Polygamy - Time to settle the issue
-
Peace Released,
I know, but I just worry that this topic mind just end up like most of the others; without an answer.
-
Peace Fallen Angel,
Well, I think that there are two conclusions, from what we've gathered in this thread
-
Ours at the moment Polygamy is sanctioned only within the context of protecting and supporting the interests of the orphans'.
-
The alternative Polygamy is not sanctioned at all and verse 4.3 has NOTHING to do with polygamy.
So, at least we've narrowed it down to two.
Now, the neighboring discussion is of great value, because it will determine on which side of the fence people wish to be on. Both sides are bringing forth their proofs, and I think that only will our answer to 4.3 be answered, but other issues may also be put to rest. Number 2 is being discussed at great length there. If we can rule out Number 2, then we'll be most likely back at Number 1, unless someone else brings forth another arguement specifically geared toward 4.3.
Noon and Maha are no longer discussing here, and I have not heard back from Dawn. So, let's see what happens.
We may not end up with a definite answer, but we may end up with a majority concensus of some sort.

Peace Release,
I am still here, regarding all the discussions on the threads covering this issue. I will chip in when something strikes me. At the moment I am still getting my head around the grammar and my view still holds that the word being translated as 'marry' means something else, such as, 'take care of'. I still believe if it means 'marry' then there are contradictions in the Koran - which cannot happen.

Peace Dawn,
The thing is, we need solid proof for this. No where, in Classical Dictionaries, and even Modern Dictionaries, that I've come across, does the word Nikah mean anything but Marry or Sex
