential uprising/disloyalty etc. You fear "nushuz" implies it is pre-emptive and prevent/hinder would be more in line with the measures being pre-emptive.

All three measures have to be applied at the same time.

    Example scenario

Wife goes out on a wild shopping spree, uses foul language on husband.

Husband 1. Advises her this behavior has to stop and, 2. deserts her in bed and 3. prevents/hinders her from the wild shopping spree by cutting the resources by not giving her any extra funds and stops talking to her until she stops using the foul language etc. If she changes be good, else divorce her in a nice manner?

    Salam,

But this is full of self contradictions. Three things can't be done simultaneously. One is to be done inside the bed room and it would be certainly at that point and length of time when both are in the bed room. Lovingly and affectionately advising and seperating in the bed room can't be two same things happending simultaneously. Distancing somebody away is the opposite of "waaz" lovingly and affectionately admonishing some one which is desirous of nearness. What has been placed in the parentheses could conveniently even be placed straight since sequence is reflected in the verse.

What is the evidence that "waw" means that things are occuring necessariy at one time ?

DRB also means "prevent/hinder" (http//www.studyquran.co.uk/PRLonline.htm) and a very logical meaning of 434 would be as follows

I would appreciate if you can make a reference to a standard dictionary of Classical Arabic instead of referring to a website which is under construction and does not mention what is the source of such meanings.

        Peace,

If you have heart disease and high blood pressure and a doctor tells you "stop smoking and cut down eating salt and cut down cholesterol intake and control your blood pressure by these medicines", then does he mean you to do all those things or is he telling you to only do one of those and if that does not work out then do the other and so on?

2129 ?Our Lord, and send amongst them a messenger from among themselves, that 1. he may recite to them Your revelations and 2. teach them the Scripture and the wisdom, and 3. purify them. You are the Noble, the Wise.?

        Sequence is "recite, teach, purify"

2151 As We have sent a messenger to you from amongst yourselves to 1. recite Our revelations to you, and 2. purify you, and 3. teach you the Scripture and the wisdom, and teach you what you did not know.

        Sequence is "recite, purify, teach"

Does this mean that the messenger first did one and then the other after some time, in the sequence mentioned, or does this mean he did all those things at the same time? If the sequence is important then the sequence in the above two signs is different which proves it is not sequential.

What has been placed in the parentheses could conveniently even be placed straight since sequence is reflected in the verse.

I can't believe I am seeing the above.

378 And from amongst them is a group that twist their tongues with the book so that you may think it is from the book, while it is not from the book, and they say it is from the god while it is not from the god, and they say about the god lies while they know.

Wrong example. It does show one aspect of "waw" only.I cannot understand why do you apply English principles on the Arabic language.Look at the example.

          (163)

          Events connected by Waw
          1Can be simultaneous
          2Can be at different times
So many prophets are connected with" Waw". Did all of them get revelation at the same time or one by one ?
I do not know what is your source of "Arabic Grammar".
Secondly, I am still waiting for Some Classical Arabic Dictionary Reference for the meaning which you put but you are AVOIDING it.

            peace QS,

The meaning of hindered/prevent/restrain etc are from Lane, see pdf pages, specifically
            http//www.studyquran.org/LaneLexicon/Volume5/00000064.pdf

It's not exactly difficult to find it.

I have also added the dictionaries used as you asked about it in another thread, see the PRL homepage.

What verses were you referring to with your previous example? What chapter?

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

              Peace QS,

You are giving wrong example too. Jonah, Job, Aaron, and Solomon are being mentioned after Jesus in your quoted sign, which proves it is not sequential. Of course all the remedies cannot be done at exactly the same time and obviously they are done at different times but not necessarily in the sequence mentioned. What I meant by "at the same time" was that they all should be done and not necessarily in the sequence mentioned. I apologize for my unclear statement of "at the same time". What I meant was those remedies are not sequential in the sequence mentioned and all have to be done for the "nushuz" being feared. No more comments from me on this issue.

                Dear Brother
                Thanks for co-operation.
You can call it as my "mistake" but I could not find this meaning on the page you mentioned.
Would you please tell the column number of this page on which it is mentioned because I fear I might have missed it and approximately zone like upper 1/3 or middle or lower?.

Again you are mistaken.Who said that "waw" shows sequence? I did not say that.
Our contention was "simultaneous" or non -simultaneous" occurence shown by "waw".
Sequence was not under discussion at all. That is your after thought.

Men are protectors/caretakers of women with/because of what Allah has bestowed peculiarity/individuality to some over some and for reason that they have spent their wealth.

The wife has surfaced from the Bed Rood. The strained and suspended intimate matrimonial relations have become evident to the members of family of wife and husband. Now the next stage is for others to attempt resolving their problem.

And if you people apprehend that it might result in partition/separation between them two coupled,

then for reason of attempting reconciliation you people appoint a revivalist from husband's family and one reconciler from wife's family so that if they two have the intention of straightening the affairs Allah will foster harmony amongst the two.

Therefore righteous women remain sincerely straight; they themselves guard, in the absence of them when they are away from sight, what Allah has protected

Not all men are dogs but most are. Thank goodness I am single. but I also know some of my old friends are still happly married after years and no religion involved. I also know many christians who have been married for over 50 years and still going strong.

I read bits of it. but show me a verse in the bible where it says for a husband to slap his wife? and I willturn away. come on somebody show me a verse that it says Husbands slap your wifes if she disobeys. if you cannot find one then it is mans theory not God's. Men who do this should be put behind bars, and he will probally get a bashing in prison 10 fold anyway now that is vengence oh and Vengence is from God too now that will be worse.

It would appear that you are as different from "main stream" Muslims as I am from "main stream" Christians. I'm glad I found you all.

Most Christians believe in one God, they just get a little confused with this trinity thing (which, of course was not in the early Christian Church, was put there by the Church of Rome about 900 years ago)
