Yes! It does, they are ordered to follow command of Allah, which they were not following before,
and who holds fast to revelation of Allah is Muttaqi. The relationship between intercourse and Taqwa is following Allah?s orders and not adding and deleting any rights Allah has provided.

No sex no food no drink is building taqwah in men ? (why is only men mentioned and not women?)

Anyway, Allah is not a liar, so if he said "no sex no food not drink" would make us muttaqi, then it will happen. a Physical act would lead us to become muttaqi, right ? Just like weight lifting would make us stronger,,no sex no food no drink will make us muttaqi? ofcourse

Show me one Muttaqi who helped the two brothers in Sialkot when they were brutally killed in Ramadhan,,,? Are you sayin no1 was "fasting" that day ?

The Quran explains itself ,and the defination of a muttaqi is given as follows

    (2177)

    ??.. But righteousness is that

? One has conviction in God
    ? And the Last Day
    ? And the Angels
    ? And the Book
    ? And the prophets.

Meaning He lives in conviction (AMN) with the laws of Allah, the last day, malaika, the book and the prophets.

What is Imaan? Below are quoted works of Dr Manzoor Alam

    """Aspects of Iman

Man has been granted a mind which enables him to think, and through the instrument of intellect, is supposed to build up a system of knowledge. Reason converts the raw data supplied by the senses into knowledge and the Qur?an assigns to reason an important role in life

"The worst of beasts in the sight of Allah are the deaf and dumb who do not use their intellect to understand." (822)

This is a graphic description of the degradation of man when he does not employ reason to his service. Such a man, the Qur?an tells us, not only lives a worthless and debased life here but also renders himself unfit for the hereafter which he enters after death
Thus, Iman has to be individually acquired which requires that each of us consciously strive to acquire knowledge and understanding by using our own God-given gift of reason and intellect in the light of the revelation given in the Qur?an, so that Iman can enter our hearts.

Let us list here several aspects of Iman from the Qur?an which shed light on its reality

Iman is not to accept it with the tongue but to accept it with the heart. (28-9)
To accept everything which the Qur?an says as truth is Iman. (226)
In order to acquire Iman in Allah, it is necessary to first reject every authority other than Allah. (225-26)
Iman will lead human beings from darkness towards light. (2257)
In matters of Iman, one?s profession is irrelevant. (26111-112)
Unless Iman enters the heart, it cannot be called Iman (and consequently, one cannot call oneself Mu?min). One can only say that one has surrendered to Islam. (4914)
Allah does not discard anyone?s Iman. (2143)

Finally, an important aspect which must be emphasized here is that no form of force or coercion (direct or indirect, temporal or spiritual) can be used in connection with Iman. This is because it contradicts the very definition of Iman. (As we have seen, Iman is derived from a-m-n which means peace in the heart.) So any forced conversion cannot be allowed in Islam. In fact, forced Iman is no Iman at all.""""

    http//www.tolueislam.com/bazms/Mansoor/MA_what_is_iman.htm

None of this is possible if you do not STUDY each and every topic. To live in ?Amn? and to become a momin, one must employ the use of reason in order to gain ?Imaan?. Abstinence from food, drink and sex will not help here.

    Cont (2177)

And that he gives his cherished wealth to -

    ? Family and relatives
    ? Orphans
    ? Widows
? Those left helpless in the society
? And those whose hard-earned income fails to meet their basic needs
? Those whose running businesses have stalled
? The ones who have lost their jobs
? Whose life has stalled for any reason
    ? The disabled
? The needy wayfarer, son of the street, the homeless, the one who travels to you for assistance
? Those who ask for help
? Those whose necks are burdened with any kind of bondage, oppression, crushing debts and extreme hardship of labor.

In other words, this ?Muttaqi? has not only gained Imaan (which is not possible without studying deeply) i.e so he can live in peace with the laws of Allah, the Malaika, the Prophets, the noble book and the last day.He also know when to contribute to society putting aside his own needs for example, if he has saved money for a long period to buy a car, and someone in need requires help, he will offer it to that individual. The character of a ?Mutaqi? is such that he is always prepared to help the needy, putting others before himself. He has developed the highest level of Rehm and love for others.

    Cont (2177)

? (And righteous are) those who strive to establish the institution of Salaat, (23. 253)
? And help set up the Economic System of Zakaat.

