Brother, The Sardar, I understand what you are trying to tell.
But, again, if Salat means "following closely" why do we need to wash our face, hands, feet, head, to "follow closely" )
And in that verse, it says very clearly that
WHEN YOU STAND FOR SALAT, wash your face, hands, head and feet.
And if we check some other verses, that do talk about bowing, prostrating. If SALAT means to "Follow closely" then why do we need to BOW AND PROSTRATE, wash face, hands head and feet?
I hope it makes sense.
To me, Rashad Khalifa, made sense in many cases, BUT again when it comes to prayer, he doesn't show any proof of from where he got Abraham's prayer.
-
Pray to Thank God for all that He has given us and to save myself from the Fire of Hell.
Interesting..
- What if you are free from the THREAT / FEAR of the Most Merciful will burn you and torture you for all eternity if you don't pray.. Will you still pray?
Next
2. Does the way you pray now meet your needs of "Thanking God for all that He has given you"?Isn't Rashad Khalifa, a messenger of God?
Is he?
We need to testify about him too?? -

peace armom,
Welcome to the forum.
So the word "Musalleen" doesn't mean pray?
I saw the video from Qur'an Centric, but that didn't make sense to me. He says "Pray" in the Qur'an means to follow the commandments like "Not drinking alcohol, not cheating, lying etc.."
BUT, my question is, if that is so, then how will you explain the following verse?
"O ye who believe! when ye prepare for prayer, wash your faces, and your hands to the elbows; Rub your heads; and your feet to the ankles. "
So if that doesn't mean to pray, why do I need to wash my face, hands, heads and feet? )
If you did actually watch the video you refer to he goes on to explain that verse in the video, what he terms as "salat sessions" (wherein the messenger reads Quran to the people) at prescribed times.
You seem to associate washing face/hands...... etc with prayer only, as if to imply one would never do that for anything else. Reflect.

Your translation has some issues
Id qumtum does not mean "prepare for prayer" Please check meaning of root
Faghsilu start with a "fa" which shows time delay. Your translation is missing this fa. So ayat is saying " when you establish salah then faghsilu your faces...." but traditionally washing is done before you start prayer and not after you stand for prayer.
These things have been discussed many times on this forum and brother Waqas has posted his well researched articles on his website http//mypercept.co.uk/articles/
Please read them and reflect. It might give you replies to your questions.

Wrong. "Fa" simply denotes a separation of clauses. "Thumma" means "then" or "thereafter."

Just saying something wrong means nothing unless supported by evidence. My understanding of "fa" is based on classic Arabic Lughats and usage in the Quran.
Your evidence please?

Thank you,
But does that mean there is no everyday "Salat" rituals for us? -
I see many wrong arguments based on individual verses. The " Aquimi salat" package start with the main starting point of "intention to do". This is where "Aquimi salat" starts then you wash...then you do Salat then...
Hence when you "intend to do salat" ,"Fa" wash....etc.
The time delay for me comes after the intention not after salat!!! Otherwise the other argument is "Why wash ...after?
My view.
GOD bless .
Peace. -
- It says "idha qumtum ilay al salat," not "aqeemu al salat"
- "Fa" acts as a comma in English.
-
Yes progressive it does say "Qumtum" because it is addressing a "plural/many". I was saying the act of "Aquimi salat" is a package.. I did not say that verse said "Quimi salat"?
GOD bless you.
Peace. -
peace Novice, all,
To my knowledge "fa" does not necessarily denote a "time delay".
http//corpus.quran.com/documentation/particlefa.jspBut I can see how one might think that depending on the context of usage. In 56 (based on the content) I do not see how it can mean do the things mentioned after salat is done. Can you find a translation for "salat" in 56 that would make sense if interpreting it like that?
-
Check 2314 and you will see that "fa" can not and never does mean "thereafter." It simply acts as a separation of clauses. I also recommend looking at Sam Gerrans' translation and his notes on "fa" and how he translated phrases with "fa" in them.
The "ilay" makes this phrasing different. And I assume "qumtum" is a different verb form from "aqeemu." I do not see the washing plus reading quran as a "package" - the phrasing in 56 makes it seem like washing is simply a prerequisite.
-
Dear Armom,
Salaam 'Alaikum everyone, )
I have a question on Salat prayer.I've read few articles as well as watched Rashad Khalifa's Salat video.
All of them says we got salat ritual from Abraham. But none of them really explained from where did we got the prayer of Abraham.
In Rashad Khalifa's prayer video, he almost prays like sunnis but just doesn't mentioned the name of Prophet Muhammad. My question is, where is the salat of Abraham mentioned? How do we know that how Abraham prayed?
I agree with you...Claiming there is a "Salat of Ibrahim" and then just doing what the others and claiming it has been "inherited" is absolutely no evidence to go by.
Having said that, the Salat that can be constructed using the verses of the Quran resembles closely (though not fully) the Salat that the Sunnis/Shia carry out.
- Is done after ablution (56)
- With a clear state of mind (443)
- In a standing position (2239)
- Where the Quran is recited (177
- In a clear audible voice (17110)
- Followed by Kneeling and Prostrating (243, 4102)
- Comprising of 2 units (4102)
- Carried out at 2 times at the edges of the day (11114, 177
- And 1 time at the day of gathering (629, 11114)
- Ending with specific words (17111)
I hope I have been able to help...
Regards,
Layth
