Sure we can do merry making during holidays, but we should not celebrate them thinking we are going to earn credits in heaven.

      Salaam Tony,

but we should not celebrate them thinking we are going to earn credits in heaven.

Why not!? You can be sure that for everything good you do you will earn hasanat, whether that thing was detailed in the Quran or not.
And sometimes I, personally, would do things not because I like doing them but because I know that they will earn me hasanat, so what is wrong with that!?

        Peace Taj,

Do you not ever gather with all your relatives!? Do you not ever miss them!? Do you not ever want to know their news and the news of their children and their elderly? Do you not ever want to share with them their hopes and their fears? Do you not ever wish them the best and show them your love and support!? Do you not ever give/receive gifts!? How do you deal with your roots, your womb/blood connections!? How can you deal with all the feelings and emotions you have for them!? Doesn't closeness appeal to you!?
Do you, at all, smile!? A cheerful/open/kind face is one great charity that costs practically nothing )

Absolutely, but almost all my ties with my family members, relatives and even some of my good old firends have been cut off, if not totally. This is mainly because of "religious reasons" (leaving their community in which I was born in - the worst of the so-called Muslim kind) and somewhat "family matters". All I have is my wife and kids, and a couple of outside friends whom I am very seldom in touch with.

On the contrary, Eid is not the only time when one meets/visits their family members, relatives or friends just to be in touch or to get together. That is far-fetched and is simply based on "religious grounds", I beleive.

          Peace be upon you all,

          Pain < PEACE > Pleasure

We are the balanced community, so we should strive to be have a peaceful state of mind. TOO MUCH of anything other than peace is not beneficial. So I do understand what Doctor is saying, but we have to also keep in mind that we cannot prohibit what the God has not prohibited.

Regarding "Eid", this reading(quran) speaks nothing about it, so why celebrate a day connected with a sectarian ritual?

Regarding seeing family and friends, I am sure we can develop our own holiday once we understand the true system. Other than that, one should not set aside only one day in which to see your family and friends, that is a shame.

            Peace All,

The fact is, many of us come from a background where "Eid" is celebrated as a holiday that is only for the "Muslims." roll Many of us have grown up with this, especially in the West as the "Muslim" alternative to Christmas. Maybe that's why it was started in the first place (though I don't have facts to back that up). Now I always grew up thinking that Christmas was such a bad thing, and if you took part in any festivities you were no longer "Muslim" (nevermind that half of my family is Christian). So maybe Eid and other holidays aren't sanctioned by God. So what? Does it really matter if you decide to celebrate or not, so long as you know this. Regardless of how the holiday started, holidays are supposed to be a time of joy, peace and blessings, because although we try, it just isn't like this everyday.

              Peace be upon you,

Does it really matter if you decide to celebrate or not

The God tells us to reflect on the merging of the day and night. Ity is a GRADUAL transformation which most miss until it gets dark and they say" WOW, it sure got dark fast!

There is another reminder to be mindful of the WOMBS that bore you.

What we are to be doing is developing a CULTURE that will grow children and adults who are still children spiritually into adults(inner and outer).

What do we add to the CULTURE by celebrating Jesus Birthday? What if the major holiday where we all lived was Satan's Birthday, would we celebrate that just to be with friends and family and be joyful? Lets suppose that the reason Satans birthday started to be celebrated was no longer valid, even still , would we celebrate SATANS birthday holiday?

The WOMBS that bore us are our CULTURE that feeds us the visions that grow us, gradually, like the merging of day and night. What vision do we get from the righteous joining the hypocrites and rejectors in celebration of THIER PHILOSOPHY? How does that "grow" us?

I am not saying we should walk around that say looking angry, no, we should always be at peace, we can hold a smile, but we must remain firm on our principles of truth and the God say s NEVER concel the truth while you know, or mix the truth with falsehood.

There is a difference in going to see your family those days, but singing christmas carols and giving cards etc , that is celebrating.

