I don?t have the time nor the patience to through all that.

Is their real wisdom behind homosexuality being prohibited in the Quran? and I don?t mean ad hominem attacks, petty excuses, erroneous theories, half-baked arguments etc. I mean TRUE WISDOM behind the prohibition?

What is the punishment in the Quran for homosexuality?

    God Bless
    peace

      Peace "angel",
Ive discussed this extensively at http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=13607.0
Lemme just mention the main points here. First of all the Quran has only condemned MALE hs in the Quran and not lesbianism. But in case of male hs it is important to distinguish between a homosexual who KNOWS that hes doing can be very harmful to society in the long run and one who is ignorant or doesnt hav any knowledge thereof. Remember a crime is defined by an act which one commits KNOWING it's harmful. So for all those male hs who commit such activities not knowing whether it causes harm or not or innocent and need enlightenment from those who know and in tht case it is their responsibility to do their best to inform them. As for those who know obviously if you know something causes harm and yet you do it, then you are by definition a criminal and i SUSPECT that the male hs ELITE whos well educated is well aware of the harms it can cause. The harm is that male hs indulge in anal sex which is the cause of acquiring a lot of harmful germs and/or viral diseases. Since a male still has dominantly male hormones there is a high probability that one of the two will at some time in the future revert to 1) being straight or worse 2) being BIsexual. In any case he most likely wont inform his future female partner of his past activites for obvious reasons and pass on all the acquired diseases to her and her possible developing baby. So by condemning male hs GOD is actually protecting the women and it makes me mad and really sad when i see that it is they who are dfending the male hs ACTIVITY, remember im not talking abt mere hs thoughts here which are not condemned anywhere. As to the punishment GOD left it upto the society to decide but states in one verse tht they are to be punished
The TWO MEN(alaZAAN) who indulge in it(faahisha as from the context of 415) shall be punished. If they repent and reform, you shall leave them alone. GOD is Redeemer, Most Merciful.
      GOD Bless!

OK, I can understand jonny_k's explanation to protect women from disease, but does it matter if the guy dosent spread disease to women? Its just a sexual preference.

I thought the probability of spreading an STD heterosexually was the same Homosexually.

not in the flawed mind of a secterian. Its not the person its wrong with, its the logic thats skewed to hell and beyond. As for the thread

JK- And who said tht hertero sex without a legal contract which obligates both partners to take rsponsibility is allowed or approved off by any means? Dont forget tht the Quran even specifies a punishment of 100 lashes in public if such is proven. GOD Bless!

                    I didn?t know that. ;D

But it?s quite sexist innit? P

As for anal sex, MANY heterosexual couples indulge in it too, if Allah wanted to prohibit anal sex why didn?t he say so?

And there are many gay men that don?t have sex.

Brother Noah I can?t see the image you have posted, I?m just left with a blank box.

                          it's still wrong.
because there are 2 of a kind.
if it was ok God would've made only men or only women.

God created men and women to procreate. But in countries where over population is a problem homosexuality would be needed for population control; most people don?t want to spend their life single. Homosexuals can?t have children (unless they adopt) so it can solve a lot problems.

not only to procreate. what about men and women who can't have children, they still want to be together because they love one another.

as for over-population, homosexuality is not a solution. if people don't have money to buy food or to build homes, i blame their government, because those greedy politicians rather take money themselves instead of giving it to people who need it to survive, but that's for another topic.

I've been checking, and throughout all of the stories of Lot, I cannot find a direct prohibition of homosexuality. It is one amongst many things that the people of Lot were destroyed for, but the entire down was corrupt and evil, they committed highway robbery, they chose vice over virtue at every opportunity. This is why they were destroyed, not simply because there were homosexual acts being committed. An entire town cannot be made up of homosexuals for more than a single generation as there would be no reproduction. So these were a people who were not always homosexual, but rather they were a people who enjoyed raping strange men from out of town. They held in disgust all that was pure.

Sure Lots mention of choosing men over women occurs more times in the Quran, but there is still not the wording of a prohibition. There is not a single "You shall not" "Do not" or even in the case of alcohol "It would be wiser if".

Personally I see homosexuality the same way Angel sees it. It's a natural means of population control. God knows that we are approaching the limit of what our planet can provide for and god would not break his promise to have built a planet that can provide for us until the final day. So he creates a population within the people who will not procreate. This gives us the extra benefit of being able to have them take in orphans, since they will not be having children of their own and thus caring for children who were not able to be cared for by their own parents. God is knowing and wise and does not make mistakes.

that's true, but could they give the baby up for adoption?

you don't know that, you weren't there, it doesn't say that anywhere. but that is one of the reasons they were killed.

there is no prohibition for drugs either but that doesn't mean you should start shooting up heroin, you know. do you really need God to tell you word for word about every little detail. So we know that this town that existed long enough to become a known city of the time. Strange men came to town, the men of the people of Lot wanted them. Lot tells us why they wanted them. From this I can incur that these are a people who procreate with women but enjoy homosexually raping men from out of town. I wasn't there, but God gives a good deal many clues.

there is no prohibition for drugs either but that doesn't mean you should start shooting up heroin, you know. do you really need God to tell you word for word about every little detail. I don't need god to tell me what temperature to cook my steak and for how long in order to eat. But these things are unimportant. God tells me he provided for my care and I can take it from there. For major items, though, God has already explained to us items that should or should not be done. Idol worship, eating of pork, etc.. and I figure homosexuality would be one of these major items. "You should not take as mates those who are of your own sex" or similar. God himself has said that he does not run short of words.

It is ok for you to feel that homosexuality is improper, just as a vegan is permitted to believe that the eating of meat is cruel to animals. Thusly, just as a vegan claiming that eating meat is wrong from a religious standpoint would be very wrong, for you claim that homosexuality is morally wrong from a religious standpoint would be considered shirk, as nowhere does God in his own holy book tell us so. You are doing exactly as the writers of hadith did in the ancient past, you are confusing your personal morals with what God has very clearly written in his book.

BOTH male AND female homosexuality are mentioned in the Quran

{And those women who commit lewdness, you shall bring four witnesses over them from amongst you; if they bear witness, then you shall restrict them in the homes until death terminates their lives, or God makes for them a way out.
                                        And the two men who commit it from amongst you, then you shall punish them. If they repent and amend, then leave them alone. God is Redeemer, Merciful.}

Verse 415, is talking about the WOMEN who commit lewdness (fahisha), and that their punishment is to be locked up in their homes, and never to be let out.

Verse 416 , is talkin about the two men who do it.

The ignorant sectarians and their mullahs believe that 415 was abrogated by the verses of lashing. This is not true. The "Fahisha" spoken of in verse 415 and 416 is homosexuality, and NOT fornication or adultery.

there is no prohibition for drugs either but that doesn't mean you should start shooting up heroin, you know.

The word "khamr" includes drugs, and is not limited to alcohol. The meaning of the word "khamr" ( root &#1585 is a "cover" or "veil". So, any substance which casues the mind to be "veiled" or "covered" is called "kahmr", wether it is alcohol, hashish, cocaine, or whatever....

Of course the Quran doesn't say that "KHAMR" is forbidden, because the tone of the verse is one of advice and not strict prohibition.

                                          Peace

I agree with Pazazu about the word khamar, that it refers to things that cover or inhibit the mind's normal functions. This includes drugs (of which alcohol is).
