      Hi Saq,

Does it need reconciled? I mean where is evolution in conflict with the Quran? It is in conflict with the creation stories in the Torah/Bible, but the only issue that I know that Islam may have is whether or not we all came from Adam.

My personal opinion is Allah guides the evolution path.

      Just my crazy thoughts...

        w/salaam,

        http//misconceptions-about-islam.com/woman-created-from-rib-adam.htm

Creation of mankind is further discussed in the following verses . The sequence of events resembles an evolutionary process, but with God as the initiator and sustainer, with mankind being given unique qualities at a point in time when ready.

You may find it interesting to note it was common for early Muslim scientists/philosophers to accept an evolutionary-type process, e.g. http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muqaddimah

        That was way before Darwin.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

          Salam all,

I think Qu'ran 2919-20 speaks about evolution. "Travel the land and observe how He began the creation."

Did not Darwin do EXACTLY that? Darwin traveled the land and found similarities in fossils, plant life, etc and postulated a theory based on those finding.

Not saying that Darwin is some sort of righteous person, but his findings, if looked at from a Qu'ranic interpretation, could indicate some form of evolutionary shaping on life that was initiated by a Designer.

              Chapter 41 as explained by Allama Parwez;

O humanity! adhere to the Laws of your Sustainer Who initiated your creation with a single life-cell (6/99, 39/6) which split into two parts ? one male and the other female ? and through them spread so many men and women in the world.

              http//www.tolueislam.org/Parwez/expo/expo_004.htm

699 It is He who has created you out of a single life-cell (4/1). In the process of evolution, life pauses for a while until it acquires the capacity to reach a higher plane to which it is entrusted for further development. Thus We have made Our plans clear to those who are thoughtful.

Could you provide reference to these claims? I don't find any of these in the Qu'ran. Also please be wary of Christian/Judaic views of the creation that are currently influencing many muslim philosophy. ;D

                    Thanks!

Ofcourse ill try and see, but for example the hadith about adam being 60 cubits tall, what about that?
Narrated Abu Huraira The Prophet said, "Allah created Adam, making him 60 cubits tall. When He created him, He said to him, "Go and greet that group of angels, and listen to their reply, for it will be your greeting (salutation) and the greeting (salutations of your offspring." So, Adam said (to the angels), As-Salamu Alaikum (i.e. Peace be upon you). The angels said, "As-salamu Alaika wa Rahmatu-l-lahi" (i.e. Peace and Allah's Mercy be upon you). Thus the angels added to Adam's salutation the expression, 'Wa Rahmatu-l-lahi,' Any person who will enter Paradise will resemble Adam (in appearance and figure). People have been decreasing in stature since Adam's creation.
                      Thank you!
And im currently on my iphone and its almost out of juice and i cant get on a computer atm, when i get time ill find those , i truly appreciate the help!

So he thought we are all clones? We are all the result of incest? Come on! Every child knows that's impossible.

I don't think he meant it like that at all.... as you imply, it would be madness.
Rather it would make more sense to understand his words as saying that things "began" with some organic cellular life form, which developed into some form that had two versions, i.e. male and female... and then things went on on that track. It doesn't necessarily mean ONE male and ONE female... rather it would mean ONE male FORM, and ONE female FORM... talking about the gender types and not individuals.

I mean, wouldn't staunch evolutionists take it like this also?.. that things started of with some single cellular organism.... then things evolved and eventually there were life forms having genders.

I think it is wise to understand that words so that they make sense with scientific findings, unless we are out to disprove the quran not matter what the facts or truth. Like I say, one truth thing should not contradict another truth thing, how could they, unless one or both is/are false or misunderstood?

O humanity! adhere to the Laws of your Sustainer Who initiated your creation with a single life-cell (6/99, 39/6) which split into two parts ? one male and the other female ? and through them spread so many men and women in the world.

                              Hi Everyone,

I agree with Zulf. I am not really seeing the problem with Evolution and the Quran. The only problems are fabricated by one side or the other. But people want controversy.

If it's in the Qur'an, then I accept it and try to learn more about it. 2920 Say, "Roam the earth and observe how the creation was initiated. Then God will establish the final design. God is capable of all things."

Hi Saq,

Not all of us reject all of the Hadith. This forum has people who reject all hadith to those who accept almost all Hadith. Most of us are somewhere in the middle. What we choose to do is use our minds to understand what is in the Quran and how Allah wants us to live our lives. It doesn't mean that all of us don't consider the Hadith. We just don't treat it as mandatory.

To me the Hadith shows how others have thought about these questions and how they arrived at conclusions. It doesn't mean that I have to use the same logic. Nor does it mean that I have to arrive at the same conclusion. I want to free my mind (free-minds.org) so that I can use my intellect to get closer to Allah. Not simply do what some guy 1000 years ago said. His telling me what to do doesn't necessarily get me closer to Allah. Getting close to Allah with your intellect is one of many approaches you can use.

Also for your information 60 cubits is about 120 feet or around 40 meters tall. That is really really really tall. I haven't seen anyone that tall.

                                          Just my crazy thoughts...