How does self-righteously separating yourself from from others "grow" us? It does nothing to build understanding and acceptance of differences. All that does is make people think you're too good for them.

                  Where did I say that?

It does nothing to build understanding and acceptance of differences. All that does is make people think you're too good for them.

yes, so I ask again, where did I say seperate yourself from people?

What grows us is TRUTH, so I ask you again, if Satans Birthday was a popular holiday amongst your families and friends, would you celebrate with them? And once you answer that, ask yourself what kind of holiday "the birth of G-d's PHYSICAL son" is, you will find that the foundation of that is SATANIC(rebellious to the Truth).

Let me ask you this, do you "self righteously" seperate yourself from "them" when you are in the food line, and they are ordering Pork and all kinds of food that is not good? Why not join in with them at the food line. Why not join the Homosexuals in thier misguidance to promote unity. Do you see the error in that?

                    As'Salaam,

I wake up each morning open my eyes, smile and say, "Alhamdulillah!" Then I celebrate the day by striving to share this gift of life Allah has bestowed upon me with others. I do not practice Islam out of a fear of Allah, but instead because of my love of Allah. If Allah is Ir'Rahman Ir'Rahim then why should we fear Hu? Maybe we should fear our ego... our sense of a "separate" self that often causes us to judge each other because we see "difference" instead of Oneness. Doesn't the Qur'an say that if Allah wanted us all to be the same Hu would have made us so?

                    Ma'Salaam,

Maybe you could show me the verse that says that, especially since we can find the verses on homosexuality and eating the flesh of swine. I thought we weren't supposed to forbid that which God has not forbid.

The same petty puritanical traits that are found amongst certain orthodox muslims are found in the Freeminds community....if they had their way we could not even say ''hello'' to each other...if you did maybe the next question would be where in the Quran does it say to say ''hello'' when greeting an associate? lol lol lol

                          Peace,
I dont think Idolfree means all celebrations are prohibited, but those that practice shirk are (let me know if I've misinterpreted you bro). Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Eid ul fitr a celebration that commits shirk? Don't people celebrate eid ul fitr because thats what they believe God commanded? What about all those prayer rituals that are practiced, don't they believe those were all sanctioned by God? If they do believe all this is sanctioned by God I would call it idolworship, and thus I do not believe we should be taking part in such activities. I would have to say the same goes for Christmas because of the fact that Christians claim it is the Birthday of Jesus (or to them the son of God), practicing a celebration like this to me is Idolworship. Even if we don't really believe in these celebrations but simply wish to participate then aren't we condoning such activities? I would say celebrations that dont practice idolworship would be alright to participate in.

                          Peace

                            Salam all,

I think that we have to be very careful labelling people as Idolworshippers. The Qur'an says that the Idol worshippers are the ones that worship another GOD. Can someone explain to me how celebrating Eid is worshipping of another GOD? It may be wrong, it may be an extra -not asked for- prayer. However, I am not able to see it as idolworship.

I think that Idolworship is a word that should be reserved to the time when we are sure- beyond any doubt- of what we say. It is a big word. It is intimidating. It is a fundamentalist idea and very intolerant. Lastly, accusing people without enough proof is a sin in the eye of GOD.

                            Hussein

I am confused. But I do agree with what Omari said. What is prohibited in Quran should be prohibited - not what is not mentioned. As we all agree, Quran is detailed and complete. Allah will not leave something that is important out of Quran.

                                Dear All

                                Celebrations not allowed in Quran

005.114 Said Jesus the son of Mary "O Allah our Lord! Send us from heaven a table set (with viands), that there may be for us - for the first and the last of us - a solemn festival and a sign from thee; and provide for our sustenance, for thou art the best Sustainer (of our needs)."

In my opinion celebrations is not againts the Quran since there is no direct order to reject them.
But to me Eid is nothing religious. It is just a time for me to gather with my family and frens.

