Wakas,
Al-Faqeeh Al-Sawaafy makes your point but with more clarification in this video. He is an Ibadhi Shaykh. Unfortunately it looks like he gets cut off. I don't know why. I contacted him for further clarification. He makes the point of two Salaat before the Mi'raaj in between minutes 21 and 23. It is all in Classical Arabic. I hope you can understand it.

Anwar,
I watched it. Basically says according to the traditional order of Quran revelation there are verses that mention "salat" prior to Chapter 17 (alleged isra & miraj), hence "salat" must have been done. And there was variance in practice which became fixed later.

https//www.scribd.com/doc/37518694/Uri-Rubin-Morning-and-Evening-Prayers-in-early-Islam-by-muslimsAs I said before, it's interesting that even Traditional Muslim history recognises there was two salat daily initially.

so basically there are only two confirmed contact prayers,, salat al fajar and salat ul isha... and possible third one is hinting towards,, tajjad or asar optional... thats what all the articles means..
i think best strategy is to read two prayers and other two if u find a chance read anyone or both of them .. for extra sawab apart from duty... two are obligatory like eating two times compoulsury,,as a duty and having more diet is just advantage of getting strength,, or sawab can we understand all thhis like that...
peace.
and i want to ask who is this dr qamar uz zaman.. anybody tell me please..

Wakas,
I think it is more accurate to say that the point was that according to traditional knowledge about when the Israa'/Mi'raaj happened, and what verses are believed to have been revealed when and where, that Meccan verses were revealed before the Israa'Mi'raaj, which is when the last human oracle of God, Muhammad (saas), is believed to have been given the 5 daily ritual prayers. He continues the point by saying that there are Meccan verses that clearly state that the prophet Muhammad (saas) is supposed to be performing ritual prayer before the Israa'/Mi'raaj. The Faqeeh in the video has the scholars saying that this may have meant only the night prayer which was most Muslims believe was obligatory at first and then was made optional and/or that there were only two prayers a day being dawn and evening. As the faqeeh was starting to go into detail it seems that he was cut off. I do not know why because I really wanted to know the sources of his statements. He mentions Qaatadah, Muqaatil and others but I am not sure if these are the sources for the statements he makes because he was cut off. I was shocked to hear him mention this. It was VERY revealing! The reason I want to know the sources is because I want to know what kind of hadeeths these statements are based on, as they clearly are consistent with how I have understood what is in the Qur'an. If these are mutawaatir hadeeth even, and the hadeeth about the 5 prayers are not...those of us who believe in two daily ritual prayers clearly have a stronger position. As for the interpretations of an afternoon prayer (dhuhr itself is technically all of the times close to the apex of the sun including the first part of the afternoon and 'asr is the latter part of the afternoon and includes sundown linguistically), I think these prayers like the night prayer become options because they can be understood as possible times of ritual prayer but they are not explicit so they cannot be made obligatory. A simple Al-hamdulillah or Subhaanallah can fulfill what might be taken as commands for the afternoon and the time around noon in 3017-18, but a ritual salat can also be made during these times.

Wakas,
I have read the article. It is significant but its not very clear actually. That was my impression when I read it. I would much rather have such a clear admission from an Islamic source with its sources about there ONLY being two prayers before the Israa'. An early Islamic admission (like Ibn Kathir's although he gives no explanations) is much more powerful. What I see is a lot of confusion about what is subh and if it is different from fajr, and what is 'asr and how close an asr prayer can be made when it come to dhuhr. He does not mention that 'asr can mean sundown ('ishaa/'asheey). He then goes into voluntary prayers and when the fajr or 'asr prayers can actually be done, or are supposed to be prayed. I found much of the information to be irrelevant. Subh as fajr and 'asr as 'ishaa/'asheey is a strong enough connection Quranically and linguistically. The other prayers should have been dealt with separately. Again, I found the work to be a bit jumbled.
