YUSUFALI "O Mary! worship Thy Lord devoutly Prostrate thyself, and bow down (in prayer) with those who bow down."
PICKTHAL O Mary! Be obedient to thy Lord, prostrate thyself and bow with those who bow (in worship).
SHAKIR O Marium! keep to obedience to your Lord and humble yourself, and bow down with those who bow.

1-Was she doing her prayers in a temple with men ?
2-Why the order to prostrate first then the order to bow down in second ?

      Peace Jawad,
Just a side note, I believe that Professor Amina Wadud used this verse as a justification when she led a prayer at a masjid. At my masjid, the men and woman pray separately but side by side instead of front and back, which I don't mind.

She conveniently and naively ignored the word "along with", which would not have permitted her to lead.

            Peace,
Why should Sister Amina be allowed to lead prayer?

she shouldn't lead the prayer and she is not allowed to lead prayer . The only part that she allowed her to lead prayer is a the ennemies of Islam.

she is allowed to lead prayer if the congregation is only females but when there are men, she is not allowed to lead prayer . and why she is not allowed to lead prayer if there are men because she is woman.

A woman may not lead the men in prayer for the simple and honest reason that if she is leading them, and she bows and prostrates in front of them, there is a risk that the men, being creatures who are really aware of the beauty of women, might be distracted by seeing her in front of them. And when a woman recites Qur'an or makes the Adhan in a beautiful voice, this also is attractive to men and can make them concentrate less on the message than the messenger.

There are many who would poo-poo this explanantion and say it is unfair, claiming that men are so simple-minded and sex-obsessed that it is feared they'll be distracted simply by the presence of a woman in front of them. Well, I think a realistic look at the world in front of us will put the lie to that protest. Men are extremely visual and are attracted by the beauty of women. Why else would women subject themselves to suffocation-inducing jeans, ankle-wrecking high heels, and thongs that split their private parts in half? They do so because they KNOW that men are visual creatures and that they can easily be distracted by a beautiful woman.

A very reasonable explanation; something rare from hadeethists.

As far as I know that is the standard explanation from hadeethists. Whether reasonable or not that is another question.

                          this is the real reason

The Prophet SAW has said "Prayer is annulled by a dog, a donkey and a woman (if they pass in front of the praying people)."

She was a hermaphrodite... that is what some suggest.

                              peace all,

Here is my rendering based on my studies of The Quran

O Maryam, be dutiful/obedient to/for your Lord, and acknowledge* and humble yourself with those who humble themselves.

                              *or "give recognition".

The latter word is masculine plural, implying she is to humble herself with those who humble themselves, thus at the very minimum it can be reasonably argued she can "rk3" in the presence of men.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

You cannot avoid the other meanings. Not forgetting... Jesus is son of mary... That's a key point. Men of course would be in the presence of men.

                                  Salaam thereformer1 et al.

You have sort of predicted my response but, I feel that in such a situation, the man is at fault. Thus, why should my weakness allow me to restrict a lady? In my opinion, if we restricted certain portions of peoples freedom everytime it might cause someone else to sin, we would have to pretty much restrict everything.
                                  Examples
If men think women in the workplace have a pretty voice, how will they work? Should we separate men and women in the workplace?
What if males and females can not concentrate on the message because they believe the imam has a really nice voice, should we stop the imam from leading prayer since males and females "could be easily distracted by a beautiful (voice)?"
Hell, what if one of the males thinks the imam has a nice bottom, should we ban that imam from leading a prayer amongst males?

This is an issue that I would hope democratic processes would decide but you guys can guess my vote.

                                  Salaam

This is an issue that I would hope democratic processes would decide but you guys can guess my vote.

                                    Salaam

Work place? That is in regards to lsavery.

                                      Salaam thereformer1 et al.

                                      Wa Alaykom-Asalam.

You have sort of predicted my response but, I feel that in such a situation, the man is at fault. Thus, why should my weakness allow me to restrict a lady?

This is God's laws, God created men with a weakness, the female by her voice, her steps and her beauty .Men are inclined over these things . it is not you who didn't allow a Lady, in fact it is God who didn't allow her.

the verse (34) from surah (4).
                                      34. Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because All?h has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means.

they translated the word "" using the verb "maintain and protect", but these two verbs are under the meanings of the word in Arabic because "" in Arabic language means "" and when in Arabic use " " it means that man is the one who must lead in everything (lead the prayer, lead the house, lead the responsability of providing money to his wife and to his children ...etc).

In my opinion, if we restricted certain portions of peoples freedom everytime it might cause someone else to sin, we would have to pretty much restrict everything.

As you said "In your opinion" .If we take everyone's opinion, there will be no need of obeying Quran or God .
We do not restrict people from their freedom, but I think you know that freedom is always with limits or frontier.

                                      Examples
If men think women in the workplace have a pretty voice, how will they work? Should we separate men and women in the workplace?

As for your examples, men and women shouldn't be in the same place neither working with each other but necessity in our age that woman must work because she has a family to support or her husband died or she can find work easy more than him or sometimes work because of routine .However women and men should be separated in the workplace .But for my opinion the real work that can a woman do is to take after her house, her children according to the verse

<<3333 " And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance," >>.

And by looking at the verse, you can see that it is an order .

What if males and females can not concentrate on the message because they believe the imam has a really nice voice, should we stop the imam from leading prayer since males and females "could be easily distracted by a beautiful (voice)?"

You're comparing the voice of a woman which is a soft voice attract the attention of men with a voice of men a beautiful voice of men which is not soft despite his beauty .
I've heard before to a georgous voice (Amina Abo Zaid)of a girl reciting Quran, and I tried to listen to the message but I couldn't because of her voice , I paid attention to her voice more than the message . And I've heard a beautiful voice of a man reciting Quran and I did listen to the message more than his voice and his voice was like a flame in understanding very well the message and I really felt the difference, so it is God's will.

Hell, what if one of the males thinks the imam has a nice bottom, should we ban that imam from leading a prayer amongst males?

No, we should ban the one who thinks that this imam has a nice Bottom because he will make Fitna plus his sex deviation, why would a person thinks that Imam has a nice Bottom?

                                          and really we disgusting her

Who is "we"? Are you using the pluralis majestatis?

There are many people who appreciate her efforts and support her. Otherwise they wouldn't be going to the prayers she is leading. I don't really see why people need to get so up in arms about that.

She is an excellent scholar, and her book "Qur'an and Woman" a great read.

All that stuff about men not being able to pray when they see a woman is just bollocks and insulting to anyone with a brain and an shred of decency. If you feel you will be distracted by the mere sight or sound of a woman in a house of God, then stay at home and pray in your room. If you feel offended by a female imam, go to one of the countless mosques that have a male one. Simple.

it means that man is the one who must lead in everything (lead the prayer, lead the house, lead the responsability of providing money to his wife and to his children ...etc).

Nonsense. That's what weak men who interpret the scriptures according to their own desires wish to believe.

The Queen of Sheba was in charge of a whole nation, and God praised her for her spirituality, wisdom, and leadership qualities. He did NOT say she should hand her business over to a man since only men are capable of leadership.