The situation in the Islamic countries cannot be so bad on men. They can pick themselves up and just leave! For the women, it is a real tragedy! cry
I have a cousin who left to live abroad and I can't even bring her name up! I miss her so, so much but I know nothing about her. We use to be very close when we were little, along with the other children in the family, but now her space is empty, and I can't hold my tears every time her image comes to my mind cry

On the contrary, Eid is not the only time when one meets/visits their family members, relatives or friends just to be in touch or to get together. That is far-fetched and is simply based on "religious grounds", I believe.

We do meet each other all during the year, of course, moving around from one house to another. That is the norm. But in big occasion, i.e. weddings, funerals, celebrating for a graduation, etc..and of course the Eid anniversary, the whole family would gather in one place, under one roof. For the Eid, it would usually be the big grandfather's. That makes it much easier on everybody to meet everybody else, and save us the time spent on the road )
But there are still some few houses that we still have to visit, because there are some elderly who are too old to leave their place and join the rest, so we would visit them also, usually before the Eid lunch time.

But why should people get together at Eid time in particular, and prepare a huge feast and give gifts, etc? Maybe because the energy is very high at this particular time, after going through the fasting and the big number of Ssalawatt in Ramadhan which kept everybody occupied and busy away from spending much time with others. So people would be so eager to meet each other again and congratulate each other for their patience and perseverance. So the level of energy is really high and very emotional at that special time of the year.
In Eid Al Adha, the celebration energy is less, because almost everybody would be in Hajj, away from their homes, and when they come back, they would be very exhausted, so we, the ones who didn't go to Hajj would visit them separately, every one in his/her own house and the atmosphere would be quite different, more holy than jolly! roll
Well, that is my humble analysis!

                                  Taj

I do not agree to no "joy and pleasure" but I do understand that TOO MUCH joy and pleasure makes the physical body react in the same way as fear does. It is a PUMPED UP state and is not meant to be sustained for long periods of time.

Maybe you could show me the verse that says that, especially since we can find the verses on homosexuality and eating the flesh of swine. I thought we weren't supposed to forbid that which God has not forbid.

So let me get this right, you made an accusation above, stating that I agree with no celebrations, then you go on to build upon that accusation, which is actually a false accusation, is that right? I never said I disagree with celebrations, I only said I understand the reasoning, but that the Doctor is extending it too far. In fact, let me copy and paste my words that I said above since you did not comprehend them the first time.

"So I do understand what Doctor is saying, but we have to also keep in mind that we cannot prohibit what the God has not prohibited."

(2143) Thus, have We made of you an community justly balanced...

                                      Peace be upon you Peace,

I dont think Idolfree means all celebrations are prohibited, but those that practice shirk are (let me know if I've misinterpreted you bro).

Yes, you are correct. In addition, even those celebrations for righteouss concepts should be PEACEFUL events, not a lot of OVER EXCITEMENT, because of the effects it has on us. Our RULING "emotion" should be PEACE.

PEACE be upon you all. wink

                                        Peace be upon you Tariqsayed,

I am confused. But I do agree with what Omari said. What is prohibited in Quran should be prohibited - not what is not mentioned. As we all agree, Quran is detailed and complete. Allah will not leave something that is important out of Quran.

The God prohibited following other than Him, isn't that enough of a prohibition NOT TO engage in celebrations of falsehood?

                                          Peace be upon you Loli,

005.114 Said Jesus the son of Mary "O Allah our Lord! Send us from heaven a table set (with viands), that there may be for us - for the first and the last of us - a solemn festival and a sign from thee; and provide for our sustenance, for thou art the best Sustainer (of our needs)."

The part that is translated above , I believe, should be feast, not festival.

But again, I am not against celebrating, only celebrating a celebratin dedicated to other than the One God.

I think for manyof us to understand this in terms of Eid, we will have to dispell the misconception of "ramadhan", but the issue of Christmas, I really cant believe this even needs explanation.