Meaning? this ?Muttaqi?, in addition to the above qualities, has qualities of leadership too. And such attributes of leadership must resemble those of the prophet. Some of his qualities must be that he is ?Zameel? and ?Muddathtir? (just as Surah Al Muzammil and Al Muddaththir have presented the qualities of Syedana Mohammed) He must strive to work hard for establishment of Salaat and Zakaat. Such a ?Muttaqi? needs a personality that is always ready to put aside everything, for the noble cause for humanity.

    Cont (2177)
? They are true to their pledge whenever they make one
? And they remain steadfast in physical or emotional distress and in times of peril. It is they who have proven themselves to be true, and it is they who are living upright.

The ?Muttaqi? in addition to the above mentioned qualities will always keep his promises and remain steadfast in physical or emotional distress?..
    These are the ?Muttaqoun?....

In other words, Soum leads to the development of a brilliant mind, resulting in a brilliant human being to the highest form of ?Adam(iat)?

Would people still think abstinence from food, drink and sex will ever lead to such noble qualities the Quran is telling us about ?

NO, ?Soum? is definitely not the ?Abstinence? (no food, no drink, and no sex) our forefathers have portrayed for centuries.

I do not find any known culture/religion in the existing history that had made Lawful to mistreat helpless. To start with such an assumption is not a good idea at all. Then How can a ?Help less? person be a ?garment? of a person in ?power?, that is most amazing part of translation. Libas appears as cover in Quran, therefore how come a ?helpless? person is cover for any one, let alone for a Powerful.
    The root word ?lbs? means
To wear/cover, put on a garment, be clothed in, envelop, and conceal, conformed, cloak/disguise, that which is worn.
The word garment conveys feelings of warmth, closeness, protection and security. It is interesting that the root meaning of taqwa includes to safeguard, to protect, to preserve, to shield, to shelter, and to prevent. It is easy to see why the word LIBAS is used here for Husband and wife and makes no sense at all to call ?helpless? people the garments of powerful and vice-versa.

So the "achoots " "untouchables " in India, are not mistreaded ? It has been "lawful" for the society to mistread lowcasts for centauries, and this "costume" is an established fact. Its "normal" to treat them like the way they are treated. What did this kind of behaviour lead to ? That the mistreated "achoot" actually believe he is achoot/lowcast.....and dont protest to this kind of thoughts made by the "powerful" in society. But the Quran told us to stop and treat them like they are our libas. If they stop and change their behaviour towards the weak and helpless, then they are forgiven.

To be each others libas doesnt mean each others suit and jeans, it means you have common ancestor and your from each other.Humanbeings are equal .

    ?? ??
    ?? ??

    Humanity is one....

However, lets say libas means clothes, and if this verse is about men and women having sex,are you saying a woman is the mans hoody and the man is her mini skirt ?Libas is not literally in this context. A husband and wife is each others "libas", and their relationship is aknowledged by the society. Even the west knows that, why would the Quran tell us something we already know? The Quran told us what libas altaqwah is

    ?720

Then Satan deceived them in order to reveal their imperfections and fallibility to them....?

That is, Satan misled them so that their (human) errors became visible.

    ?722

So by deceit Satan brought about their downfall. They tasted of the tree of discord and started to divide into branches. Soon their imperfections became obvious and they tried to conceal them in vain with superficial courtesy. Then came a Reminder from their Lord, ?Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you that Satan is your open enemy??

Here the words waraqi aljannati? are mentioned... what is it referring to? Is Warqai Al-Jannah the green leaves from Paradise as mullahs argue, or is it the message of Allah that leads to Jannah; namely, Allah's commands? No, I do not think this is reference to the ?green leaves? from Paradise.

-When they realised they had made mistakes, they prayed for forgiveness (to reform)

723 They said, ?Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. Unless You forgive us and have Mercy on us, we will certainly be lost.?

To reform, they have waraqi al jannah which will guide them and they will have LIBAS AL TAQWAH

O Children of Adam! We have provided you with garments to cover your bodies as well as to adorn you. The best garment for you to wear, in addition, is good conduct. (Your character decorates you inside out.) These are the verses of God that they must take to heart.?

It is not a question of attire, but a "libaas" that embraces and develops the person to new heights. It is a ?Libas? which through warq al jannah helps one to achieve taqwah and become muttaqi.

