How Many Wives, can You have according to Quran?
-
Salaam Ahmed,
you wroteif any woman wants to marry more than one, go for it (I reckon it will be a hard task to find husbands that allow to share their wives, but good luck any way)
Yeah right but poor women must share their husband!? shock
One partner at a time is the way we should go then no jelousy will occur because that can kill the relationship.

Salam
I want to know, what if the first wife objects to her husband marrying again?
Peace
The above should fall under "not being fair between the wives", I believe if he ignored her rejection "then he already started the process by not being fair", consequently she is entitled to seek divorce under Islamic laws if he insist to marry
if you remember the verse 43 "If you fear not to be just between the women then marry one"
now under the circumstance you described, if the husband ignored his first wife plea not to marry, then we are dealing with a man who is not even fearing to be unjust rather he delibertly and intensionaly seeking unjust, and this should entitle the first wife to seek divorce
And finally I believe the second, third and fourth wives MUST have children to care for"no father is there to support them and their struggling mother" and if this is not the case, then the first wife should have another good and lawful reason to seek divorce
Allah knows best

Salam sister
Yeah right but poor women must share their husband!? shock
I never suggested that, but you are right, and I beleive the unfairness, flaw, and deception in the Islamic world are causing this to happen unfortuantlly
One partner at a time is the way we should go then no jelousy will occur because that can kill the relationship.
Peace Sis Majidah
That's the way sister, sounds very reasonable to me and surely is the most compatible understanding with the Quran "If you fear not to be just with women, then marry one", "you will not be able to be fair with women even if it was your strongest desire to be fair"
Conclusion
True and sincere Muslims men "100% True submitters to Allah laws" should marry only one according to the clear Arabic Quran

Salaam Br Ahmed,
Yes, I agree
Sounds very true and intelligent for a believer in Allah and his scripture.

Hi all,
Polygamy is just one other issue that men of today abuse, to satisfy Lust.
Its sad, God's just ways are so abused by people claiming to be His believers. ( -

As a matter of fact, women excel men in many areas of gender superiority, don't you think?

Peace!Certainly. Although polyandry, as with polygamy, as rare as it is, does exists in some parts of the world, my intent was poised towards extra-marital and pre-marital affairs by both genders.
Speaking of women excelling men in certain trades, prostitution is one.

Speaking of women excelling men in certain trades, prostitution is one.Well, am not very aware of 'polyandry' in today's society, except propably among some tribals. Though such customs did exsist earlier among the idolators and the others, in a larger magnitude.
When natural animal instincts of man takes precedence over his sense/values/morals, there will be all kind of sexual affairs(due to lust),violence(due to hatred,arrogance).........etc.
I do accept extra-marital and pre-marital affiars(both men and women being responsible for it) driven by lust, pressure or whatever the reason, are very common in todays society. But then, they dont mix the concept with religion, Do they?
Do they claim that christianity allows and promotes 'pre-marital affairs' or 'extra-marital affairs' like our muslim guys(in the polygamy issue)do? They would propably reply 'yeah, God wont like this but big deal?'
Our men(the muslim ones) claim God permits Polygamy with out any conditions and treat women like sluts. Now how demeaning is that, to say they r following God's directions while doing horrid stuff? And as for prostitution, its one profession which survives only becoz men want it to. Think about it. If all men decide that they wouldnt ever want a prostitute, would there be prostitution? Again prostitution exsists mainly becoz of the gender inequality and not gender superiority by women.
I would say feminism would be a demand of equality of genders(where and when, women are dominated/discriminated by men) rather than gender superiority. Men and women are different and cant be compared in each and every aspect. But at the same time, woman/men are as human as the other sex.
Women arent demanding superiority over men. Just equality. When there exsists no chauvinism, there wont be any need for feminism.

