No man can "protect" you from harassment and rape unless he's around you 24/7.

And what do you do if the "protector" becomes the person the woman needs to be protected from? For example when a husband rapes his wife, or an uncle rapes his niece?

That's one of the reasons why this whole "men are the protectors" claim is a bit difficult to define.

            6611

            And Allah citeth an example for those who believe the wife of Pharaoh when she said My Lord! Build for me a home with thee in the Garden, and deliver me from Pharaoh and his work, and deliver me from evil-doing folk;

And Mary, daughter of 'Imran, whose body was chaste, therefor We breathed therein something of Our Spirit. And she put faith in the words of her Lord and His scriptures, and was of the obedient.

The problem lies when some odd events are equalized with the whole phenomenon. Thousands of women have been raped in US but it never means that America has gone barbaric or uncivilized or that the concept of State being protector of its citizens has blown into air.

I was referring to the word "Qawwamoona". Many women also act and perform as "protectors".

Mazhar sahib, its women's world alright, but we cannot change the meaning of Quran, to please bunch of Feminists, sorry to say.
I no where meant that Men are superior to women but, clearly Quran has assigned the duty of family head for MEN and that is it, however we may try to twist and appease the Feminists.

A question for you Sir, Whom did Allah created first? Man or Woman? and Why? I hope you will answer me in detail so I can too correct my self. I hope you will not answer like others it is not relevant.

Mazhar Sahib, why you keep on giving negative examples of America and west, that hurts..You should tell us about Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan instead.

                        Quran 41
O Mankind (men and women!) You have a common origin. Your Lord began the creation of life at the unicellular level. There was one life cell that divided into two, male and female (699). (Evolution took place, as has been alluded to in this Book (168, 2050, 2130, 2245, 3020, 3128, 5149). Eventually, numerous men and women came into existence on the earth. Since all of you have this common origin, you must consider all mankind as one community (1019, 5725). Your first step in that direction is to strengthen your family relations. Be careful of your duty to God in Whose Name you expect rights from one another. God ever Watches over you.

                          Salaam alaikum.

IMHO, Adam was created from (the so called)"Eve", and not the other way around.

In verse 4/1, the "nafsun wahidatun/single person" from which mankind originated is gendered female. Verse 3/59 also confirms this according to which the example of Eesa is like the example of Adam(3/59), (at least in the manner that both have been created from a woman alone, a "nafsun wahidatun", each)

This is an interesting observation, confirmed by verse 7189

He it is Who did create you from a single soul, and therefrom did make her mate that he might take rest in her. And when he covered her she bore a light burden, and she passed (unnoticed) with it, but when it became heavy they cried unto Allah, their Lord, saying If thou givest unto us aright we shall be of the thankful.

                                  Mark of a woman

Any significant social movement in recent history has been characterised by hair, be it a punk rocker's Mohican or a hippy's centre-parted locks. It is unusual for a clique or a group not to use hair to make a statement.

"Hair is so significant because of what it is and where it is," says Dr Martin Skinner, social psychologist at the University of Warwick.

                                  Bad hair day

"It is part of us, much more intimate than things like clothes. If you cut it away, you are cutting away a bit of yourself. Whatever we do with it is very much part of our identity."

In Britney's case the act holds so much symbolism because her blonde locks were her trademark. The cultural significance of a woman's hair means it is one of the most public sanctions that can be imposed on them by themselves or others, say psychologists.

                                  Britney's famous blonde locks
So why is hair - particularly long hair - viewed as such a defining part of a woman and inextricably linked to femininity?

Zoologist Desmond Morris suggests that women traditionally have long hair because their ancestors, the aquatic apes, developed long hair to give their babies something to hang on to.

In recent times, he argues, that women have styled their hair to reflect their self-image, with long hair suggesting a certain availability.

Nature also plays a role. People are programmed to take notice of hair because it is a secondary sexual characteristic.

                                  Graceful

"Thick, healthy, long, glossy hair or fur is seen as a sign of good hormonal health and is one of the things animals use to select a mate - humans are no different," says evolutionary psychologist Nick Neave, of Northumbria University.

Why long hair is so linked to femininity could come down to many things, say experts. It is about youth, health, grace and movement.

Natalie Portman, shorn for a film role
Just look at shampoo advertisements, typically featuring models swinging their long, glossy locks. And look at how much the average women spends on her hair - ?600 a year, according to one study. Men spend just ?90.

How this association started is not so easy to answer, but it has been entrenched in what is seen as the feminine for centuries, says psychologist Lorraine Sherr. "As far back as cavemen, there are drawings of women with longer, glossier hair."

Historically a shaven head has also always had meaning - and in a woman's case, mostly negative.

It has been used as a badge of shame, often linked to sexual promiscuity. During World War II, for example, French women who fraternised with German soldiers were punished by having their heads shaved.

The reason why it is still so shocking is because it steps outside what society considers to be "the norm".

"When a woman does something like shave her head it is not what society would expect of her, or dictates to her," says psychologist Simon Moore. "People don't like it because they don't know how to act, they don't know what it means.

Why a Jew can grow his beard in order to practice his faith

But when Muslim does the same, he is an extremist and terrorist!

Why a nun can be covered from head to toe in order to devote herself to God

But when Muslimah does the same she's oppressed

When a western women stays at home to look after her house and kids she is respected because of sacrificing herself

But when a Muslim woman does so by her will, they say, 'she needs to be liberated' !

Any girl can go to university wearing what she wills and have her rights and freedom?

But when Muslimah wears a Hijab they prevent her from entering her university!

When a child dedicates himself to a subject he has potential

But when he dedicates himself to Islam he is hopeless!

When a Christian or a Jew kills someone religion is not mentioned,

but when Muslim is charged with a crime, it is Islam that goes to trial!

When someone sacrifices himself to keep others alive, he is noble and all respect him.

But when a Palestinian does that to save his son from being killed, his brother's arm being broken, his mother being raped, his home being destroyed, and his mosque being violated -- He gets the title of a terrorist! Why? Because he is a Muslim!

When there is a trouble we accept any solution? If the solution lies in Islam, we refuse to take a look at it

When someone drives a perfect car in a bad way no one blames the car .

But when any Muslim makes a mistake or treats people in a bad manner - people say 'Islam is the reason'!

Without looking to the tradition of Islam, people believe what the newspapers say.

But question what the QURAN says.

                                        Peace all,

What an endless discussion. I insist that first thing first. This is the consequence of acting otherwise. Is it that the truth is so hidden from us?I will say no.

                                          Beautiful post!!

I was once been 'warned' by the moderator on posting this beautiful picture of beautiful lady with beautiful heart..
I post it again.. for the sake of 'education' and 'culture' shock..
As I disagree with the moderator's opinion on this issue and I don't see nothing wrong with the picture below.

A beautiful and modest papuan girl...
Wearing papuan's traditional dress and accessories..

                                          Salam / Peace

ok I did not need to see that. You could at least give a warning.