You can believe that this is really green leaves from paradise as they hid behind, because they were naked and needed new clothes.
But I do not think it's about clothes just because the word libas is used. Here, ?libas al taqwah? means to prevent crime to flourish in society and the individual... we are reminded of this through warq al jannah (Allah's words, the decree).

    let us continue .727

O Children of Adam! Let not your selfish desire deceive you as it deceived your ancestors, caused them to lose their Paradise, and exposed their imperfections. A host of selfish and rebellious desires lurk within you. You can?t even see them but these Satans see you and befriend those who do not believe.

Satan misled them and they lost libas al taqwah; they lost paradise (which can only be attained with warq al-jannah ? Allah?s decrees), and their imperfections were overexposed.

I would like to see the source for RAFAS meaning ?Bad mouthing?. Regarding annisa applying to the weak is because of Women, as they are considered to be the weaker sex and they were deprived , weak and helpless folks of that society therefore it is ?women? no doubt.
You gave following example of 249

Check out lughat ul Quran of Allama Parwez for rafas. The word nisa is used for women, but the ROOt of the word means weak. Check out lughat ul Quran of allama Parwez. If you have the urdu version, read the last paragraph of nisa.

    you said
He wanted to terrify them. They (Believers with Musa) were in Hiding and only Moses went to the Palace as is evident from next verse, his confidants were giving him a suggestion to kill the sons of those believers those who are in hiding. But Pharaoh said Why not Kill Moses instead..
Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses, and let him implore his Lord. I worry lest he corrupts your religion, or spreads evil throughout the land."

I cant speculate why he said what he said, but from what he said and the Quran "bothered" to quote him,,,its obvious that he wanted to kill the abna and not nisaa. when Bush invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, his target was the "strong" ones and not the "farmers". you got the picture.

tell me how he can become muttaqi

      http//doesprayerwork.info/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/starving-child-sudan.jpg

      ?

If fasting leads to become a muttaqi, shouldnt fasting hindus and fasting zorostrians become muttaqi's too? If a Hindu and muslim have the same training program and the same diet plan, wouldnt they get the same result?

Just so you know, in the city near where i live, it is legally forbidden to give charity to beggars on the streets, for fear that they may keep coming to the streets, however at the same time, there seems to be no compensation program being prioritized (by the local government) to address the concern

So if any Government does not has any plan, shall we blame Quran for it, and try to change its meaning?

        San

And the recent murder of teenagers in the public in Pakistan--weren't police officers there? weren't many people there? Is it wrong to say that they allowed for the incident to happen? And that is even more ruthless than just bad-mouthing.

Yes! but that happens all over the world, in different societies, because of Injustice, poverty, illiteracy and many other are the reasons. Again Shall we change the meaning of Quran then?

        San

Where is the taqwa that, according to you (and numerous scholars i imagine), results from fasting?
To quote your own words The word garment conveys feelings of warmth, closeness, protection and security. It is interesting that the root meaning of taqwa includes to safeguard, to protect, to preserve, to shield, to shelter, and to prevent.
Is taqwa limited to husband-wife relationship?

dear San, actually you misunderstood the whole concept. Neither me nor any scholar has Limited Taqwa to Husband-Wife Relationship, it is only one part of it, but it is definitely part of gaining Taqwa.

What happens with the authority/government/those in power being warm, close, protecting, preserving, shielding, sheltering and securing the poors/helpless in their country, and preventing such inhuman/harmful incidents to happen to them? Is that too much to ask?

But this does not means at all WE change the meaning of Quran. If Government is not functioning so are we as individuals not functioning as per Quranic teachings.

        San

Another picture that hopefully can help open your eyes, that in some places outside your room, not only foul-mouthing happens, but also torturing as well. Why would the government allow for such incidents to happen, un-retributed?