Hello peacefulmuslim,
Well, am not very aware of 'polyandry' in today's society, except propably among some tribals. Though such customs did exsist earlier among the idolators and the others, in a larger magnitude.
As mentioned earlier, polyandry does exist in today?s society, whether tribal or not, though not relevantly exposed, widespread and talked about. If you are not much aware, then I would recommend Google search for the word ?polyandry? and find out for yourself.
When natural animal instincts of man takes precedence over his sense/values/morals, there will all kind of sexual affairs(due to lust),violence(due to hatred,arrogance).........etc.
There are ethical and rightful ways to control ones animal instincts and inexcusable behavioral patterns to inhibit sexual affairs and violence are unprecedented/abnormal.
I do accept extra-marital and pre-marital affiars driven by lust, pressure or whatever the reason, are very common in todays society. But then, they dont mix the concept with religion, Do they?
I don?t believe in ?religious dogmatic doctrines?, thus mixing up concepts don?t apply to me. Just because it?s common in today?s society doesn?t make it right. Polygamy is accepted in middle-eastern and other Muslim countries as common in society. Prostitution, lesbianism, gayism and other licentious behaviour are also common in society throughout the world. Why feel disgusted towards polygamy when you can accept extra-marital/pre-marital affairs? Given the choice between the two and looking at it realistically, polygamy would be considered a far better choice over the other, simply because the consequences of the latter are found to be devastating and sometimes deadly.
Do they claim that christianity allows and promotes 'pre-marital affairs' or 'extra-marital affairs' like our muslim guys(in the polygamy issue)do? They would propably reply 'yeah, God wont like this but big deal?'
There are a small percentage of polygamists in the entire Muslim World compared to monogamous relations within the same jurisdiction, most of whom you?ll find in some of the middle-eastern countries. Pre-marital and extra-marital affairs are quite prevalent and common in western (?Christian?) and non-Muslim societies. The demographics of divorces, HIV?s, violence, lusts/lewdness, prostitutions, lesbianism/gayism, child molestations/pornography, etc., are quite inherent and widespread as clearly witnessed in such societies more so than Muslim societies/countries.
Our men(the muslim ones) claim God permits Polygamy with out any conditions and treat women like sluts. Now how demeaning is that, to say they r following God's directions while doing horrid stuff?
FYI, polygamy doesn?t make women sluts, in which case, all are married to one man. Prostitution, nymphomaniacs and extra-marital encounters are some of the terms defining a slut.
And as for prostitution, its one profession which survives only becoz men want it to. Think about it. If all men decide that they wouldnt ever want a prostitute, would there be prostitution? Again prostitution exsists mainly becoz of the gender inequality and not gender superiority by women.
Hmmm? ?only becoz men want it to???? That?s baloney. I believe the women is blamed for selling their bodies and provoking men (both single and married) out of sheer lust for financial greed by advocating sex drives and pornography, thereby not only destroying themselves by disobedience and health issues, but soliciting menace on single men, married lives and destroying families and setting bad examples for other girls and men of chance who support and join in. Such women are a disgrace to society. What a profession??? Even men have gotten involved in benefiting such trades to become pimps for their selfish drives, not to mention brothels, hotel rooms and their own private homes.
I would say feminism would be a demand of equality of genders(where and when, women are dominated/discriminated by men) rather than gender superiority. Men and women are different and cant be compared in each and every aspect. But at the same time, woman/men are as human as the other sex.
If men and women are different and can?t be compared in each and every aspect, then there exists gender superiority, an imbalance or inequality. Female whores by far outweigh gigolos, in number and trade, hence the gender superiority/inequality.

You and other friends inspired by westeren propoganda think that "to marry more than one is harsh to women" and at the same time you want to be the "best" follower and interpreter of Quran.
But doing so you all forget the Verses regarding slaves and captives.
You have ignored the core point in my previous posts.Quran advises us to marry one but never makes a restriction on the number (upper limit 4).
Many of the Prophet's companions married more than one, Why?Let me try to explain it by an example
I think I can be fair between more than one woman, therfore according to your interpretation of Quran I can marry more than one; simple any one can,
and the question is upto how many???I think I could not make my question simpler than this?
Ahmed and others waiting for your replies, but Dear Ahmed don't behave like a teenager; try to understand the question and than answer it with proper backing.

first of all, I donlt really care what the west says, you see the truth does not change from east to west, the Quran is clear arabic and it associted marrying more than one wife with the orphans, while I agree the verses didn't say explicitly marry the mothers of those orphans, it is the most logical understanidng bearing in mind that the Quran is too high for caring for the orphnas
but assuming the verse suggest marrying any other women with or without orphans, the same verse says marry only one if you fear not to be fair then later on on another verse it says we can't be fair
what clearer message can it be to marry only one? we will see later that Allah testified that we can't be fair and just between women
and at the same time you want to be the "best" follower and interpreter of Quran.
Now this is funny, thanks for the laugh bro, however I will accept myself trying to be one of the best followers to the Quran but not one of the best interpeters, I just do my best and I was blessed to have a native arabic tongue
But doing so you all forget the Verses regarding slaves and captives.
You have ignored the core point in my previous posts.all the verses about slavery was to free them, and never was to have sex with them
and I don't consider Ma malakato Aymanokum slaves
Quran advises us to marry one but never makes a restriction on the number (upper limit 4).
Many of the Prophet's companions married more than one, Why?first of all the prophets are different and were dealt differntly by God, so please don't compare us with them

wrong bro, the Quran cleary said the following
"Ye are never able to be fair and just as between women, even if it is your ardent desire...... "
(129)
Ahmed and others waiting for your replies, but Dear Ahmed don't behave like a teenager; try to understand the question and than answer it with proper backing.
ok, did I acted like a teen this time?
now what is the question pleaase?
to marry one
or to marry more
my undersatnding according to 43 in conjunction with 4129 that men should marry only one, if they care less about not being just between women then the other wives must have children to care for and his desire to marry her is to care for the children nopt to sleep with her
if it is a license for men to sleep with other women legally then the whole thing does not make any sense indeed
peace bro

