Reasons why there can't be two Gods
-
You're both misunderstanding. I gave a reason as to why there cannot be more then one God, I'm not asking you to give me a reason as to why there can't be more then one and I'm not saying there is more then one.
-
Well, any argument as to why there cannot be more than one "God" always boils down to that one quranic verse explaining why in the end.
-
He doesn't.
Okay, then go ahead with your type of deen.
-
Salama and Peace on you!
The only exact definition of God is; God is God..
Everything starts with The Creator.
Allah is The Creator of everything, and with Him there is no other creator.
So, when there is no other Creator, then how can there be "another" or "more than one" God???That is why Allah is The Only Ilah.
Because there is only One Creator.
Because there is only One Sustainer.
Because there is only One Protector.
Because there is only One Helper.
Because there is only One Wali.
Because there is only One Maula.
Because there is only One Guide.
Because there is only One Teacher who teachers His Quran.Allah is One, because He is The Only Creator, Who owns all His Creation. All His Creation is His Property.
Allah creates from non-existance. He does not need raw material to create something. This is Allah. And there is no example of Him.
-
Okay, then go ahead with your type of deen.
That's your way of saying " sorry, I have no proof "
-
1753 And say to My servants (that) they speak that which is best; surely the Shaitan sows dissensions among them; surely the Shaitan is an open enemy to man.
-
That's supposed to mean... what exactly? Best can mean telling the truth as far as I'm aware of.

Salam,
I misunderstood at first, but in the later post, I did not misunderstand, I simply shared my point of view.

Peace,
That's supposed to mean... what exactly? Best can mean telling the truth as far as I'm aware of.
Agreed. Fair enough.
Also Paradox, 32 states ALLAH is ever living, self subsisting. Life/consciousness comes before creation. Consciousness is absolute. Thanks
-
Yes. I was actually thinking of posting that verse, but didn`t. God guided you to it, anyway. Alhamdulillah.
-
Indeed al-quran does the best job, so succint, so eloquent.
The absolutely living, the absolute truth, the self subsisting.
All the names are the same one. So the names of ALLAH are the names of life/consciousness/the living truth/that which cannot be denied or overpowered.
My original contention was that biological life is not the aim. The ever living transcends the life/death that we know, it is subject to neither, it is not the substance or the spirit which can perish but the life itself. The truly living is beyond our comprehension, there is no likeness to it. The consciousness fully encompasses all biological life, only the consciousness can truly know itself entirely and this it already does. As a human, one can only hope to open one's heart to the music of the spheres.

Shalom Aleikhom,
I do not think God is one or God is many. In my opinion God cannot be ruled by mathematics because through that we are just setting rules for God. God isn't one yet he is the one.
Salam to Earth group

If there were in them (the heavens and the earth) other gods beside God, there would have been chaos. Glory be to God; the Lord with absolute authority. He is high above their claims.
When the laws of physics and space and time come ripping apart and the universe falls apart, it will mean one of two things.
- It's judgment day
- There really is more than one God
But of course, it will mean judgment day. If those things were happening all the time it would mean more than one God, but they aren't, proving one God.

The moment you imagine or discuss 'more than one god'... you are not even remotely discussing that which is called Allah. I like what MSW said. I say that 'That which is called Allah' cannot be thought of in any quantifying or shaping terms... like 'one', at least in terms of one as opposed to two or many. You could think of it as 'the only', but in the end we cannot encompass Allah with our feeble minds. What we can do is to think what Allah is not. We should not associate anything with Allah... and I think that goes for descriptions as well... apart from the good qualities and beautiful names told about in the quran.
I fear my words don't convey properly what I'm thinking... brickwall

The moment you imagine or discuss 'more than one god'... you are not even remotely discussing that which is called Allah. I like what MSW said. I like this too, but I acknowledge my belief in monotheism (One God) is totally dependent on my belief that the Quran is God's word. Just wondering - does the Arabic Quran use the term "One" God.
Also some thoughts regarding the following statements
OPF Because there is one reality, there cannot be two realities.Anyone who has studied Sociology or even moved between widely different cultures will understand that reality is socially constructed and in fact multiple realities actually exist. People who grow up in round houses actually see the world differently from those who grow up in square houses. A person raised in a tribal culture in the Amazon jungle will have a different view of reality from a person raised in the concrete jungle of New York City. Things that we take for granted and perceive to be normal or natural and unchangeable are not necessarily so when viewed from a totally different perspective within the totality of an entirely different world view. Even sub-cultures each have their own realities. Drugs and alcohol also create different realities especially hallucegenic drugs.
The Social Construction of Reality is a book about the sociology of knowledge written by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann and published in 1966. The central concept is that persons and groups interacting in a social system form, over time, concepts or mental representations of each other's actions, and that these concepts eventually become habituated into reciprocal roles played by the actors in relation to each other. When these roles are made available to other members of society to enter into and play out, the reciprocal interactions are said to be institutionalised. In the process of this institutionalisation, meaning is embedded in society. Knowledge and people's conception (and belief) of what reality is becomes embedded in the institutional fabric of society. Reality is therefore said to be socially constructed.
OPF - Because the truth is one truth, that which truly exists, the sure clear truth; two things in opposition cannot be true at once.
Similarly to the above, there can be many truths as any traffic policeman will tell you - witnesses to the same accident can give the exact truth as they see it and all give different accounts of what occurred. My truth is my truth and yours is yours but that doesn't mean one of us is wrong. Research shows that the reality we perceive is influenced by and filtered through the lens of our previous experience, and as we all have different experiences we interepret what is happening differently - so there can be many truths.Truth Behind It - We are our Lord's slaves A slave always have one Master.
I don't understand why you think slave/servan always has only one master - in my experience a servant / slave can have several Masters and a Mistress too! Slaves and servants can be shared by several owners/ employers.Dares Bears - If there were in them (the heavens and the earth) other gods beside God, there would have been chaos.
Why do you think there would be chaos? How about revolving leadership, co-leadership and other similar decision making structures that work very well (at least in groups that I have participated in) when there is more than one creator/leader/boss/ powerful person. Why couldn't there have been several or many Gods / Goddesses that shared the power of creation, each being omnipotent in their own specific domain of creation? Can't several brilliant artists work on the one mural and produce a joint masterpiece? Please can you explain further why you think having more than one creator / power leads to chaos.

confused Please can someone email me and tell me how to post a previous post that I am replying to.
Salam Lena,

As for the Arabic Quran mentioning One God
"O my fellow inmates, are various lords better, or God, the One, the Omniscient?" (1239)

Peace Lena, all
Let's suppose that there are many gods; each of these gods has his own creation.
There are 2 scenarios
1- There is enough space to contain all these gods and their creations, so they don't have to interact or enter in competition, so each god can express his complete authority over his own creation.
But then we have to consider that the creator of this space (where these gods evolve) is like a supergod compared to these gods, he is much more powerful that he is able to create a space to contain all these gods/creations.
These gods then cannot be considered as gods anymore, because they don't have full control, and are only allowed to exist by the power the real god the creator of all.2- These gods co-exist and share the same space for their creations; none of them can have full control all the time without it creating chaos as each one would want to be all powerfull all the time, or in the case of co-management it will nullify/suspend their super attributes at least for sometime; they are not gods anymore.
furthermore, the creation of the space in which these gods evolve bring us again to the implication of the existence of a god much more powerful who can create a space to contain all these gods and their powers. We come always to the conclusion that there must be only one supreme creator.