I still can't get what you are trying to convey? Let us say if we change the Quranic meanings according to will of Qamar, You think government will start following that, I see no connection. We have to change ourselves Individually
as per existing Quranic understanding, if we constitute a society according to Quran where we help each other, pay Zakat, try to be humble, have good relations between husband and wife, do not use bribery, embezzlement, less weighing, over profiteering then we can have a good society, these all are in Quran, WE do not need any Dr. Qamar to tell us that by changing and distorting Ayats of Quran. Sorry to say.

dear Bob, I will come back to your main post, but What makes you say that a Hindu or a Zoroastrian cannot become Muttaqi?
In-fact Buddha gained Nirvana due to fasting. At beginning he fasted excessively but later on he chose the middle path.
In Hindus However, fasting is not only a part of worship, but a great instrument for self-discipline too. It is a training of the mind and the body to endure and harden up against all hardships, to persevere under difficulties and not give up. According to Hindu philosophy, food means gratification of the senses and to starve the senses is to elevate them to contemplation. Luqman, the wise once said, "When the stomach is full, the intellect begins to sleep. Wisdom becomes mute and the parts of the body restrain from acts of righteousness."

dear Bob you really have to understand the difference between Starving and Fasting. peace

No, you can't blame the Qur'aan, but you can blame the ones who distorted the meaning and not paying enough attention to learn from it.

I only gave those examples because you said previously

I do not find any known culture/religion in the existing history that had made Lawful to mistreat helpless. To start with such an assumption is not a good idea at all.

And regarding changing the meaning, good question. Who are the ones who changed the meaning?

I was asking that only because of your post that i was replying. You are right that a good husband-wife relationship is part of taqwa. And if you want to know more about what taqwa is, don't forget 2177.

Then, are you still of the opinion that the authority/those in power and the helpless shouldn't be like a garment to each other? I see you're not arguing that point anymore.

Don't be sorry. That is actually a good intention, to preserve the words of Qur'aan. Just think more critically. And please also don't limit Zakat to a small amount of money. If you think the traditional interpretation of Al-Qur'aan is intact, you will have no problem answering all of the questions here http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9601350

Peace Ayisha, you're right that women have their own strength that men just don't have.

Chapter Al-Nisaa' starts with a narration of how women are the ones entrusted with the role of bearing children, and in that context, they are the ones needing protection. The same early verses also talk about orphans and how they are helpless without protecting parents.

Not eating for 12-15 hours is starving. but you can call it fasting if you like. Call it "bratt" or "rozah", it doesnt matter.

I dont believe in fairytales, i believe in facts. i couldnt see any "rozedar" muttaqi when the two boys were killed. What buddah gained doesnt matter, the so called no sex no food ritual of our muslim brothers is not making them muttaqi.

I dont follow hindu concepts so i wont be impressed by their "self-discipline " fasting rituals. I follow no other book than the Quran, and the Quran is not inspired by hindus. pr

How can a zorostrian or hindu become muttaqi by starving, ooh im sorry, fasting &, and still not fit the definition given by 2177. read th definition again.

Fasting is a different subject and what government should do is a different subject, however Taqwa can be achieved by both.

And regarding changing the meaning, good question. Who are the ones who changed the meaning?

Many, and there are still many who are trying to. But don't tell me the meaning of Fasting was changed from what Dr.Qamar is trying to feed us.

                      San

I was asking that only because of your post that i was replying. You are right that a good husband-wife relationship is part of taqwa

                      Sure it is.

                      san

Then, are you still of the opinion that the authority/those in power and the helpless shouldn't be like a garment to each other? I see you're not arguing that point anymore.

why would I change my opinion. That is pure Non sense, how can a "help less" be a "help" to others, he/she is "helpless".
If you are considering wives as help less then it is your fault, husband wife relation ship is on the basis of equality, with both having their own duties to fulfill, they sure can be "garments" for each other.

Just think more critically. And please also don't limit Zakat to a small amount of money. If you think the traditional interpretation of Al-Qur'aan is intact, you will have no problem answering all of the questions here http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9601350

How do you came to conclusion that I have limited Zakat to any limit, please do not assume.

Check out lughat ul Quran of Allama Parwez for rafas.

What page? I was not able to spot it. Do you have any edited edition?

Allama sahib was a great scholar no doubt, his book Kitab-Ul-Taqdeer is one of my favorite.
He says in explanation of Ayat 2187

Yeah bata diya gaya kay, yeah subh say raat tak khaney peenay aur Jinsi amaal say Mujtanib rehnay ka naam hay.

