My atheist friend asked me a question.

God in quran emphasize his oneness a lot, so it means that its very important to believe in 'one God' but Why is believing in one God anyhow better then believing in several Gods?

And what does it mean to believe in 'One God' how does one believe in 'One God'?

That thing is misunderstood. What is important is to believe that no god exists, only Allah

373 The reciters( and deliverers) of the message.?

        ( What message?)

374 Your god is only ONE? !

( Main message from all prophets/ messengers Repent, believe and trust in GOD ALONE!)

375 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything between them??

Everything else is HIS creation. HE requires total loyalty and submission from all HIS creations. No rebellion. HE is the only Lord, King,...The only One capable of running HIS kingdom, otherwise there will be chaos and corruption in HIS kingdom.

No, the accurate version of the message would be " Do not believe in a god, he does not exist, There is no god, there is only Allah. If you're religious you will create hell on Earth " which is what happened

And what does it mean to believe in 'One God' how does one believe in 'One God'?

            1. Because the society in which messages being recorded in the Quran think that there are many deities where each control a part of the universe (desert god, sky god, sun god, moon god, penis god, vagina god etc..) and each god / deity have their own set of 'specialist' or 'consultant' or 'broker' or 'sales agent' or 'caretaker' also known as Priest who are well versed in (complex) rites and regulation to please specific god or deity.
Monotheism will not exist when there's no Polytheism.

            2. Within such 'reality construct' a guy presumably called Muhammad came and basically telling them that all of those gods / deities are merely BS. He told them; you're being fooled by a bunch of Priest. Those figure of god / deity itself are being authored and created by the Priest! Those priests wanted to earn an easy living through your donation and gain power through your stupidity.

            3. Muhammad continues with an explanation that the whole element of universe works in unified harmony which mandates all elements are controlled by a party, a power, an entity, a lord, a king, a god for the sake of discussion let's call him / it "The God".. (Al-Illah)

            4. Muhammad again continue telling them to reach "The God" you don't need any priest / imam / mullah/ habib. He's your maintainer/cherisher (Rabb) He's here, there, everywhere. He's all knowing he know you better than you know yourselves. He'll answer the call to those who call.. give explanation to those who pondered..

            5. Muhammad again continue to explain the whole universe / "The God" has set a certain commandment/recommendation if you want to live a good life. You have the option to disregard those recommendations but you'll suffer the consequences. And he continues to explain what those are..

            6. Muhammad again continue to explain that this universe in which we're living in have a certain beginning thus it will have a certain end. Although none other than "The God" know when it will be. Yet after such event you all will be 'resurrected' to face the judgement based on your deed (deed and not religion/sect) that you've done during your lifetime.

            Salam / Peace

Because, simply that the One is the source of everything.
Worshiping anything but the One would be worshiping some product of Creation.
              Pure logic.

Allah does not mean " The God "

it means who is not god or Not God

Allah is the perfect anti name
it is neither a name nor not a name

The word Allah does not exist in 373-5. Your personal theology and opinions have no bearing on the truth of the actual verses of Quran. I would ask you to post the verses for your opinions above but we already know you can't. Simply claiming, "everything I don't like is wrong and I don't have to provide evidence from Quran!" doesn't change the facts.

Here for you is 374 Inna ilahakum lawahidun "Your god is indeed One."

Also, Allah calls Himself a god in the Quran below as well. No matter how much you don't want it to be so, the Quran says what it says.

And He is the One who is a god in the heaven and a god on earth. And He is the Wise, the Knowledgeable. (4384)
Your god is Allah; whom there is no god but He. His knowledge encompasses all things. (209
And Allah said "Do not take-up two gods, there is only One god, so it is Me that you shall reverence." (1651)

A lot of people have posted scripture in response, and it is absolutely right that they did so. So instead I'll post what I inferred from the scripture with my own reasoning.

I believe it's important to believe in one God, because to do otherwise is the ultimate disrespect. Allah has done everything for you, entirely for your own benefit -- and in return he only asks that you be good to him, be good to others, and be good to yourself -- things, that we as human beings should be doing anyway.

So, to attribute the aspects of the unseen to other than God is to discredit God. He reminds and reminds and reminds, subtly or clearly, and yet others would like to say 'such and such God did this for me.' a nonexistant being, the creation of someone else's mind.

Imagine if you will that you never met your mother in person. She lived so far away that you could not see her, yet every morning a package arrived with your clothes washed and pressed, money to support yourself, and a helper arrived with that package to cook your meals, give you advice, and generally aid you throughout your days.

You figure it's an old friend of yours that's doing it, so you attribute it to him. You talk with your neighbours, and a few of them tell you 'It's your mother sending those packages and hiring that assistant. She told me before she left you.' In the face of that, you decide to not bother to connect the dots and still attribute this help to your old friend.

It's like that, but on a much larger scale. Allah is literally the reason you live and die, so I can understand to an extent why he would simply ask to be recognised for his works.

The most simple answer is it's The Truth.

Believing in idols (other nonexistent, powerless, "gods&quot can only lead you astray from God with dire eternal consequences.

Allah does not mean " The God "
it means who is not god or Not God
Allah is the perfect anti name
it is neither a name nor not a name

If your hypothesis is true.. IN arabic that will be Lam-Illah.. (Not Illah, Not God or not made God (verb) )

Changed and corrupted versions of Quran are worth nothing sorry

Now you go from "traditionalist translations" to changed and corrupted versions of Quran? Are you saying THE Quran has been changed and corrupted? Below is the Arabic and trasliterated Arabic. Do your OWN study and see for yourself or you can follow Abdun Nur. It's your choice.

Innama ilahukumu Allahu allathee la ilaha illa huwa wasiAAa kulla shayin AAilman (209
Your god is Allah; whom there is no god but He. His knowledge encompasses all things.

Waqala Allahu la tattakhithoo ilahayni ithnayni innama huwa ilahun wahidun faiyyaya fairhabooni (1651)
And Allah said "Do not take-up two gods, there is only One god, so it is Me that you shall reverence."

Wahuwa allathee fee alssamai ilahun wafee alardi ilahun wahuwa alhakeemu alAAaleemu (4384)
And He is the One who is a god in the heaven and a god on earth. And He is the Wise, the Knowledgeable.

                                    Inna ilahakum lawahidun (374)
                                    "Your god is indeed One."

It's the same. Except that besides translations, the Quran you follow is also CHANGED. That is a 100% fact

Again, repeat the same verses as many times as you want, it won't prove anything when you don't have the right translations.

Really? Then why does nobody else disagree with Allathee Laa Illah ( might have made a small mistake here ) meaning Who is not god?

My atheist friend asked me a question.

God in quran emphasize his oneness a lot, so it means that its very important to believe in 'one God' but Why is believing in one God anyhow better then believing in several Gods?

And what does it mean to believe in 'One God' how does one believe in 'One God'?

Shirk is a mockery. Just look at some of the pagan religions and their mythology and theology. Their stories about the gods and creation. Just read some of the creation stories.