"Never be able to be fair"
"If you fear not to be fair and just"Just keep on changing and twisting the words as per own satisfaction is no good Idea.
Which one is the correct one; choose, before I comment. At the time of Quran there were slaves, women slaves were allowed and even allowed in Quran that is fact which cannot be changed. MAy be hard for many to swallow as we live in present world dominated by westren ideas.
To west Prophet was a Pedophile, but if we dig deeper we come to know that a century ago most of the european were Pedophiles.
Please read my debate at www.apostatesofislam.com under title "Was Muhammad a Pedophile?"Quran did not restricted any number to marriages any how advised it is better to marry one along with having sexual realtions with slaves/captives/temporary marriages/ etc.
To marry one is against Human nature, right or wrong is another debate.first of all the prophets are different and were dealt differntly by God, so please don't compare us with them
Prophet is example for Human kind and is a Human; Dealt diffrently in divine sense, Yes, but the issues realting everyday life, No.
Moreover I am talking about his companions such as his friends.if they care less about not being just between women then the other wives must have children to care for and his desire to marry her is to care for the children nopt to sleep with her
Again you are talking against Human nature, why one should MARRY just to take care of children that can be done without MARRYING too. Offcourse the need for sleeping with her is equally important.

Hi Raj-ah,
A muslim may marry 3 additional women(must be widows) at a time, ONLY when the all of the following are obeyed.*when the widows with orphans is incapable of providing , and taking care(of herself and her children) on her own. and is in desperate need of safety and security, and when marriage is the ONLY final resort, with which the man(who wishes to help) can provide for, protect and help them.
*And he is permitted to go ahead, under the above conditions, ONLY if he is capable of being just and impartial among all his wives and capable of providing for all his wives and children, financially and emotionally adequately, in a just and impartial manner.*The above does not mean women(widows) are incapable of providing for themselves and being secure on their own. They are very much capable of that.
But if a woman is not able to, and needs/requires help and wishes a man to help her and if a man(who wishes to help) cant provide the help required adequately, without marriage, ONLY then, can he marry the woman in question.
*And the man can marry ONLY after obtaining consensus from his exsisting wife. So, in the above, there are too many clauses and conditions, which pretty much rule out 'permisibility of polygamy' in today's world.
Well, Since conditions today are different, most of the clauses and conditions wont be met
such as-In Today'S world
*Women can be financially independent
*Women can be socially independent
*Woman is considered in equality and hence wont be deprived.
*There are organisations and other sources to help desperate women
*Women do not outnumber men and hence widows can very well marry single men if they so wish.
*And in today's society (laws), marriage cant be the only resort to help a desperate women adequately. They can be absolutely helped with out having to marry.
*And moreover, Man cant be just and impartial to 2 or more wives. And no woman would wish to share her husband. So, considering all of the above, most of the clauses dont get met, and hence Polygamy wont be permissible in today's world.

"If you fear not to be fair and just"wrong, they are not my translations, and I agree that they are perfect translation, I speak arabic fluently, do you?
Just keep on changing and twisting the words as per own satisfaction is no good Idea.
Haha, to my satisfaction?, thanks for the laugh, my interpetation is against my satisfaction, I would love to even marry more than 4 but you know I can't help it as Allah statewd to marry only ONE
Which one is the correct one; choose, before I comment.
I donlt understand what you mean?, are you testing me or somethin?
At the time of Quran there were slaves, women slaves were allowed and even allowed in Quran that is fact which cannot be changed. MAy be hard for many to swallow as we live in present world dominated by westren ideas.
yep and the Quran came to free those slaves, not to abuse them
To west Prophet was a Pedophile, but if we dig deeper we come to know that a century ago most of the european were Pedophiles.
I agree that a century ago most european were paedophile, but Mohammad never been
Please read my debate at www.apostatesofislam.com under title "Was Muhammad a Pedophile?"
sure will try to read it, but I agree that this great man never been, I defend against this accusation as well
Quran did not restricted any number to marriages any how advised it is better to marry one along with having sexual realtions with slaves/captives/temporary marriages/ etc.
To marry one is against Human nature, right or wrong is another debate.mate I don't give a fluke about slaves, captices or similar, I'm talking year 2005
to marry one isounds fair to me, and to marry more does not sound fair to me despite I'd love to marry ten if I can afford it
first of all the prophets are different and were dealt differntly by God, so please don't compare us with them
Prophet is example for Human kind and is a Human; Dealt diffrently in divine sense, Yes, but the issues realting everyday life, No.
Moreover I am talking about his companions such as his friends.yes they are an example but only in what relates to Allah and His deen, not an example in theor personal lives which I will classify as Idol Worshipping, now marriages with the prophets are differnt to the rest of human marriages, for example the prophet wives can't marry after him, also Solyman married 700 and not 11 or 9
if they care less about not being just between women then the other wives must have children to care for and his desire to marry her is to care for the children nopt to sleep with her
Again you are talking against Human nature, why one should MARRY just to take care of children that can be done without MARRYING too. Offcourse the need for sleeping with her is equally important.
Because he can have sexual joy with his first wife, they all the same in sex aren't they?
or you reckon the motive to marry more than one should be sexual?

Do all the Middle East countries allow Muslims to marry up to 4 wives?
Yeah, they do. And muslims living in certain other countries who have their own sharia(islamic law) also get permitted by the law.
But this exsists only becoz these muslims dont use their brains to understand why Allah has said something. They have their blind interpretations of the Quran. -