I don't see any "bad mouthing" in this one, he like any balanced minded person saw "Rafas" as any one can see

Take note that fasting is only from dawn to dusk During other hours, eating, drinking or having sexual intercourse with one?s wife is not prohibited. The relationship between the two spouses is a most intimate one. Monasticism engendered the concept that celibacy is a means of attaining closeness to Allah, but He is well aware of the importance of the intimate relationship between spouses in fulfilling human needs, and also the perversions, fantasies and self-deception to which renunciation of marital relationships lead (57/21). Human beings may set unnatural limits upon themselves, but Allah?s Law rising above all such limits, dispels your doubts and anxieties and makes it clear that in the hours from dusk to dawn you are permitted to cohabit with your wives, as well as partake of food and drink. From dawn to dusk you are required to fast. If after dusk you are detained at your centre (of training or activity e.g. Masjid) in order to ponder or resolve some important issue or problem, then you should devote your total attention to the task in hand and refrain from going home.

These are the Laws laid down by Allah regarding matters which have been discussed above. You should adhere to them. Allah explains His Laws clearly so that people can fully understand and follow them.

It is very clear from his understanding that What is Saum and and what we are accepted to do in it.

                        Bob

I cant speculate why he said what he said, but from what he said and the Quran "bothered" to quote him,,,its obvious that he wanted to kill the abna and not nisaa

There is no need to speculate, it is very clear in Quran. He wanted to Kill "Musa" and his Confidants wanted to kill "sons" of believers, so they will come out from Hiding.
                        Bob

These believers standing in front of Pharaoh were fully grown powerful males.

There were no believers standing in front of Pharaoh except Musa, as evident from the verse i quoted.

                        Bob

The other term Annisa not only means women but it also applies
to the weak, deprived, and helpless folks of the society.

And when he brought them the truth from Us, they said, "Kill the sons of those who have believed with him and keep their women alive." But the plan of the disbelievers is not except in error.

they/the inner confidants said, "You people kill the sons of those who have believed along with him and let remain their daughters live"

If Annisa is used as weak or helpless in this verse you would see the obvious error in it according to your translation,

                        Bob

Hence, correct translation for Abna Allazina Amanu would be ?Those Abna who became believers?.What the Pharaoh would have gotten by killing the son of a believer? The adult believers in peace posed a challenge forPharaoh?s authority, not their infant sons. Adult or fully grown males possess the physical capacities and will power to rebel against a tyrant and bring about a change in the regime. These believers standing in front of Pharaoh were fully grown powerful males.

Now this is pure non sense, at first there were no believers standing in front of Pharaoh, except Musa, and he too was taking refuge with Allah, clearly indicating that physically he or even his believers as you insist do not possessed any threat to Pharaoh. You clearly are trying to distort Historical and Quranic facts.
These people were actually helpless and weak, the only aid they had was from Allah. Therefore using annisa for weak is a clear error in the aayt above. The believers who had no power as compared to Pharaoh are weak "kill them" and then kill again the "weak".

Weak and helpless are no garments/guards to each other rather to the rich and powerful, they actually need help from those who are in power and rich, and there are many many Ayats for this in Quran, the thing is following those Ayats with spirit, rather trying to change whole concept of Fasting, and creating new Verses.

We are discussing Saum here right? so how do the understanding of fasting from this aayat makes a government corrupt?
Fasting is a different subject and what government should do is a different subject, however Taqwa can be achieved by both.
Therefore still your post does not make any sense.

For sure, i'm discussing Sawm, i.e. that one does everytime one witnesses a shahru ramaDana.
Fasting (raza&#039 is indeed a different subject. Seeing Sawm from the fasting viewpoint hinders the observer from the more important action (i.e. restraining/stopping such intensely-heated incident from happening/continuing), hence confusion on the observer's part.
If you are sure you have gained taqwa from fasting, then congratulations for you, maybe you should keep to it for the rest of your life.

Also, the "weaker" part of the society (e.g. worker class) still have their role, and in many ways the "stronger" part relies on them to fulfill their needs.

Let us assume that Soam means Fasting. Then, five out of six times Quran uses it as a punishment. But the beginning of the above verses is stunning. Here Quran states that the reason Fasting has been prescribed because it will make you Mutaqi. Is not it strange that the same act used as a punishment five times is now being prescribed as a gift or blessing? How is it possible that the same physical trial used as a punishment on various occasions suddenly becomes a blessing that helps people become Mutaqi (righteous)? If we consider it a punishment here as well, how come God subjected the whole Ummah (Muslim Nations) to this punishment from the day one? Does Ummah deserve this kind of punishment or is Siam something other than keeping oneself hungry and thirsty?

How has he presumed that it is punishment? in those five places
and as one of my friend says it

An omission or doing a wrong act shows neglect fullness which is negative/shortcoming to meanings of Taqwa. To revert to original state of Taqwa fasting is suggested. This is for improvement not punishment.

Soam or Saum cannot be Equal to punishment.

Dr Qz has done same mistake in translating and postmortem of verse 2183 which BOb did while talking about "annisa" in Verse I pointed out earlier. They both do not bother to read the very next verses let the whole Quran and understand the whole meaning, instead they try to build their whole argument on the verse which they think suites their agenda.

and regarding Taqwa and Muttaqi I have discussed in previous post.

Also waiting for the source for "rafas".

Your really need to follow Allah and stop ur personality worship. Indeed Allama Parwez was a great scholar, but you are becoming a sectist who have closed ur eyes to anything else.

this time read and try to use ur brain, parrot(use ur OWN if u got one,not Allama Parwez's)!

You said How has he presumed that it is punishment? in those five places

in each instance, it is clear that if violations occur, the result will lead to expiations. If one is to exercise caution or be mindful in order to prevent such situations from occurring, why are penalty measures put in place?
According to oxforddictionaries.com, the definition of ?punishment? is given as follows

The infliction or imposition of a penalty as retribution for an offence ?crime demands just punishment?
In other words, if one commits offenses / wrongful acts, he will receive a penalty accordingly.

then observe Abstinence (from food, drink, and sex) for three days, as in Ramadhan. This is the expiation of your (breaking of) intentional oaths. (589)

If one is to break an oath, then the direct consequence for this is to ?observe abstinence? (no sex no food).
Or for expiation, feed some poor at a cost equal to the cost of the animal. If someone has no means to do that, then Abstinence (for three days as in Ramadhan. (Three days of Abstinence from food, drink, and sex, would equal feeding ten poor persons. 589). God has pardoned past violations. An appropriate court shall punish those who persist in violating this law. God is Almighty, Able to requite. (595)

It is further classified in this verse, that an individual will be punished for the offense, however repeat offenses be dealt by the judiciary of the state.

If a person is present at the Convention but cannot afford to contribute, he should exercise Abstinence for a total number of ten days, three days there and seven days after coming home. (2196)

Penalty terms have been provisioned ? if one is unable to contribute, he should exercise abstinence (no sex no food)!
It is not conceivable that a believer will slay another believer unless it be by mistake. If one kills a believer by mistake, there is the duty of freeing a believing person from bondage; may it be slavery, extreme poverty, crushing debt or oppression (please refer to the Ayat itself for more criterion) For those who find this settlement beyond their means, two consecutive months of Abstinence, as in the month of Ramadhan, are ordained by way of repentance from God. (492) This is a mind-blowing assertion; one who commits manslaughter is given an extreme light sentence of ?Abstinence? (no sex no food) for two months. Nevertheless, a sentence would indicate an act of punishment due to an offense committed.

The above verse is not stating, one must avoid killing / manslaughter, but providing details of capital punishment of ?Saum? for two months.

For arguments sake, let?s take ?Saum? to be abstinence from sex and food. It is not common for prisoners / inmates to have intimate encounters, would this create self-discipline or enrage the inmate, causing psychological pressure upon the individual?

The fact remains; the manner in which the above ayat is translated suggests that ?Saum? is a punishment.those of you who have made senseless declarations about their wives (583) let him observe daytime Abstinence (from food, drink and sex as in the month of Ramadhan) for two consecutive months before the couple may intimately touch each other. (584)

Again, it is noted, that if you do wrongful acts, you will receive a penalty. Just to provoke thought amongst the readers ? and going by just the translation, many men make terrible assertions about their wives, and vice versa, why is this commandment only for men? Does this mean those who do not have self discipline have the potential to commit murder, break oaths, and bad-mouth their spouses?

The state determines disciplinary actions and ensures the offender is charged in a just manner receiving a deserved punishment. The state takes responsibility for the rehabilitation for the offender, not only imposing restrictions but providing a program of support to ensure repeat offences are not committed. An individual who commits such a crime, does so by choice, self-discipline (no sex no food) will not change that!

Abstinence is better for you, if you only knew. (2184?)

If ?Saum? is such a blessing, why in the above Ayats is it portrayed as a punishment?
Dr Qamar Zaman has not stated that ?Saum? is a punishment. He has pointed out that the traditional interpretation of ?Saum? is conveyed as a punishment!

**ONE Self-discipline for failing to help the Hajj congregation (2196).

If one is unable to afford to contribute to hajj, is self discipline required? How much abstinence (no sex no food) should the victims of the flood in Pakistan / poor people in the world, how much abstinence (no sex no food) should they practice in order to develop self-discipline ? obviously they are unable to contribute, so are they pardoned?

**TWO Self-discipline for unintended murder (492).

Having lack of self-discipline, how likely is it to lead to murder? As stated above, being unable to contribute to hajj and murder require the same level of self-discipline?

Why is a poor person who is unable to contribute to hajj required to have self- discipline, this is also adopted for the murderer, instead of punishment or rehabilitation? The psychological state of a murderer cannot be the same as a poor person. Here the Quran is definitely conveying a deeper message.

**THREE Self-discipline for vain utterances of oaths (589)

Again, the same self-discipline is required for vain utterance of oaths? Can vain utterance of oath be placed in the same category as murder?

**FOUR Self-discipline for hunting during Hajj (595)
A very different type of act, but the same notion of ?Saum? (no sex no food) which should lead to self-discipline? How can refraining from having sex or food change the psychological state of the offenders / law violators?
If the inmates of prisons in the UK and the US were to perform ?Saum? (no sex no food) for 30 days, would they gain self-discipline?

**FIVE Self-discipline for vain utterances about wives (582-4)

I don?t think any wife would have sex with her husband if he bad-mouthed her anyway, neither would she cook for him, either way, he would be in a constant state of abstinence (no sex no food).
One must be in a certain psychological state of mind to commit such acts, which are on different levels; you claim all this can be treated by refraining from sex and food?

The west who have the highest standard of rehabilitation programs missed out the greatest method given by the Quran, no sex no food? And this of course would result in no murders, no vain utterance about wives, no vain utterance of oaths, and everyone would be able to afford to contribute to hajj?.?

All of the above offenses were committed because of lack of self-discipline?

In these cases ?Saum? is not self-discipline (no sex no food), but a rehabilitation program which is required to treat the psychological state of mind of the law breakers, their intention which initiates the action must stop immediately. For example, if an individual wanted to loose weight, one would hire a personal trainer. The personal trainer would advise you to stop certain types of foods immediately.

Whether dietary or physical exercise, one would then start the program given by him / her. However, the personal trainer would not give the same training program to a body builder, nor would it be the same for a gymnast.

                                          Quoting dr Qamar

                                          11of sura 49 ,

This verse has always been misinterpreted without any exception . how can word " " be translated as a male person .
In this verse the word " ? means a strong nation , in this verse word " ? is from which has the meaning of being strong " " " the one who has some footing . the meaning of " " is self explanatory i.e. people who have no footing and proverb used here for " "is " " although here in this verse " " means people who have no footing as opposed to people who are called " " .

QAUM is a mixture of both males and females, still the PRONOUN used is that of Male ? MASCULINE. So, a masculine pronoun can include a group of both males and females and the use of respective pronouon will be governed by the form and nature of the Noun that has been used in the beginning of the sentence. (QAUM - Masculine)

Likewise, NISAA is again a QAUM, though a weaker one, consisting of both males and females. Still a FEMININE PRONOUN can be used for this society of mixed people. Why? Because the NOUN used here is taken, under the rules, as feminine (NISAA).

For all of you who may still be searching, I have one small hint from Allama Pervaiz? Tabweeb ul Quran. Kindly check page No.1048, and go downwards under Chapter ?

6 th line. It reads as under -

                                          • ? ---

We can now be sure that Allama Pervaiz? research had been successful and he had found out the Root meaning of the word NISAA. Though the learned Scholar calls it MAJAZI MA?ANI, but the fact remains that he was well aware of this meaning and could use it with confidence and authority. If he could find the Root meanings, we can also do so with some more effort. I hope this settles the issue of NISAA.
